from what ive read the F-35 is a much more advanced fighter, it uses some of the F-22s systems and sensors but they are upgraded, obviously its a much much newer machine and they do look very alike, cant wait for us to get these, along with the Typhoon we will once again have 2 of the finest fighters in the world and the RN will be back with what she started all them years ago, a real cats and trap carrier and carrier borne aircraft that will kick arse!!!
The avionics might be newer compared to the first run of F-22s, but the F-22 is the premier fighter of the USAF. Whatever avionoics the JSF might have, the F-22s are going to be at least as good, and likely more specialized for air to air. After all this is the premier front-line fighter.
As for airframe, the F-22 is going to be better overall. The JSF is a compromise base design, and while it has stealth, it cannot be from all aspects to the extent the F-22 is.
