On some lakes, the weeds will stay greener than on others. Alot depends on snow cover. We use shiners because I think they give off more of a flash during light hours plus their body size probably gives off more vibration than a slimmer minnow. Most of our fishing is off of weeds not rocks but that also depends on the lake. Thanks for checking out our video. More to come
couple more questions.... are you fishing early ice or mid ice and does the night bite for walleyes change as winter goes on in terms of depth and structure? and.. do you find the walleye fishing better on lakes that don't get speared? i know there are many lakes in vilas and some don't get speared which are the secret lakes for walleyes. butternut lake, price co (1006 acres) gets speared and i notice the effect (576 this year) and on another lake doesn't and has a very good walleye fishery. thx
thanks for the feedback. This video was shot on one of the more recognizable lakes in Vilas county in late December/early january. On this lake we were fishing green weed structure relatively shallow. On this particular evening, we shot the video as it was getting dark and we than fished well into the night. This lake is clear so that is another reason why we tend to fish it into the evening hours or early in the morning.
@wisconsinanglingad how long do the weeds stay green because i know they need sunlight to stay that way. and what weeds are you fishing? i would also like to know your reason for using shiners. the only reasons i can think of is your not just going for walleyes but pike and muskie as well and/or the water is dark which it would be i guess if it is dark? real early winter (early to mid december) do you like to fish off the rocks before the forage gets cleaned up? thanks a bunch
great job! i'm 16 and love fishing up north in northern price county and on the turtle flambeau flowage but have heard great things about vilas county. for reference to my lakes... what is the lakes visibilty, how deep and what structure are you fishing? do you find the night bite more effective on lakes that are clear? i saw this on john gillespie when they fished what i thought was trout lake this year on the ice when in vilas county where they caught whitefish and lake trout by accident.
Cool
