Great info I usually do all my own maintenance on my equipment. I guess that is the old Army PMCS days that kick in. I agree that the people who design this stuff need to get their head screwed on right to make it easier to work on and repair. A lot of stuff these days require specialised tools to work on as well you cant just tear into an engine with your Dad's tool set any more like in the good old days. Just try to replace an altenator on a car these days compared to on older vehicles and see
Great vid! Helped me fr sure. A neighbor down the road from our cabin in Indiana gave me a Craftsman Riding Lawnmower. The engine was replaced with a newer 12hp Briggs & Stratton. He was never able to keep it running. I believe the parts that control the choke and idle are missing but I don't know enough myself to figure it out and have not been able to find the information I am looking for. Any chance for some help if I do a video response showing what my problem is?
I just yanked the carbs off of a motorcycle I've had in storage for 3 years now and tossed the parts into a pot of boiling water for a few minutes. Blew everything dry, reassembled and it started right up. I'm thinking I'm going to go the boiling water route from now on.
YP, thanks for taking the time to make videos like this. My dad didn't get into the fixit type stuff and I never really had any friend who were into engines, but you make a simple repair like that seem reasonable and I might give it a try some time. Thanks again...
no thats not a junky table its a self planned security device. If somebody brakes in to take something all they will see is a mountain of stuff and totally get confused.Thats the way a real man rolls.I keep my as junky as I can.
@Yankeeprepper OK I understand why you have taken off many of your older vids, Fair enough. One video I was looking for that you may consider re posting was the one on home security systems. Thanks.
Great repair job on the snow blower! Earlier this year before hurricane season began I decided to test run my Troy-Bilt 5550watt portable generator after it was sitting in the garage un-used all winter. It was running so rough it occasionally shut down. After spending over an hour on the phone with local repair shops and getting phone estimates over $300 for repair, I watched a you tube video on carb repair and did the job in about 20 minutes. It's runs better now than when it was new.
@yhird That is prepping brother. 300 hundred more dollars in your pocket for your family and A NEW SKILL for the rest of your life. Welcome to the DIY club, Membership is few and far in between.
Looks just like my hubby's garage. lol. Who has time to make their work benches nice and pretty and organized, when you always have projects to work on?!
Your bit about hoe engeners dont think about the mechanic and bolts cracked me up. I am a mechaniic. I keep an automated food packaging companies machines running and sometimes I get so mad because if the people that desigened the machinry had to work on it they would relalize how are life is. Thank you. And when we have to do it its in the heat of the moment with people yelling at you. When is this going to be running. LOL
If chaos works for you, then go for it. It's your MO, after all.
Wish I knew more about mechanical things. I always look at inner workings of devices and wonder how in the heck anyone ever invented it in the first place. Much respect for all the mechanics/engineers out there. I'm more of an artist. I know what colors match, etc XD
Another great vid Yankee. By the way, your sound effects have now become the switch that converts my dog from "cute puppy" to "war faced Grizzer' bear"! LMAO! Keep em' coming.
Awesome video and perfect timing.. I have a similar snowblower and it's been hunting.. Sound effects were pretty accurate.. thanks for the video very helpful.
Awesome video Yankee, very well done and informative to boot.... I thank you for finally giving me understanding of why my workbench is always so messy and i have about five or six projects going at once... "I MUST have a complicated mind" I informed my wife of this and she rolled her eyes and said that she could have told me my mind was complicated years ago.... Thinking about her comment, I am wondering if that was a compliment or not??
My father had a 1970s Toro that lasted up until about 4 years ago, over 30 New England winters, now that's quality. Good video to download for reference. Thanks YP.
I HATE those freaking engineers that put the bolts behind everything, making removal or re-assembly damn near impossible! I had to do this same thing (rebuild carburator) of my dad's old weedeater last summer and went about it about the same way. His however, had a broken (plastic) fuel intake assembly and finding that part took the longest time. Its good to figure out how to do things for yourself and become more self-suficient!
Awesome video! btw I'm studying to become a mechanical engineer, and yes I am insane, so are my peers, and also my professors . . . its fun, why wouldn't you want to join in?
Lol, I just got almost the same snowthower (S200) from a friend that didn't want it any more. I did have to order a carb rebuild kit for it though. The blader in the float was ripped. So for the cost of the rebuild kit $11.99 I got an extra snowthower. Great video YP.
lmao with the middle finger....I have one finger saluted many float needle valves.
Do you keep that mayo jar hermeticly sealed on your front porch ?
It's a throw away society, if you just start learning to fix stuff, it gets as easy as changing a light bulb.
One thing that I have done for years is that all our small gas engines run with stabilized fuel year round, but it sounds like that blower got put away many a year ago and even stabilized fuel would not have help that.
That's how it gets done! Yet another reason why you and your family will never starve or go without! I'm actually about to head out to the garage to add the acid to my old lady's new motorcycle battery because she learned that engines need to be started and ran more than once a quarter! Happy New Year bro!
@YP I feel that I must correct you about Engineers, I Have it on good authority that many are an alien species that do not have jointed fingers like the rest of us, but instead have infinitely flexible tentacles that can assume any shape or enter any space with ease.
I do believe, however, that those Human Engineers, should be SENTENCED to work on their own creations with the average Shade tree mechanics tool box for 5-10 years, depending on how bad they design.
"A more complicated mind like mine" could be construed as cockiness, but I can tell YP has taken the path of acknowledging what everyone should grasp and that is positive reinforcement. If you think you're too stupid to learn how to rebuild a carburetor, well then, you will remain stupid. YP has realized the potential of his mind and does not limit himself by any negative self thoughts or statements. Trained Minds are Great Minds and Trained Minds are Limitless!
@Joe55darter Well....some people did and will take that as cockiness. And they got their panties up in a bunch because I am sure their work benches are neatly organized...BUT...I was really just making fun of myself. I am the classic champion of under achievers, LOL!. When I had an desk job back in the late 90's my boss use to walk in to my office and ask: "Where's the pin?" and I would say; "what pin?" and he would say: "the pin to the grenade that went off in here!"
@Yankeeprepper Negative on the under achiever! I fully disagree! You may not have a Dr at the front or a PhD at the rear, but you are wise beyond your years.
i can't count how many times as a tech i've wanted to strangle an engineer for the way they designed certain areas in a car or truck...audi for example...some models need to have the front clip taken off to change an alternator !!! how retarded is that??
@yankeeprepper Wow, brother that was mighty nice of you to fix up that snow blower for me to use on my patio and walkway:) Your all right, I don't care what the BP guy says about you, lol. Good stuff man, I rebuild things all the time, most places look at you like your nuts now days when you ask for a rebuild kit for something because nobody ever does it anymore. Just goes to show how lazy many folks have become, very sad.I have a vacuum that I got on CL that I have been using for 3 years.
great video. The very first thing I always do is check for spark on non working engines. Sometimes its as simple as changing a sparkplug. Got a free chainsaw that just needed a sparkplug.
If you have access to a large ultrasonic cleaner it is a good alternative to soaking and brushing particularly if you need to get things running as quickly as possible. I use warm water and a couple of teaspoons of Lemishine which you can get at the grocery store in the dish washing supply area and a few drops of liquid dish detergent. It typically takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on how dirty it is.
Great video! I've saved up my cash and just paid for a course in Small Engine Mechanics at my local community college cash. Next I want to take the local private career college for welding but I want to take night courses and learn after work and pay for it cash. I hate how people keep throwing away perfectly good stuff! I do a similar thing with hand tools and resell them but I'd like to do it with machines!
It will be funny when you walk by the neighbor that gave you that snow blower in your blowing snow all over the place in ill probly offer you money to buy it back
I am glad there was no fire when the you had explosion in your garage. Looks like a series of cleverly constructed safety hazards. I guess the challenge of walking through the area keeps you on your toes.
Seriously - good vid with a very clear message - learn how to take care of your stuff and your family.
LMAO....even though i know it was aggravating you at the time... i loved the... those engineers are insane and they want to drive you insane as well... i have often thought that myself. Thanks for the informative vid...and the laugh.
Its amazing what people will throw away these days.
My Brother over in Canada picked up a Tapout heavy punch bag that goes for several hundered dollars for free the other day, never been punched.
I picked up several hundred meters of 3x8 timber (old scaffold planks) last week, just sat on the side of the road, dumped for what ever reason. Now have enough firewood to last me several years.
For me it isn't about saving money (which i do), i just cannot bare to see good stuff wasted.
Good Carb vid YP, thats going to help alot of people. I once rebuilt a mower and the kids were like "Daddy is the best" the mrs was impressed and it was rosses. I went off to mow the lawns and the piston blew down the field about 300 yards. I forgot to put the oil in the engine LOL. "idiot". Im a friggin diesel engineer LOL. arhh never mind.
We just used minineral spirits and compressed air but we have a full on mechanics garage plus we typically used carb cleaner and compressed air threw every hole in the carb just aout to rebuild my Qruadrajet tomorrow.
other than the money you could make on Ebay or CL...being able to repair small motors in shtf would be a huge advantage. Today it's a working snow blower...but it could be used to power a generator, water pump or for some means of personal transportation. Also in a barter type economy skills like this could be potential big earners. Overall a great knowledge/skill to have.
Hey, I have one of those. I converted it into a lawn de-thatcher..... AMAZING How green my lawn is. Back to point. If you have testicles you should NOT need to watch this vid. lest ya in california or new york
I recently subbed and I've been reading the comments and responses and to be honest i really enjoy your no nonsense basic common sense style, I know how to shoot so another AR/AK debate doesn't help me (.308 thank you) but good DIY knowledge when they are NO mechanics, plumbers, tree cutters round or affordable services is extremely useful especially your canning and preserving videos. I do believe you are a man truly blessed, keep up the good work you do.
When I retire, I’m loading mine on a trailer and headed south. The first town I stop in and they ask “What the &@#%$ is that ?” Is the town I’m buying my retirement home in…… :) Great video... thanks for posting
@houndsman03 I moved to California 15 years ago...Not that California is the best state as far as politics go, I have not had any snow to clear. I am from the Northeast.
Great vid and highly useful. To @kdavel's point, watching obxsolwind's videos on home power reminded me of your generator and solar vids. They were extremely informative and I wish you at least put those back up or make new ones as this is a time when that type of knowledge is sorely needed. Sorry the pretenders and jerks have left a bad taste in your mouth. The rest of us will suffer for it. Thanks as always.
@rovertri I will give that, I miss prepping when it first started, to many total idiots now. The biggest mistake i ever made was the guns vids, it attracted way too many asshats, punks and kids. I am trying to cull this thing back down and it seems to be working. There are alot of good people that I have met on here and a enjoy talking with them. But the iditots are thick as mosquitoes.
Yup, those crazy engineers. Many have never even changed their own oil, yet they design the very cars we drive- makes life interesting for us mechanic folks. I usually clean my bench when it reaches critical mass, but everybody has a system. As long as the tools go back in the box when I'm done, everything else is fair game. I'm still laughing thinking of you power washing the inside of your truck. That really turned out well.
A sad fact is that manufacturers have been designing things made to be tossed, because people have shown they are willing to buy them. Buy only things that are made to last, and learn to work on your own things. One foolish thing the school system did was to stop teaching basic home economics. Those sort of things should be required basics for every kid.
@kdavel There is no way you can see my old vids. I am through showing vids like those. I am tired of the gun preppers, revolutionaries and pretenders. Most of them remind me of when I use to ride motorcycles.I would run into guys on bikes that thought it was a costume party. They would buy racing jackets and racing boots, which will never see a race track because the guy wearing them doesn't have the skill to race. Learn how to cook, repair and get to know your neighbors, thats prepping.
@Yankeeprepper Well, that just answerd my question. Damn, im glad i watched most of your videos several times! Yea man, i can see where your coming from. Thats a shame. I've enjoyed All of your vids, and will continue to. Take care
After thousands of dollars in therapy to find out why Im simple minded I found it on YT for free..LOL...ITS MY DARN ORGANISED WORK BENCH.. Im with you Brother. I cant stand to see things go to waste.
I cleaned the hell out of mine 2 years in a row and the governor sticks after running for 2 minutes and revs like it's going to blow. I turn it off, jiggle it and do it all over again. I probably should fix it not on the day I need it. ha. Nice video.
@ngpeters Just get a bunch of old parts, rust metal shavings, old nails, electrical outlets, a broken broom, old Ak mags that don't work, bent shells etc and throw them on top. And NEVER ever throw anything away. You might need that odd bolt off a 1967 impala or that brace runner of that swedish toboggon....
i got a reel mclain lawn mower for free the flywheel was rusted on it. 600 grit sand paper it was good to go. sold it for 100 dollars. maybe a hours labor
thanks bro. this helped me think. I have a few weed eaters. that meed some work.. I am going to do that now. Thanks for your time. Btw do not stop your vids I love thim. thanks and God Bless
When I was in high school, there were two programs: one for the "dummies" and one for us college-bound folk. The "dummies" learned about cooking, wood working and car repairs . I learned about algebra. I've nearly ever used algebra after college, but I bet the other kids used their cooking, sewing and shop skills nearly every day. IMO, *every* kid should be taught personal finances, physical fitness, gardening/cooking, small engine repair, respect and survival skills. The rest is gravy.
@SpartanMonkee If I were King for a day...I would eliminate the Dept. of Education and Teachers unions. Public Schools would only teach READING WRITING,ARITHMETIC and US History. And focus heavy on Contitutional History and Law. (this would solve alot of Police violence) Martin Luther is important...but I would rather focus a month on the Founders. Once your credits are filled. Welding, engine, electrical, plumbing etc shop classes. Parents would also have to start PARENTING.
Fucking Amen dude!!!!! I wish they would actually start teaching in Public School. That and Parents really need to start parenting, i absolutely HATE seeing an 8 year old slapping his mom over a toy, and her not doing anything about it, and I really hate the 300 pound mom walking her 4 year old on a leash in Walmart as well. I may only be 22, but if i would've hit my mom, i wouldn't have been able to sit down for a month.
Great video. This is one of those skills that are getting lost in the world of replace instead of repair. I miss tearing down my 2 stroke and 4 stroke dirt bikes as a kid and young adult. Always fun getting into the guts of something.
I wish I could give you crap over your table, but I can't! I can't even get flippin floor space without a lot of irritating reorganizing. Your situation makes me feel better, though I know thats just wrong.
I've got 7 lawnmowers, keep finding them cheap, but I can't just toss them either. Going through my crap is often a voyage of discovery of forgotten crap I totally forgot about until I see it again.
This does help, I've been thinking of getting to some of that stuff
@tblbaby You know it's gone to far when it's gotten to the point that you have to enter your garage sideways whilst carefully walking through deer trails....and you need a map to get out.
I just had to do the same procedure, except on my motorcycle. Doing it myself saved me over $200 if I had it done by a mechanic or the dealership. That's $200 I can us for cooking lessons and flip-flop disposal.
@Yankeeprepper I sometimes wonder how some mechanics can sleep at night. Then again, I wonder how a man can sleep at night not knowing how to use basic tools.
@byrdjp That could be an hour long video. And I really don't care enough anymore I guess to even bother talking about it on YT. It's not really the mechanics fault. The US lifestyle is a huge bubble in itself. And that is going to be the real painfull part of this economic adjustment that we are just starting to go through. All these "bubbles" built on top of each other like a fragile deck of cards. The unions, Gov. employment driving etc driving it all. Big pay adjustments coming
12:11 equals tears falling down my face. Hahahah. Hit the nail on the head. Miss your vids brother, appreciate you putting this one out there. Practical, sensible, prepping. Its not always about the food storage!!!
Thats what my grandfather did when he retired from driving an 18 wheeler. He did a lot of small engine repair and would once in a while buy a car at the police auction and fix it up for sale. Sometimes he made more than his pension some months. I love working on small engine or old Chevy's.
I wouldn't mind having that one because like you I too have a bigger snowblower BUT for shit storms like the one we had a couple of days ago here in Maine that would of been the perfect model to use instead of using the BIG ONE. instead I hand shoveled my driveway, but would of like to have what you got.
ahh man, fun memories, i remember my pops teaching me to change plugs/wires and clean carbs, and wiring when i was 9. thanks to him i have an awesome paying auto technician job.
no video game ever got me a damn job, todays kids are soft as all get out
Hey man... that thing already runs. Just tint the windows and throw some of those fancy spinning wheels on it! Hope you and the family had a great Christmas!

Next I want to take the local private career college for welding but I want to take night courses and learn after work and pay for it cash. I hate how people keep throwing away perfectly good stuff! I do a similar thing with hand tools and resell them but I'd like to do it with machines!

I played video games with my son. LOL
I hate cussing, but mechanic work brings me to that point many a time.

It will be funny when you walk by the neighbor that gave you that snow blower in your blowing snow all over the place in ill probly offer you money to buy it back
nightprowlerch19 2 months ago

Thanks as always.
rovertri 2 months ago 2

CGaquamarine3 2 months ago
A sad fact is that manufacturers have been designing things made to be tossed, because people have shown they are willing to buy them. Buy only things that are made to last, and learn to work on your own things. One foolish thing the school system did was to stop teaching basic home economics. Those sort of things should be required basics for every kid.
logcabinlooms 2 months ago
@Yankeeprepper anyway I can view your old vids? I had a lot saved as favorites and miss watching them. Thanks.
kdavel 2 months ago 2
@kdavel There is no way you can see my old vids. I am through showing vids like those. I am tired of the gun preppers, revolutionaries and pretenders. Most of them remind me of when I use to ride motorcycles.I would run into guys on bikes that thought it was a costume party. They would buy racing jackets and racing boots, which will never see a race track because the guy wearing them doesn't have the skill to race. Learn how to cook, repair and get to know your neighbors, thats prepping.
Yankeeprepper 2 months ago 13
@Yankeeprepper Well, that just answerd my question. Damn, im glad i watched most of your videos several times! Yea man, i can see where your coming from. Thats a shame. I've enjoyed All of your vids, and will continue to. Take care

Yeah I really miss the old vids! The new ones are great as well and very informative.
I just miss the vids of the Lister diesel generator and the old beginning videos.
I had my account hacked and it got deleted, so i had to create a new one a few months back. But, I've been watching YP's vids since the beginning.
Too bad all the idiots ruined it for the rest of us.

SpartanMonkee 2 months ago 5
@SpartanMonkee If I were King for a day...I would eliminate the Dept. of Education and Teachers unions. Public Schools would only teach READING WRITING,ARITHMETIC and US History. And focus heavy on Contitutional History and Law. (this would solve alot of Police violence) Martin Luther is important...but I would rather focus a month on the Founders. Once your credits are filled. Welding, engine, electrical, plumbing etc shop classes. Parents would also have to start PARENTING.
Yankeeprepper 2 months ago 11

Fucking Amen dude!!!!! I wish they would actually start teaching in Public School. That and Parents really need to start parenting, i absolutely HATE seeing an 8 year old slapping his mom over a toy, and her not doing anything about it, and I really hate the 300 pound mom walking her 4 year old on a leash in Walmart as well. I may only be 22, but if i would've hit my mom, i wouldn't have been able to sit down for a month.

I just had to do the same procedure, except on my motorcycle. Doing it myself saved me over $200 if I had it done by a mechanic or the dealership. That's $200 I can us for cooking lessons and flip-flop disposal.
byrdjp 2 months ago
@byrdjp That is probably what this would have cost too. Generally a carb clean is around 200 bucks. What a rip huh?
Yankeeprepper 2 months ago
@Yankeeprepper I sometimes wonder how some mechanics can sleep at night. Then again, I wonder how a man can sleep at night not knowing how to use basic tools.
byrdjp 2 months ago
@byrdjp That could be an hour long video. And I really don't care enough anymore I guess to even bother talking about it on YT. It's not really the mechanics fault. The US lifestyle is a huge bubble in itself. And that is going to be the real painfull part of this economic adjustment that we are just starting to go through. All these "bubbles" built on top of each other like a fragile deck of cards. The unions, Gov. employment driving etc driving it all. Big pay adjustments coming
