As NRA instructors, I am very surprised that you don't use the NRA Safe Gun Handling rules, but rather, you use the somewhat antiquated "Cooper" safety rules.
The 3 NRA Fundamental Safe Gun Handling Rules
Rule 1: ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
Rule 2: ALWAYS keep your finger off of the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
Rule 3: ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until you are ready to use it.
In ASDI video How to Fire a Glock 18 I noticed several times through out the video Spencer Rands passes his left hand in front of the mussel of his loaded weapon. Is this safe? I don't think so even with your figure off the trigger it's still not a safe practice. I hope they don't train people in this manor or fashion.Under NO circumstance should any part of your body or anyone elses be in front of the business end of a weapon unless pointing at a threat.
Does anyone notice that in order to have a negligent discharge and shoot someone or something that you did not intend to shoot, you have to break TWO rules. If you break just one, you won't injure someone on accident. Safety in numbers.
Love your channels and all the videos you guys make. A gun safety instructor I learned from many years ago always taught the rules as the 4 basic safety rules. He described the 4th rule "identify the target" as know what your target is and what is beyond, and in the case of a self defence scenario to make sure you are shooting the bad guy and not the cop responding to your call for example. We would look up actual case history of accidental shootings and clearly see which rules were broken.
@amimefan333 Very true this is a very good rule and is often used as the 4th rule of firearms Safety. The only reason is does not included in this video is becuase rule #1 and #2 should encompas rule #4. Thanks so much and yes rule #4 Know your target and what is beyond it.
Great Video
