personally I recently found out about this actor, whose name I'd heard quite frequently years and years before, by purchasing the DVD of 'Bullit' - (very good movie, by the way) - then I told my mother about this actor, who unfortunately met an untimely death about thirty-one years ago, and she said that my late father also liked him - (finally something in common with him!)
Great tribute as well as choice of pics. I thought the pic of him giving the V sign from LeMans was a little bit amusing. Maybe he was giving it to the critics who slated the film ;D.
@Banner1979 I went on a SM website a few days ago and one of the links was "I don't like Steve McQueen" and I clicked on it just to see what it was and that pic from Le Mans came up across the page. lol :)
@SweepsProductions Oh, really? Cool. I know you said you didn't rate Lemans all that much but it had one or two blazing action sequences near the end and I wanted McQueen to win the race, but I think he came 2nd or 3rd.
@SweepsProductions he could have made many more films Mr Cool but he priced himself out of many. bridge to far being one if steve said no then it would goto redford or o'neil.but unfortunaly he did it so many times that redford got the parts after thats show biz. bloody good actor wish he could have made more.
@xwingclass McQueen turned down the role of The Driver which went to Ryan O'Neal (ironically also, in that movie, the gold clothed police detective was played by Felice Orlandi who played the ill-fated Renick in Bullitt). Steve also turned down the Roy Scheider part in Sorcerer because Bill Friedkin wouldn't cast Ali McGraw as well as a film about a mountain climber which sounded more along the lines of Eiger Sanction.
@Banner1979 about bridge to far Attenborough loved steve after 2 movies with him but he wanted just to much money.if we are in the what he missed i have also the day of the condor as well. i heard that steve was ment to play sundance as well in the burch cassidy and the sundance kid. what a great actor.
@xwingclass Well, Steve got to star alongside Paul Newman anyway in The Towering Inferno. There was rivalry between the two actors as to who would get top billing so to make them both happy, their names were put alongside each other on the posters with McQueen's slightly above Newman's. Would have been interesting to see what kind of films he could have starred in had he not passed away in 1980.
Great video. Try listening to the Drive-By Truckers "Steve McQueen" song, it hits a bit closer to home for me, maybe you'd like it too.
