  • wow this made me really proud as a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago. Currently I am in the steel pan class at my university in Oklahoma and it feels good to see others appreciate what country has produced.

  • Andy ...thanks for music! Thanks for bringing back wonderful memories. ASW

  • I was listening to this, and I thought the stage looked familiar... thats MY school! xD

I was in the 2008-09 steel drum band and I've joined back in this year in the 2010-11 band. Its really great fun, and Narell has some real skill.

  • I love the sound of the old pan . Nothing else like it. Love Andy Narell.

  • CT!!!! u my boy!

  • This is classic! Welldone. Thanks Andy!

    & thanks for posting!

  • I remember being there when they performed this...absolutely beautiful...

  • Lest my previous comment be misconstrued or misinterpreted by any, let me make my sentiments more explicit:

I was CELEBRATING the changes that have taken place since the times that Sparrow was singing about, so that now Trinidad can be truly proud to say to the world: "Look where Steelban' (or Steel Pan or the Steel Drum as variously called) , and the KAISO (or "Calypso" )reach!!!"

And we have much greater heights waiting to be scaled!

  • The first 5 minutes also contains snatches of "Maryann." And from 1:57 to 5:11 or so is all "Outcast by Sparrow. The chorus from 2:32 to 2:50 has very good social comentary on calypsonians & steelbandsmen:

"Calypsonians really ketch hell for a long time

To associate yourself with them was a big crime

If yuh sister talk to a steelband man

Yuh family want to break she han'

Put she out; lick out every teet in she mout

    Pass, yuh outcast! Pass!"

Kaiso fadder!!! Raise yuh han' fuh DATt!!!

  • hey. our school's steel band is playing with him for this song

  • awesome, thanks for posting this!

  • Outcast soundin rel bad on dat pan boy...andy is a boss!!!!!!

  • and do you know the song they were playing together? Trini style of course !

    It 's my pussin ,

my pussin , my pussin , my pussin ,

I feed her mind her raised her from small, man take off your hands from she cause she 's me pussin at all

  • There's an anecdote behind this particular pan and a David Rudder song - ask Andy!!
