Rottenest people in the country. Nice scenery, but the people are the worst in the Northeast. They are rude, crude, violent, and hate non-residents!! They want the tourist money, but they hate them. I haven't been up there for years, because I hate them so much. Stay away, or you will have some kind of trouble with them, I guarantee it.
@PKingman I'm trying to figure out the reason for that. The only conclusion I can make is that many MASS. people have new, expensive cars, and trucks. So the only conclusion I can come up with is that it's a big game with those bastards up there to fuck with MASS. people, and they are JEALOUS of them!!
@hammer55292 I don't think they have enough to do for fun and little money. Seems like alot of people up there get way into religion. That's what people do when they've got nothing else. In my opinion. Not that I am against people getting into religion. Just as long as they don't go killing people in its name. People up there need something to be proud of. They have Steven King, but he is not enough. They have lumber. That's not very exciting.
@PKingman See, it does revolve around MONEY. They don't have much so they ARE JEALOUS of us outsiders with good trucks, and cars. The word has to get out that MAINERS hate tourist/s non-residents. They ABSOLUTELY know what they are doing when they fuck with us, it's like a sport for them. We'll seee how tough they are when they are broke.
Wow, Bango really has changed since then. Downtown is much more attractive, with more businesses everywhere, the waterfront is very nice with new docks and walkways to support the cruises that come down here, the old motel is gone, and a 7 story hotel/casino/restaurant is there. The city is also plannning to tear down the auditorium to replace it.
@TheGate41 ?????????????? what world are you living in, the dump looks exactly the same with the same buildings. Aside from the gambling casino the place hasn't changed a bit.
@nickmatt2 My grandmother used to live nearbye in Hampden so we used to go up there from Boston for vacations, usually in the Spring. I think that on one occasion we went up there by train. That would have been about 1947. The Bangor of my childhood in the 50s was small and quiet. It was a good place to escape from Boston. There were no malls then so all the retail businesses were downtown. Compact.
@nickmatt2 My grandmother owned the farm on the right as you go away from Hampden Center just before the railroad tracks across route 9. There was a field between her house and the tracks. Now I think there is somekind of business where the field was.
@nickmatt2 I liked to hang out in the barn watching the cows. Very peaceful. Big excitement was the 100 car Bangor & Aroostook freight trains passing by. Once the engineer of one of the trains let me and my father ride in the engine while he was switching cars at the grain warehouse. This was back in the 50s. My mother was born in Dixmont. I loved it up there. Boston stunk back then.
bangor maine today sucks...i live about twenty miles away n it still sucks lol jk its pretty cool in bangor...the dumb thing is the foreners said bangeeerrr maine...i like to punch them fuckers its BANG GORE not bang ahh
Paul, with his peculiar smile, belongs where everbody can see him. He should be placed on top of a tower or the highest hill in Bangor, or maybe they could build him a hill to stand on. A face like his should not be wasted. We could use the likes of him down here in Boston.
Wow. I'm from Bangor and I was only 7 years old when this video was shot. It's amazing that most of this stuff looks exactly the same almost 20 years later.
Hello! I am interested in knowing Bangor, Maine but I looked the other way, your video is not akin to the idea that I have in the head from bangor, I have photos of spring and very beautiful. I also look forward to going to bangor because I like to see the sites that suits your Stephen King novels, and if I am not misinformed there is a tour of Stephen King not?
Sorry for my bad English, this translated from google, I am Spanish.
This video is 19 years old so some things may have changed about Bangor. I'm from Boston so not an expert on this town. It is a place that I mostly visited 55 or so years ago when my grandmother lived nearbye. All I can tell you is that it is a very small city and there are many very lovely places nearbye. Check out Dixmont, Monroe, etc. People from Bangor that comment here seem to be a little bored with their town.
Hey! 2:42-3:28, & 4:35-4:42 It's 561! That's wicked cool!!! Bangor yard looks nothing like that anymore. Thanks for sharing this! Do you have any more footage of the Maine Central?
No. That's it. I was up there around 2002 and saw that all of this was gone. When I was a little kid about 60 years ago the train that we would take to Bangor from Boston must have come in in this area somewhere. Do you know where Bangor's train station was, or is?
The station was demolished in the late 60's, as part of the Bangor "urban renewal program". It was not too far from the Bangor-Brewer bridge, on the Bangor side. The old roundhouse, & turntable are both gone now as well. It was where the I-395 bridge is today. So much for preserving historical landmarks for future generations to appreciate. :( Check out my page for more info on railroads in Maine.
Money talks and history walks. Lots of good stuff gets obliterated if there is money to be made, people without taste are involved, and greed and insensitvity win. Then sometimes there just isn't enough money available to save old things. Lots of great old buildings were torn down here in Boston in the past.
I think that somebody should duct tape a kielbasa onto that John Bunyon statue. That ought to lighten things up around there. Put away the religion and laugh a little. Oh well, it was just a thought.
If somebody was standing around down here in Boston and looking like that Paul Bunyon statue he would be arrested. There is something about the look in his eye.
would you believe the red subaru spotted in this vid is still running without a complete exhaust (nearly exactly the same). I live next door to it. DO YOU FIND THAT AMAZING?
Came all the way from Boston just to take pictures of a place where nothing much was happening. Nice to be in a place like that once and awhile. Too much happening some places.
Regardless of the year, Bangor always seems to be desolate during the weekends and especially WINTER. There is nothing to do during the winter and it's quite boring downtown... I should know, I live here.

Aside from the new Gambling Casino the area looks exactly the same as it did 20+ years ago. Not much real growth in a place like Maine.

Nice video I recognize that a few things have changed but mostly everything is still the same!
I ve been to Bangor twice...once in July 2004 right in the big heat. I was sweating constantly!
Second time in Feb. 2009 right after the big snow storm!
It was so interesting to see the seasons ( even if it were just two ).
Both times I strolled casually to Stephen King's House, just to say Hi.
Kind of like a Good Luck Charme!
Bangor is definitely a great place to live...I loved it!

Haven't been there in years, but I think that Bangor is kind of quiet. It's not a big city. Cold winters. 5 hours north of Boston by bus.

I have lived in Bangor for over 2 years now. I would say that one year would be OK. More than that and you'll be overdue for some culture.
