I think the conductor was a bit rush at the beginning, but I admire her got them slow down to the right speed few bars after her singing. Monserrat is a very intelligent excellent singer. That is professional !
What a voice, what a woman she is truely a mirical of womanhgood. l could listen to this piece all day. Brilliant piece of music sung by a fabulous singer Bravo Monserrat you are a truely fabulous singer
This woman is amazing. With 53 years o, already she had left the roll, and she sings thus magnificent "Casta Diva", my God!, she's incredible, wonderful!
I love Montserrat. Her singing is always beautiful and her presence always professional. But time she totally mixed the words, using the same lyrics in both verses.
Operatic folklore notwithstanding, confusing v's with b's has no place in a serious singer's diction, definitely not one of Caballe's stature. It just shows laziness and sloppiness. I assure you that neither Vistoria de los Angeles nor Teresa Berganza ever did that. On the other hand, Sutherland had abysmal diction.
Well no, for the Spaniards who we don't learn the Italian of children it's very difficult distinguish the b and the v; in Spanish they aren't distinguished; the Anglo-Saxons always drag the R: L. Price, Vickers, Sutherlad, Kanawa, Allen, Verrett, Warren, Stevens, etc. Also the Germans: Rysanek, Varnay, Grümmer, F-Dieskau... there are impossible things, they don't mean that they are idle artists
It is not a question of winning or losing, just a question of politely discussing what we hear, which is what you did and I thank you for it. In addition, I am not a Montsy hater by any means; quite the opposite. I just don't adore every little thing she did, but it seems differences of opinion are sometimes not tolerated.
The thing is (and you are fully aware of it): she does it only on occasion. She is fully capable of avoiding it. So why does she do it? You and I also know that towards the end of her career added self-indulgence and laziness began creeping in. The "Diba" is just a sign of it.

is it me, or is the 'pace' of the aria, a bit faster than it was composed to be?...the conductor seems to be on speed or something. Whats the rush?

Spaniards pronounce V and B exactly alike.
I am troubled much more by jerky runs than by a negligible detail of pronounciation. Have you ever heard an Italian try to sing in French???
