  • If you read Steve Martin's autobiography ("Born Standing Up"), you'll see that he doesn't remember these shows with much fondness. They are a part of his career history, but Johnny wasn't that big a fan. Eventually Steve Martin was demoted to appearing on nights for which there was a guest host. But since Steve Martin was always one of the hardest-working guys in showbusiness, he kept at it and eventually became the biggest guy in entertainment. It's a testament to Steve Martin's work ethic.
