How are his doubles? Can he play flute, clarinet, tenor, bass clarinet, bari, bassoon, oboe , piccolo? To play in broadway you have to know how to double. I was taught about doubling when in LA hanging with the studio players in Hollywood, movie studios.

A real sax player would have pay gigs. I played sax with Lionel Hampton and I've played in subways,that guy needs a regular sax gig at a club big band... oh wait maybe he doesn't sight read....You have to know how to sight read. That was the number one thing taught to us at NTSU jazz studies. they put the chart in front of you and you play it perfectly or your fired.

When you say the greatest alto player were talking about Charlie Parker, Cannonball Adderley, Phil Woods. I think his style is more on the Dave Sanborn style. He would be fine in a R&B group playing a solo now and then. But could he play John Coltrane style chord changes like 26-2, Moments Notice, Lazy Bird, or Giant Steps? How would he stack up against Eddie Cleanhead Vinson, Sonny Stitt, Art Pepper or Bud Shank.?

As a professional saxophonist (40 years) , I can say he has a nice tone. He has a nice flutter tongue technique. In order to be the best in the city, you have to go to Small's (NYC) and play Cherokee at Quarter note MM=360 Plus!!!
