  • Still brings a tear after 10 years.

  • she was skinny here

  • To the pricks that pressed 'dislike'....you're all idiots.

  • It's a heart breaker but so beautiful

  • I'm not ashamed to admit i broke down into tears every time i heard this rendition... how could anyone dislike this video? shame on you....

  • theres not one dang dry eye in that stadium and its so touching i love this song and Bette is just amazing i love her to pieces

  • Though I think US's policy towards 9/11 is hideous and disgusting, it's so good to see how an artist wills to soothe so many people in sorrow and grief. The US all is indebted to its artists for they have saved all you from falling appart after such an awful experience. My deepest respect and condolences to all the families and may God keep your beloved ones at His side. Amen

  • i still cry everytime i hear this. what a wonderful song

  • its been 10 yrs and watching this again since then still strong and it still makes me cry. it still hurts. it took me 10 years to go down to wtc and when i got there i cried. i just kept saying its not here.

  • 2:41 breaks me

  • Miss Midlers` energy and talent allowed many to cry and to remember with dignity. Truly an American Treasure.

  • @PSProductionsNY true that she even cried herself i was in middle school when i heard what happend (9/11) and i started to cry so hard

  • What an amazing and heartfelt performance, by Bette Midler for New York and all of America, as we remember this very sad and somber day. I don't know how she was able to keep her composer and get through that deeply heartfelt song...I could not hold back my tears! THANK YOU, Bette for providing comfort and support to America when we need it! May God Bless America and bless all those who have and continue to suffer as a result of the 9/11 tragedy.

  • Bette Midler's finest moment in her career. The power of the raw emotion she conveyed with just her voice and a piano. Stunningly powerful and so fitting for that day. She made it memorable, a song I never took that seriously, but Bette is a genius in front of a crowd and she knows, instinctively, what to do. I remember how we all felt hat day. I love Bette Midler even more today.

  • You know, Bette is a real tough cookie and a little ball of fire..it takes a lot to make her cry. God Bless you, Bette!!!!!!!

  • OMG, I cried like a baby when I saw her singing this great song on TV that day!!!!! So did my parents. If you saw this clip the day she sang it and didn't cry, there's something WRONG WITH YOU OR YOU ARE AMERICA's ENEMY!!!!!!!!!! And here it is, almost 10 years later; I'm watching this clip and still crying!!!!!!!! GOD BLESS AMERICA< AND GOD BLESS US< EVERY ONE!!!!!!!!

  • @scooter36able You're absolutely right, I do cry every time I watch this video. I'm from Peru South America and and I am back in my country after 14 years;I was is USA on 9/11 and I remember as it was yesterday, although I am not American citizen I suffered I lot for what happend to this great country that I love as mine. God bless America .

  • I thought it was a very appropriate song for the tragedy that happened that day!

  • i cry everytime i here this buteaifull song

  • :'(

  • Not a dry eye in the audience.

  • Bette-talented singer and actress-and an awesome PATRIOT, This meant so much to so many people. God Bless her.

  • Time to come together to save our country once again!!!

  • Like like a thousand times like!

  • Where is our patriotism now? I love Bette Midler...she brings out nothing but raw emotion in everyone..including our elected officials that are seated by her. We are all human beings regardless of our background.

  • this song was played when my grandma pass away the same day as MJ R.I.P

  • so inspiring and emotional!

  • Shes amazing.

  • Me and the fam were at this ceremony, the biggest shame was the amount of fear still in New Yorkers - showing by the nearly empty stadium. It felt as if that was just bout the time that New York lost it's "finger" to the world...some still survive.

  • This song means a lot for me. There is a friend who I love who I shared the movie backed up for this song with. So, lots of memories. I admire very much the privileged voice you Bette Medler. Thanks for make others life more pleasent trough your songs.

  • If ever there was a woman who could heal the pain, and ease the grief it was Bette Midler. This, in my opinion was her finest performance. Still raw and yet wonderful after all these years.

  • All these years after, I still can't watch this without tearing up. What a beautiful tribute to the men and women who tragically died on that terrible day. As a Canadian, I want to tell citizens of the U.S.A. that we stood with you on that day and we continue to as you battle terrorism. God bless.

  • A fitting tribute to all those whos lives were destroyed on that fatefull day . They are all heroes and will NEVER be forgotten .

  • Angel

  • Words cannot express the feelings that flowed from human hearts that day.

    michelle

  • Very emotional performance. Bette Midler is great person, such a wonderful voice.

  • A beautiful tribute to special loved ones we've ALL lost.....

  • i agree jaquie...she did such a good job here, this day in newyork at yankee stadium (TEARS) im gunna cry!

  • This is one of the best moments in music history. What a perfect song from Bette for this sad occasion.

  • VERY VERY VERY moving! i watch this every month or so it seems like, i love you bette midler, you are a beautiful song bird!!!!!!

  • Amazingly beautiful. What a song and still what an amazing performer, I love her! :)

  • Haven't heard this for a long long time, and stumbled across this video, within minutes I was blubbing, all those people in the audience who'd lost loved ones, it brought back horrible memories of that terrible day, so long ago now but never forgotten! I was on holiday at the time it happened in Lanzarote and my son phoned me and told me to put the tv on, I couldn't beleive what I was witnessing, a truly awful time for New York and all of the USA, rip all those who preished.

  • BEAUTIFUL !!!!

  • Thank you Bette for singing such a beautiful song on a day the world was aching.Could not have sang a more perfect song.RIP A.R.K

  • Wow!! Amazing! Can anyone see and hear this without fighting back a tear?

  • MAGIC

  • What a voice...

  • The most amazing Tribute.... they couldn't have picked a better pick if they tried.... So wonderful...

  • love this my dad did too rip dad never forget you never told you were my hero and always will be got noone to tirn to now love you dad

  • When I made comments about Satanic Verses [a tedious tome] I received death threats and harassment [we ended up moving house], but then that's the price you sometimes pay for standing up for what you believe in.

My support is for the American people; I still get goosebumps when I hear Bette's rendition of this song; long live the memories of those who died and any religion that can't stand criticism, well, how strong is that then?

  • GIVES ME CHILLS ......BETTE MIDLER IS AMAZING

  • My thoughts and prayers STILL go out to all the loved ones and everyone lost during 9/11. My mother was on a flight and luckily her plane landed safely. God Bless the USA and the rest of the world for that matter.

  • Beautiful Song, Beautiful Voice, Beautiful Woman :) x

  • Great song and I still find Bette sexy

  • What i remembered most besides the horrific act that was brought upon us was everyone, whites, black all being as one. We would pass each other in the streets looking into each others eyes, i'd see a sad smile or just a look of kindness and know what that smile meant, a look of being all as one. . A smile to carry on, to be strong and overcome the trouble times and the healing in months to come, and hopefully we as Americans would so how be able to move on.

  • @stevescissors well said.

  • Remembering Sept. 11,2001 this was one of the horrifying day that I could ever remember thousands of lives were lost. Those who lost their lives Fire Fighters, Police Officers, Volunteers, and Civilians may They rest in peace. May God Shine eternal Light upon them. GOD BLESS AMERICA .

  • Thank you!

  • So wonderful ! What an awesome song , artist & memories !

  • Everytime I watch this vid. I can't stop but cry and to build a Mosque is another terrorist attack in my oppinion. maybe let them build that shit and let the gangs and homeless to take care of it, hahahah!!

  • @Tarzana324 I'm a New Zealander, and I mark each anniversary watching these vids by myself, and feeling very sad. If I lived in New York I'd ensure that mosque only stood for a short time. How many bibles were destroyed on 911.

  • @emilyann1

Um, does the word Islam mean anything to you. They believed their god was on their side. Don't be sexist, there are women involved too. And don't be sad, I ain't the worst you'll get. 59 is a good age, but be careful who you call intolerant..some people ain't so accepting of criticism on this 'forum'. Scrutinize your recent past if you want to see hatred and intolerance, in the name of your particular belief. Innocent women and children. Collateral damage?? Yuk. Leave me alone.

  • wow that just made me cry. i remember the attack on the towers, even as someone from england i was horrified and so upset by what happened. all those people whose lives were lost. i was only 11 when this happened but it will stay with me in my mind forever. america acted like a truly great nation in how they dealt with the tragedy. best wishes to all of the family members and friends of the dead, and to the survivors of that day x

  • GOD, that made me cry, i love my country Ecuador, i love America, i love Bette and this song

  • This is as good as it gets. A pox on those Muslims who caused the death of the people in the Towers. The merchants of death are the enemies of our way of life. Stop coddling Islam. See it for what it truly is. Tolerance is a Western way of life. Islam is intolerant.

  • she is almost god.

  • I have troubles calling her "almost god" but he certainly must love her more than your average person - she is so devastatingly talented. A truly gifted person and a blessing for ALL mankind indeed!

  • We are the greatest country in the world and we will never ever forget 911. We can set aside our differences in times of tragedy and band together. I love my country and I am so proud to see how patriotic and how each and every one of us will do what it takes to defend our nation. May we never forget why the pilgrims came here. May we never forget why millions have kept coming to the USA. FREEDOM!!!!! We will never let it be taken away

  • don,t forget you,ll always have england right by your side ....always

  • @knighty1964I'm really sorry and Yes we do not forget and never should. Thanks cause no one else is ever there long enough, you guys have never left our side. England is as great as we are, the ones right by our side....always GOD BLESS US ALL / MAY GOD PROTECT US

  • I'll never forget what i was doing the exact moment 9/11 happened.....I work for an airline and I have family in New York ....So many lives lost how can anyone forget?.....This video is beautiful thank you for sharing

  • seriously? um, did we forget about 9/11 already?

  • Not at all. Every time I need to be inspired, I watch this video. This is the best of Americans rising above tragedy. It brings tears to my eyes every single time I watch it.

  • can some1 plz tell me who passed away or what happend? ty:)))

  • this song is very pretty and she is a great strong singer!!!!!!!!

  • This video? or the song?

    I'll tackle both:

The video was filmed in Yankee Stadium in New York about 10 or some days after the 9/11 attacks in 2001 on America.

The song was sang & produced for a movie called "Beaches", and the song was a tremendous hit.

    Hope this helps.

  • The beginning of the piano sounds like Cheers. "Did you ever know that everybody knows your name?"

  • a great moment in musical history
