Why not just abolish the monetary system?

Why not just disband the United States, into self-sufficient sovereign States?

Why not just quit the current monetary system and start a new one? (bitcoins? social points?)

Money is just an illusion. The people, the machines, the farms, the stores and so on will be still there. What would stop you from producing and consuming, educating and entertaining without the dollar?

Both Japan and Europe have more debt than the US. I hardly see the Chinese buy either currency for exchange. The USA isn't going anywhere for long long time....

Some of this is correct, but some of it is overblown.

For example: we had a 1.3 trillion dollar surplus in 2000. This could have been deployed to pay down our debts - principal and all. So, even though we are at 14 trillion in debt, we could still pay it down.

That's just one example. The only way out that I can see is increasing taxes on the rich and closing loopholes and offshore banking. It's crappy, but necessary.

During the 50'S and 60's corporations paid $1.50 for every $1 paid by personal income tax, and there were plenty of good-paying union jobs. Today they pay .25 to our $1.00, and have busted the unions. Also, the top tax rate was 91% for the wealthy, today it is 35%, and capital gains are taxed even less. I don't want to hear the bullsh*t at the end of this video saying that jobs aren't being created because of high corporate taxes.
