@SniperSurkov Yeah, but not for home/self-defense. Everyone in Japan cites the "low crime rate" as a safety factor. Therefore, firearms are not seen as needed. Yet, violent crimes do occur in Japan as I mentioned. It's a very protectionist society, whatever your stance on that may be.
The interesting thing is that the way Japanese culture values responsibility to society and a greater good if the Japanese would suddenly repeal their gun control laws and the people started getting guns, they wouldn't have many problems because the culture is still there. I would never advocate gun control for any free nation but it's ironic that the Japanese even have gun control when they are the ones that "need" it the least.
While you suck as a movie producer/director/cameraman/choreographer/actor, you make well articulated points in your discussion. J/K about sucking:) I really like your mixture of facts/discussion/humour.
@jamjedi72 Thanks. To be honest, Japan is a bit of a protectionist society. The reason looting was rare during the quake was again, due to social factors. Social norms and the like are heavily stressed. There's a lot of social engineering in this country that probably wouldn't fly in the US. It'd be seen as dictatorial or something most likely.
@ThomasAnthonyBowman Indeed. IMO, in America is doesn't matter how much legislation you slap on it. Any crazy person motivated enough to kill people will find a way to do it, gun or no gun. It'll always be a heated subject. I grew up around firearms, so to me it's no different than a hammer or sword or whatever. Guns aren't some evil thing, just exercise safety.
I would emphasis strongly that many many Americans think our gun laws are very antiquated. Americans like me, would be happy to give up our rights to bear arms. Guns are not as powerful as the pen, but they are much more dangerous.
@GengoNoTabi You're entitled to your opinion. I appreciate your input. And yes, non-violence is always the better solution. Unfortunately, we've not yet achieved world peace.
@TheAlexagius Sounds good. I have wanted to live in England since I was 11 years old. How do we go about this? Do we swap jobs? I live alone..... do you have a wife and will you be keeping her or leaving her?
@GengoNoTabi well with the econmic dificulties it seems more of a dream rather than a practicality and its would be easy for you to move here but iwht the american imigration system it'd be virtually impossible for me
You don't NEED guns to commit a massacre, but it does make it easier. And surprisingly the US has more than their fair share of these events, yet poor gun laws. Also I wanted to mention that yes the culture in Japan is different from the US, but it does not change the fact that the US has poor laws. Canada has much less crime, yet a similar culture, and much better laws.
@quedorf That's an interesting perspective. Politics is not my forte, so I'll leave that to someone else. In the end, we should be thankful that we live in countries where there is at least some semblance of law and order, as oppose to someplace caught up in civil war with governments that change every few years.

@warhawkjah I've actually never considered that. But your assessment is probably very accurate.

I totally have no problem with being able to own and carry guns. Just hate when crazy bastards take those guns and kill innocent people.
