My name is SSG Duke (Army Retired) I have taken Basic Training twice! The first time was in Oct 1972 at Ft Ord, CA. Then I ETS in Oct 1975. Six months later I join the California Army National Guard part time. Then in March 1982 I got laid-off from my full time job so I decided to go back into the Army. I had to take Basic Training all over again and had to go back to the rank of E2/PVT! My 2nd BCT was at Ft. Benning, Georgia. The second time around was much easier for I knew what to expect!

@Boston1775 nah. you won't be ostrisized. BCT is desiged to build a high lvl of brotherhood. Sure, we mess with each other, but if ANYONE outside your platoon (more like your company) messes with you, you've got your platoon ready to back you up.

Instead, it's an enlistment option. The "X" means that the specific job is not known at the time of enlistment. Once at OSUT you'll find out wether your 11B or 11C (Indirect Fire Infantryman.)

I got in August 6th of last year. Heres some tips. SLEEP ON THAT FUCKING BUS FROMT ATLANTA. thats going to be the last you'll see for the first two day in reception. You'll get there, get some PT's, go eat some cold ass frozen sandwhiches, and off to getting medical examinations. 30th AG is going to suck big time, and you'll see pussies wanting to commit suicide and go awol and all sorts of monkey shit. Dont be that guy. You'll be in that anooying ass suck-fest for anywhere between 1-3 weeks.

When you actually get to your Basic Training company, just do what your fucing told. Its too easy. One guy is always going to fuck it up for the whole platoon to get smoked and drive on. It all goes by fast. And trust me, those shit bags get picked out and recycled sooner or later. Basic can be fun as fuck. Shit like convoy live fire and buddy team live fires, the fucking grenade and 50 CAL ranges, that shit is dope. Good luck Boss.

you mean you hope 11b, you enlist as 11x, because you get either 11c or 11b depending on the needs of the army. 11b is infantryman, while 11c is indirect fire. If you are doing airborn or ranger school you are pretty much guaranteed 11b, however if your just goin through as a regular soldier, then you can get either 11b or 11c as the army needs it. Do well in basic, and dont volunteer for 11c and you should be able to get it. good luck to ya!

You're probably going to end up as an 11C, unless like what inwatersdeep said, you've got airborne in your contract or something.

Basic is one of those things that suck while you're there, but once you leave, you'll kind of miss it. Just remember to listen to all the stuff the drills teach you and you'll be alright.

The reason the ARMY has slacked a little in "hard-core" discipline the past several years is because enlistment is way down cause of the war. Nobody wants to go into the ARMY now cause they know that they will be shipped to IRAQ ASAP after training. The relaxed discipline is to attract recruits. What would you rather have, a less disciplined ARMY or no ARMY?

From what I hear Basic and AIT has gotten weak since the 90's. To bad they dont show you week one though six wake up. 4AM  smoked on the pavement in your shower shoes, then in the mud, then getting blasted with a firehose....theeeen doing regular PT then a 10 second shower, then 10 pullups before u can eat. lol no pullups no chow.
