It has been rumored that the XTS will replace the DTS but by no means should GM make the mistake of killing off the DTS nameplate as it is the only thing left of Cadillac's longest production marque the DeVille and one of the few remaining ties to their heritage. The DeVille (DTS) should be updated to true Art + Science stature (no longer a car for pensioners) and turned into an apt competitor for the A8, 7 Series, S Class and Lexus LS. The DeVille name is American legend and deserves to live on!
I know people would call the big luxury saloon cars as hyped up versions of mid ranged cars of the same brand but Cadillac seem to have taken it too literal. It looks like a HUGE CTS!
I was expecting something like a smaller more real world looking Cadillac Sixteen with the longer bonnet and the shorter back. This one looks tall and shortened and I can't describe this thing but a big and tall CTS.
I actually like the long looks of the STS as it looked longer and same goes with the Seville.
@heartboy86 Well like I said, I think Cadillac is overdoing it and most of today's luxury cars as well. Jaguar made the XJ look a bit like a droplet shaped XF, the BMW 5 series is pretty much a bigger 3 series with 7 series amenities and it's hard to tell between the Audi sedans.
but since it's still a concept then maybe everything seen here wouldn't really appear in the production version so there's still hope for it to look much like the Sixteen concept.
@mondeost2202008 how? like i stated most car companies do it,it's called competition and this xts looks like niether the cts nor sts.there not overdoing it,it's just how it's been for a while now...if anything they are changing it up.
The folks at Cadillac need to realize you can't have a luxury badge and sell bargain cars. Sure make a few $50K entry level offering but the focus should be on vehicles that evoke passion and cradle you in the lap of luxury. I'm not seeing it with this vihecle. Concepts like the Cein, Sixteen and Converj all fit that bill. This is just another slap in the face to the Cadillac loyal. Why would I want this over a Mercades or BMW?
the thing peoplee have to realize is, Gm is also dealing with a price issue. this offer this type of lux at the 50000 price point. people forget that. I for one think they should create a car that is out of the price point of most americans but they wont. the s class benz is 100000 and the big jag is 75000. Gm is aiming at a group of people who want more for les!
The new mercedes s class suppose to bring a hybrid version too so i dont caddy will just stop at a hybrid if this is going to be flagship car it have be in different stages and more power like 745 750i 760i and s550 s600
This car is being offered in FWD or AWD -- while there is plenty of speculation about a LS7 or LS9 possibly as an option, it wouldn't make much sense in an AWD car now would it?
All the had to do was offer the Chinese SLS in the US, and Mercedes and BMW would be working on their next designs to catch up a little faster. The Chinese SLS is a beautiful car -- I think the XLS concept interior is a little nicer (minus the tacky Acura-esque LED speedometer) but the exterior is awesome.
Absolutely stunning car. And the interior is also gorgeous. The big tragedy is this: the 400 hp+ 6.2L V-8 will not be the motor under the hood, (a 360 hp V-6 will be the engine) and this car will be FWD first, mated to all-wheel drive. So instead of Cadillac building a big sedan to compete with the big sedans from Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes, they give us a watered down car that is still playing catch-up. This is what you get from a nation and a co. that has no fucking BALLS to compete and lead.
The general speculation is the 350ish hp v6 will be the base engine and a LS7 or LS9 will be an option, although I am not sure that would be a good idea with a FWD car.
Looks like they are targeting Lexus with this one...
Great interior, I think the STS and CTS have a much better interior though -- this looks like an upscale car from the outside, like a Buick, Avalon or a Lexus (which don't reek of luxury much in the same way).
@NigguhJason if this car's not rear wheel drive, then it greatly hinders its chances of competing with the germans. today, cadillac has high expectations.
Design-wise they're failling on the same pothole Porsche is: they only have one car. Many versions of it but.. come on.. It's still one car (Though there's the SUV as well, but car-car speaking...)
@m140m - I agree. gm needs to be ahead of the tech curve instead of trailing behind. otherwise, they won't be able to sell these cars and bring back consumer confidence in the american luxury car(or any car segment for that matter) market. consumers want smart and efficient cars with quality materials and we wanted it yesterday. thats the unfortunate reality for gm.
I don't know why people don't like this, I think they should drop v8, and a V12 option in it and I would be a fantastic car. looks expensive and thats just what Cadillac needs.
@spritz0 .... its a worked over buick lacrosse... not what a Cadillac should be to me. Give me V6 and V8 rear wheel drive luxury cars, snow or sun... not this plug in crap.

"coolerdude44" No. I just don't give American companies much credit.
Its either FWD standard or AWD option.
If not, it might just be straight up AWD.
It doesn't seem like Cadillac would put a RWD option on this car. IMO.

AWD is standard. In the press conference, he stated that the name XTS also refers to the cars AWD.
