Now go and listen to the rest of Jackson Frank's songs, especially Milk & Honey (cf The Brown Bunny) and Marlene, which features during the end credits.
This song made the movie I believe. Especially the choice of John Hawkes playing that role. Just phenomenal. It was a truly eery, moving, and frightening movie.
This film was so ripped off of Oscars its not even funny. Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Song, Best Original Screenplay... WTF
"The Academy Award for Best Original Song is one of the awards given annually to people working in the motion picture industry by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). It is presented to the songwriters who have composed the best original song written specifically for a film."
OK ? Now STFU and have a fucking clue before you ask another stupid question mate !
@SitComGr Hahahaha wow. First off learn how to read, what I said below was not a question, but a statement. Second off, who starts a fight with someone over youtube comments? Pathetic. Go troll somewhere else
Elizabeth Olsen WILL win an Oscar for her performance. Or I'll burn the whole Kodak theater down Oscar night. Such an incredible song, voice, and.actor.
Liked the version in the movie a bit better. The echo...I hope thats the wright word in english...is a bit overdone by my opinion, still one of the best songs I've heard this year :)
this movie is sooo amazing! so intense! and the performances by Elizabeth Olsen and John Hawkes were impressive! GREAT GREAT MOVIE! LOVED IT.. and this song is just the cherry on top of the ice cream!
@burcharg It's too bad for you that this song is the best part of "Martha Marcy May Marlene." The movie's all overblown cinematography with no character development.
@DartmouthAlum96 i'd have to disagree... i found the characters to be beautifully drawn, with just enough detail to allow the viewer to infer the rest. and as far as the 'overblown' cinematography i can understand what you're saying, but when considering it was the director's first feature you can understand the desire to flex a little bit. of course we all have different tastes, but i highly recommend the film.
@alphagusto In many ways, I totally agree with you. MMMM isn't a perfect film, but there are definitely parts of it I can't get out of my head. The scene where Patrick plays this song to his coterie of nubile followers is a perfect example. Until I saw that scene, I'd never fully understood how Charles Manson was capable of so thoroughly brainwashing the members of his "family." MMMM is profoundly haunting, but I still wish that there had been more backstory.
fucking incredible. I haven't even seen the movie yet but the way he sings it has haunted me for weeks since I've seen the trailer. Goosebumps are collecting on my skin. Art. Pure art.
