Good Video!!!!!!!! This should be a wake-up called to the music. Today's music is horrible. We need to have some real music played on the radios again. Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder are some of the real artist who put out amazing music. Real artists will last forever. Michael Jackson will always be in our hearts forever. RIP Michael Jackson!!!!!!!!!
I Agree from 0:01 til 6:33 we should start a youtube campaign entitled "Let's Bring the Music Back" wit some some hot tracks, songs not about sex, drugs, alcohol or what ever the case but good wholesome music. what ryan said makes alot of sense if you gona make a song about sex should it really be mainstream? i was thinkn and my idol ryan leslie didnt mainstream not 1 song bout sex since he's been out. thats because he understands music and is the same breed of musician/artist mj was....
Everything you pointed out is the truth. And YOUR RIGHT! It's up to us. These A&Rs are only signing these paper chasing artists. But we don't promote they're music and if we combat it with real music, I mean, real music, which connects one person's soul to another, we can revive it. I'm with you 100% on this one and am commited to bringing real music back.
When you talk about the songs on the radio selling especially the explicit songs well they are not selling. If you look at who was really doing big numbers this year. It's wall all the Disney acts or Disney type acts. Straight clean music. Taylor Swift, Jonas, Miley and etc. Birthday Sex is pretty tame compared to any Piles track. LOL!!! Anytime one of his songs come on I say why is this on at 2:00 in the afternoon or at 8:45 in the morning. I'm like WTF!!!
Great video. The most important thing pointed out is that the music these days is jus for the status, for the fun and sales. Most of it will not touch us years from now, yeah we may bob our heads but we wont feel the meaning of it. Since i've been producing for almost a year now, nothing has really touched my heart. Like many other battles going on in the world, there is also one in music. Are we already too deep in a hole or can we bring back something real to music? I think we can
nice job man, u was speakn dat real real. ay can i snd u to sum of my sngs dat i think is REAL? i think you'll like em. oh yeah bytheway i luv ur beats!
i hope the situation of the music industry ( well the "pop" industriy" changes. Maybe you could start changin and make the worl different, well at least i hope :D ... i really think u could change this situation :D
I couldn't agree with you more when you spoke about the song themes that sells. That all they care about is Fame and money, but there are many young talented Artists and producers who produce/Sing songs that really touches. Sadly they aren't famous as the other trash talkers.
I'll co-sign everything you said cuz, especially the end. I dig all the songs you mentioned, but I was walking with my girl around the mall listening to these pre-teen girls singing it like "damn...I really don't want my own (future) children having to deal with these sorts of influences." I can't and won't shelter them, but I want them to value themselves as individuals, male or female.
More people really should speak up against the machine (the status quo of music in general).
i agree with everything you saying man keep making that good music man forget the majors if they dont like it as long as you stay real to your music and your self good music will always find a way to be heard
I totally agree with you on that note it' is really hard to make music worth listing and that has meaning which Mr Micheal Jackson did he set a standard for music production videos and track material (so with that said rest in peace Micheal LONG LIVE THE KING)
Dude....Ryan you are point on the direction that the "industry" has taking music. As serious producers, we need to stand our ground on what music we produce and not compromise our originality. Our music is who we are as an individual. That is why Michal Jackson was in a class of his own. Despite what the world thought of him, or even expected of him. his music was of his own ideas.......RIP M.J.
Real music never went no where buy a MF DOOM record or listen to the Squeeze Radio show on the internet and discover that real music is steady coming out its just not put in your face everyday like the death of MJ Nothing has ever changed you still have to go out and seak out good music Dig in the Crates and discover
what about MJ's last 3 albums I noticed you did not mention them and that is what homeboy was talking bout.He has not made a good record in a long long time also He just did it for the music come on man with that glazed doughnut story so sick of it

Mike Jackson did his thing i don't think he was gonna wow us with any new music because its been so long since, so we should all just embrace what he blessed us with and hold on to it. LET'S GET BACK TO MUSIC WITH A MESSAGE
great message. I fully agree....i get stressed when I have a lack of good music to listen to, and it doesnt make sense that I have to resort to older stuff when there's more artists in the game right now than ever. It only proves that theyre not puttin their all into what theyre releasing. It should take longer than a day to complete a song, let alone a whole album

thats how it is man its not music anymore itsa product and micheal music is al about feelings any body can listen to his music no matter black or white young or old verybody knows it
I definitely agree with you man. I'm a 17 year old producer and I work at an After School Program at my local elementary school and I hear 5 and 6 year old kids singing "If U Seek Amy" by Britney Spears. Regardless if they don't understand what that spells out right now it still seems really irresponsible for artists and writers to push those types of records on the radio. Something needs to change with music yes, but I believe the bigger change must come from within our society itself first.
Thank U, Thank u!! From a real producer to the next Thank you!!!!! huh. I just put a blog out to all my musicians on myspace, stating the same thing. U understanding.. hopefully we can come together, and change this. Keep doing u and what cha doin real music! peace.
So true the labels dont give a damn about us producers, artist, or songwritters. This company wants be to be something im not right now i dont wanna change i have some real material but the want me to be this thug that sells drugs so i have to deny the offer. (If you dont stand for nothing, i will fall for anything)
i feel from where you coming from. i think it's that people don't know what they got until its gone. also labels produce what sells. which sucks in my opinion. and we as consumers we just keep on buying it because its hot at the moment.
RT like you were saying we need to do something about it. but aint nothing gonna change if ARTIST dont do anything about it . but the best part about Micheal Jackson music to me is that it made me feel a rhythm when i was even prepared to dance.
i turn on my radio it is very disheartning to hear some of the bullshit that actually gets on the radio
this will not stop until people call in to there local radio station and say enough of this bullshit we want real music because at the end of the day its a business and the radio stations and record labels are gonna put out what the people want to hear.
really this crap has been going on for to long with this music im gonna be straight up some of the best production and best artist I have heard were people who are not maintream artist and never will be. im just being honest when
Bring REAL MUSIC back RT! You're young, gifted and have a following. Lead and many will follow! Take action! Bravo to you for saying it... but now present us with YOUR music!
We as producers and songwriters to stand firm in our creative expressions and not allow an a&r or anyone else change your direction. If all producers and songwriter stand firm, then the labels will eventually conform...what are record labels without producers and songwriters?.....nothing. We got the leverage from jump. Lets start using it...NOW! Its sad that the death of MJ brought this issue to light, but lets capitolize on this event and become change in the music industry...
Fuck that I refuse to do musically what any exec or A&R tells me to do...However I will listen to older cats that are Musicians. . Ryan you and cats like me need to go against the grain we both play instrument and have ears for records its up to us man the torch is passing you feel me?
I think there's a small misunderstanding you got there about the way "Music-World" works.
Let me explain.
Nowadays, you hear lot of "garbage music".
But it always has been like that. When Bethoven rulled the music world, there was lot of garbage too, but only Bethoven survived.
Now when MJ rulled music world, there was lot of garbage too, but only MJ survived. Nowadays, there is a lot of garbage too, but only after 20 or 30 more years, we'll encounter an other legend, an other surviver.
Many of the reasons you stated is why I want to be in A&R, cause we have lost the musicality in the Music Industry. Its a hit factory now, the concept of albums are misconstrued in where multiple producers create this suppose to be cohesive piece of art. Unfortunately, its now make a hit and you get control later, not the opposite. Unfortunately, artist settle too much end up losing their original integrity, and ultimately creating forgettable "classics:
WOW, man. I love it that you picked up the issue with all that junk in the songs nowadays and mostly the fact that the main comsumers KIDS are listening to these songs and buying these songs. Well I used to do a lot of those so called "cool songs" for years till I came up with the same point that have come up with 5 years ago when my little daughter was born. WE NEED TO CLEAN UP THE MUSIC OUT THERE. It's our DUTY as music makers to start as you said. Keep it up! ;)
The A&R's want what the next man has. They want you to sound like the number 1 hit. They care nothing for originality. Little do they know....you cant copy originality, you need to encourage it. I feel you RT, Ive been rockin MJ since Sat morning cartoons ya dig. But speak the truth and keep doing your thing. If enough of us Producers stand up and say " FU! " we gonna do what we feel, then they will have no choice. They need us way more than we need them ya dig? Peace
very well said man. i think you were gettin at something deep there when you pointed the finger back at consumers. because it is the consumer who buys the music (garbage or not) in the end. our society's (lack of) taste really speaks to our lack of balls/willpower/individuality and our willingness to fit in. In my opinion thats The Main Struggle..the stuff that makes artists wanna be artists. Way to step to the plate and put this out in the open!
Well said man..... The labels have destroyed the music industry PERIOD. It used to be about BOTH the music and the image. Not anymore.., it's all about the IMAGE and where an artist lacks musically is just fixed with technology. An artist doesn't even need to know how to sing anymore! Hopefully MJ's death is a wake up call to the industry.
Speak the real truth Ryan, I Ultimately Agree with you on every point you stated in this video. If I could I would stand by you with making a change, but I guess I'll have to join the world If there willing to join this universal change that you are trying to make. With that being said I hope this is a wake up call to A&Rs who very selective and control artists in the music industry. R.I.P MJ & Once Again Good Video Post Ryan
Micheal has what alot of people today dont have and that is that special stamina...basically that special something that has allowed him to stay at the top of the game for 45 years...and alott of artist today lack that...and you know what,he took that to heaven with him..R I P micheal jackson
Musicians know this. people who listen to music dont. they listen cuz everyone else is listening you are correct. the media fuckin sucks =/i dont need to be big as long as i have music in my life ill be fine. i exactly like u . i want to change music. i feel exactly the same way. u kno i think i will puruse music. your right. music is fine with me as long as i have it in my life. but. its dying fast. if not dead. we really do need to change it. lets make it big ryan =)
FUNNY THAT YOU POINTED OUT THE A&R ASPECT OF FUCKING UP THE QUALITY OF PRODUCTION...DJ TOOMP MADE THE SAME STATEMENT IN ONE OF HIS VIDEOS ON HERE...HE WAS ANGRY THAT ARTIST ARE NOT PICKING THE MUSIC ON THEIR FEELINGS BUT THE A&Rs ARE SELECTING THE TRACKS FOR THE ARTIST. IT'S FUCKED UP NOW!
Everything you said is 110% true. Nice to see true artisitc people still exist. A message to true artist... we're losing are artform one stanky leg at a time. If more people thought about that and really tried to make a real difference we could turn this thing around. Its never too late to make a change.
and if the music is going to be sexual at least be creative with it. artists now are so vulgar and up front with it its ridiculous. and we wonder why the younger generations are so wild. LOOK AT THERE SURROUNDINGS LISTEN TO WHAT THEY LISTEN TO!!!! we're going back to our primal instincts. we might as well take a club and bop the girl on top of the head to bring her home. no one knows how to write and read between the lines anymore and its a shame stuff like this makes me not love music anymore
i can tell you where its going to go. the a&rs are going to push sexual music to the point where it is the norm for everyone...this world will be consumed by sex and it will be our destruction. what needs to happen is the REAL MUSICIANS need to STOP MAKING SUCH EXPLICIT MUSIC the only reason the labels are doing this is because we as musicians and we as fans allow them to. if we stop making it and stop buying it real music will come back
as a producer myself , I TOTALLY AGREE wiht you !!! let's bring back REAL music ... we (as producer/ song writer) try to put our soul into that one song you create.. (one at a time)
That song was the cut in the day...great beat and just an overall catchy song. The problem today is the lyrics are worse, and the beats all sound the same
You are absolutely right, the record companies are only looking for hits, because that equals money for them, and thats all they care about, especially now that there is more illegal downloading...i mean seriously......who would even think that soulja boy's crank that was a no.1 hit, that is not real music, Michael Jackson was real music. There will never be anyone like him again.
yeah thats what I mean, the songs that they call "hits"are basically to them "money makers", whatever they think willl sell is what they will tell you. They don't even really care about the music anymore. But ill tell you this, im definetly with you on helping to change music back to the way it should be.
You're sooo right!!! I haven't heard a hit in a long time....I'm all for real music and that's all I produce, even if it means I never get a major deal.....PEACE & LOVE RIP Michael!!
As a manager in the music industry, I feel what you were saying. Some of the most ridiculous music I have ever heard has made it to radio waves over the pass several years. Supposedly, "Hit singles".
I say absolute garbage. And you wonder why people don't buy albums or cd's like they used to. I see (real) talented artist everyday, that will never get a shot in the business. that my friend, is a shame. Keep doing you RT, and like you, Im gonna do what I can.
hang on, fair enough but are you really really saying that hasn't always happened? "Crap" music hitting the charts whilst amazing music goes on unseen? that's how it is, would people really want intelligent music to be flung about to the masses? it's there for people who care to find it, as simple as that. for people who couldn't give a shit, listen to the radio
but having written that, I sound silly cause it doesn't solve the fact that a lot of music isn't made for the right reasons... the sheer number of people who couldn't care less don't know any better, just being swamped by "artists" out for fame.. great to hear your thoughts RT!
You spoke the truth bro. I've been saying the same thing for years but nobody listens. Michael was my biggest inspiration when it came to music... as Producer we need to make that change, all people think about is the fame and money, just like you said.
Anyone who doesn't breathe music, shouldn't make music.
Ryan, you say dont buy it and your right. The truth is, most real music fans dont buy the stuff thats on the radio. However, the kids/adults that listen to pop radio all day are the ones buying the crap. Michael made good music with a deeper message. Thats whats missing in the industry most. Today even if the music is good, the contents often lacking.
RIP MJ, you (if for a moment) made the world forget all our issues... Even now in your death the world is coming together to celebrate all that you have given us... Thanks for some of the best music of my life...
When I was an A&R at a label, I couldn't help but have in the back of my mind "Is this whats going to sell?" The reason for that is because the music business has slowly became more business then music. I thought hard about what could have possibly caused this, because in order to fix the problem you have to know what is causing the problem. You are right on the ball. We need to make music that comes from the soul, and not from the mind with the intent to make money.
Got to agree with you Ryan with the Micheal situation and the generic music being put out. The singles put out lately are fun to listen to but people need to start acknowledging the content that is actually in it. That's a debate for another time. For michael I feel it's unfortunate that he had to go with all the problems he was currently facing during his last years. Regardless he will still be an icon remembered for the positive impact he had not only on music but society as a whole.
great vid bro, really inspiring, and it IS time to bring good music back, because i really miss it, and its our job as young producers/artist to change this game...like i cant wait to hear a Ryan Tedder or a Justin Diggs track on the radio lol
Ryan I agree with you, but I think in order for the music industry to think the way your thinking (and I'm thinking) people need to actually buy albums instead of just downloading them off the internet. Because it's a waste of recourses for the label in a business point of view to make an album 100% when it will sell just as much as one thats not quite that. Anyway just so you know your not the only producer that feels this way. I'd like to bring music back, but you gotta play by their rules 1st
I agree with every word dude. This is real talk, and there should be a a lot more people hearing this that aren't in the music industry! From your vids I can tell that u love what u do, and it comes from inside of you. U are talented and it's good to see you using youtube not only for your musical voice but also to help get the music biz back to the good ole days..when music was music.
I really feel as though musicians like you are the future of music. Watching your vids with Lwam I get that magic feeling in my soul that lets me know im hearing something special.
I agree with you 100%. People just aren't making that real good feel good music anymore. Its all about putting out a dope single to move a couple units instead of trying to make an ENTIRE album timeless the way Michael did. In fact, maybe this is whole illegal downloading craze is because people have become jaded by the music industry and they dont have a Michael Jackson to spend their hard earned money on. I mean, why waste $ on Artist X's album for only 3 hot songs?
Well said Ryan! I completely agree with everything you've said in this video clip. What we need is more producers/musicians like you who are thinking about producing real music, music that touches people from within..rather than producing crap music - that now a days sells (i.e. SOULJA BOY!). In order to bring back real music, not only do producers/musicians have a responsibility, but also the consumers.
thriller is the top selling album thats right. big piece of that was because people would buy vinyls, tapes, and cds. nowadays people get it from the internet. not all people but a lot.
Dats right, U gotta have skillz to get thrillz.. "Thriller" Had SEVEN #1 hits! On ONE Album! I like that "What is radio?!" "That Michael, he's a wholesome guy!" - Eddie Murphy Lol Glad u made this video
totally agree with errthing u said bruh. We need more real hip hop artists, producers, A&R's and all that. The game is so dead right now and commercialism really has taken over.
Why does this have only 9,177 views? As a fellow singer, I support Ryan. Anyone else?

i feel from where you coming from. i think it's that people don't know what they got until its gone. also labels produce what sells. which sucks in my opinion. and we as consumers we just keep on buying it because its hot at the moment.

Keep it up! ;)
allucanbeat 2 years ago

Hopefully MJ's death is a wake up call to the industry.

and if the music is going to be sexual at least be creative with it. artists now are so vulgar and up front with it its ridiculous. and we wonder why the younger generations are so wild. LOOK AT THERE SURROUNDINGS LISTEN TO WHAT THEY LISTEN TO!!!! we're going back to our primal instincts. we might as well take a club and bop the girl on top of the head to bring her home. no one knows how to write and read between the lines anymore and its a shame stuff like this makes me not love music anymore
willel04 2 years ago
i can tell you where its going to go. the a&rs are going to push sexual music to the point where it is the norm for everyone...this world will be consumed by sex and it will be our destruction. what needs to happen is the REAL MUSICIANS need to STOP MAKING SUCH EXPLICIT MUSIC the only reason the labels are doing this is because we as musicians and we as fans allow them to. if we stop making it and stop buying it real music will come back

You are absolutely right, the record companies are only looking for hits, because that equals money for them, and thats all they care about, especially now that there is more illegal downloading...i mean seriously......who would even think that soulja boy's crank that was a no.1 hit, that is not real music, Michael Jackson was real music. There will never be anyone like him again.
djrjofficial 2 years ago
what defines a "hit" because honestly most songs that are released by these "labels" don't even come close to my definition of what a "hit" is.
RyanTedder412 2 years ago
yeah thats what I mean, the songs that they call "hits"are basically to them "money makers", whatever they think willl sell is what they will tell you. They don't even really care about the music anymore. But ill tell you this, im definetly with you on helping to change music back to the way it should be.

Keep doing you RT, and like you, Im gonna do what I can.
handhmanagement 2 years ago
hang on, fair enough but are you really really saying that hasn't always happened? "Crap" music hitting the charts whilst amazing music goes on unseen? that's how it is, would people really want intelligent music to be flung about to the masses? it's there for people who care to find it, as simple as that. for people who couldn't give a shit, listen to the radio
ofdarknessandlight 2 years ago
but having written that, I sound silly cause it doesn't solve the fact that a lot of music isn't made for the right reasons... the sheer number of people who couldn't care less don't know any better, just being swamped by "artists" out for fame.. great to hear your thoughts RT!

ProjektMS 2 years ago

From your vids I can tell that u love what u do, and it comes from inside of you. Reytakang 2 years ago
Reytakang 2 years ago
Well said Ryan! I completely agree with everything you've said in this video clip. What we need is more producers/musicians like you who are thinking about producing real music, music that touches people from within..rather than producing crap music - that now a days sells (i.e. SOULJA BOY!). In order to bring back real music, not only do producers/musicians have a responsibility, but also the consumers.
