Yes, Debra Winger plays the mother of Lauren who actually die in Columbine.

The names, at least Lauren name & last name were not changed for the movie.

I am guessing that Lauren's mother Anna, had this bad brain disease in real life too.

I like the one that plays Anna's boyfriend and then husband. He is caring and supportive in all their ordeals.

It is based in the mom's life. The Columbine issue takes us by surprise in the last part of the movie.
