Pardon you? There's nothing behind me but my sweet hot chocolate buns. I bet you you like to button them buns huh faggot? These are nice expensive shirt but some cheap damn buttons on I'll tell you that right now, you know we're gonna fuss and fight and it's all right. HAHAHAHAHA.
Yeah Family Guy directly referenced this, but of course it was also the inspiration for SNL's Weekend Update, from Chevy's close to Laraine Newman's "I'm standing here..." reports. SNL, MadTV, Kentucky Fried Movie, Airplane, etc.. all have their roots in the Groove Tube.
This clip is from the cult classic "The Groove Tube" 1974 with Chevy Chase in one of his first films, I have it on DVD. If you like this kind of 1970's satirical skit humor then you'll also like "Kentucky Fried Movie" 1977, I have it on DVD also. Check Ebay or Amazon if you're interested because they would have both these movies.
Both the Groove Tube and the Kentucky Fried Movie were two 1970's classics that were more funnier than any movie now of days (Although there's a couple that could be funny)!
It also appears that Bill Jorgensen's "...thanking you for your time this time 'til next time" was also parodied here. That plus "WML?" moderator John Charles Daly's sign-off as ABC News anchor (1953-60), "Good night, and a good tomorrow."
Wil Ferrel was clearly influenced by this

The teletype sound effect on this appears to have come from one of Audio Fidelity Records' sound effects LP's of the early 1960's.

Groove Tube had it's moments, but it falls short of being good.

"Family Guy" made fun of this clip...the scene where Tricia Takanawa meets up with Quagmire at the motel.
