  • 7 people dont have jacks

  • Awesome! Jack Russell Terriers Rule!!!!!!!

  • I wuv my jack russell, but he's freaking insane.

  • Are all these dogs jack russells? Some of them look like Parson Russell terriers. Are these events open to parson and jack russells?

  • my russel is terrified of water how do i get her to like it , got a race in 2 months time and it involves a water swim part and she will not jump in for anything what to do i paid $60 for the the game entry fee and its none refundable

    .

  • #4:48 Nice catch :) Those dogs learn that it's not really over when they get to that big wall.

  • These dogs are as tough as rocks. I spend at least one day a month pulling out stingers out of my jacks mouth when he comes up with the brilliant idea to attack yet another porky pine.

  • Omg this is soo cute x)

  • i let my dog chase the real thing ;)

  • @32KOAST

Make sure you give them their shots before letting them chase rodents.

  • My Jack Russell will actually bark for me to throw a tennis ball with a chuck-it until I have to cut her off because I've found that she will not stop regardless of injury. Limping? Sore? Doesn't matter! She would be a great participant especially in these kind of straight races. She's nearly 6 now but appears nearly as fast as she was at 3 or 4.

  • @SF2036 And she chases every critter that comes along; Rabbits, groundhogs... I'm certain she would do this. I can get her to stand in front of me as if I were handling a lure and she will "stay" until I chuck the ball ahead of us. I trained her to play with two tennis balls. I can chuck a ball and as she's running back with it, she will accelerate like a stock car approaching a flag as I wave the chuck it. Once she crosses the line she'll drop the first ball and chase the second ball thrown!

  • @SF2036

    Fantastic point!

Yes you really need to keep an eye out for exhaustion and be aware that your dog can eat and work themselves to death.

Just like us humans, when we are passionate about something we forget about how tired , dehydrated, in pain, or malnourished we are; dogs are10 X more capable of overcoming these things. That's Gods gift to them.

Make sure to keep track of how long your dog works out and make sure to hydrate, feed well, and give them breaks.

  • The only potentially harmful thing I think of with the racing is the ziplines, when they're on a track instead of being pulled down the track like at the 3 minute mark of the video. Dogs can catch their feet in those and potentially cut their paws open on them if they get entangled. But that rarely happens.

  • @RancidHeart

Good point! That's where the lure operator experience comes in.

    1) You should never have a string more than 1/4" off the ground.

    2) (Speed Of String = Speed of dog) or nearly the same so if the dog steps on the string there is little friction.

    3) When the dog catches the lure stop. Look for tangling, then continue.

    4) Tangled leg stop have an assistant help.

My neighborhood dog owners depend on me.

Don't charge money, and I don't let older dogs do more than 1-2 laps. FUN!

  • @raceterrier

Yes, I noticed that when the dog gets close to the lure, the operator pulls it along, and when he's behind a little, the operator stops the lure for him to catch up.

  • @RancidHeart

The operator has to really pay attention. I have seen dogs get their leg caught in a loop and you can't tell from far away. The best rule of thumb is always assume the dog is snagged on the rope and have an assistant check for you. These machines could easily break a leg. I have never seen a dog get hurt only some close calls.

  • @RancidHeart

One other good point is don't have a bunch of hair pin turns in your course. Keep it simple and dogs don't get hurt.

Also, if its wet grass they make paw wax for that. Wet grass can cause a dog to slip and hit another object(s).

  • Wow cool! Ive never seen a race where they have water like that before!

  • These dogs are balls of energy. And they love to play.

  • i think its kinda dangerous for the dogs to be running so fast and then have to go through that little hole cause what if two dogs try to go in at the same time and run into each other

  • @j12di

That's why we make the hole at the end out of nice foam rubber or hay(i,e, Materials that are forgiving) . These dogs don't get hurt.

The most potentially dangerous part is after they go through the hole. Sometimes the owners make the muzzle loose and a dog can get bit. At that point they are disqualified.

At the end of the race there is one person for each dog plus a judge and a coordinator. They all wear thick gloves and catch the dogs as they go through the hole.

  • @ raceterrier are these pets that are from loving homes or from a nasty breeding place and just bred to do this ? Don't ya think it's a bit dangerous to do some of these things

  • @MangoMustang

These dogs are mine, so yes they are from a loving home. I have never witnessed a Jack Russell getting hurt in this sport. I have never heard of anyone betting on a Jack Russell race. My dogs have never broken a bone or even came away with a scratch in the process of racing.

Now horse racing on the other hand?

  • Wow!........ What a great looking bunch of terriers! Wish we had an organization like yours here where i live!

  • excellent!

  • wrong jack russles train you ..rember that rule no 1 of the JRT human owners paw book.

rule no 2 i own you human you are mine you will obay me all times .

rule no3 what is yours is now mine..isee i want unless its broke it yours..!

    we must fight this evil!

  • I'd really like to get a Jack but Im worried because the little guys can get a bit too out of control for their own good and hurt themselves. Its like they get so excited that they could give themselves a heart attack or somethin!

  • wow!

  • I think I love my jrt more than my wife! Best dogs in the world. Little killers though, no squirrels are safe around my house

  • my jack runs about 800mph but it dusent like water 8(

  • hmm ive wanted to get my 6 year old jack russell named harley to start racing. What would be the best training methods to start her out? Im just planning on doing the flat courses not the steeplechase.

  • @xGingaWarriorx

Didi Gough is probably the best trainer in the US. I had the pleasure of training my dogs with her. She inspired Bob Franklin to write this article on how to get started:

I have studied winning behaviors that dogs eventually pick up on their own. Jacks figure out quickly that its a competition. I have seen slower dogs win races. Examples: boxing out dogs, blocking, launching quickly at angles, and side to side sweeps.

  • @xGingaWarriorx

It wont let me post a link so I will try and trick Youtube here:

    Domain :farmcliff (Dot Com)

    Add /articles/teach-racing (Dot Html)

  • love the musrat racing

  • no injuries??? 1min 35 sec an tell me he's not injuried

  • @joker8688

Ya it looks like he was hurt. Everyone said the same thing at the show. No signs of injury at all. I took him to the vet to make sure with x-rays- nothing. He is 11 years old now and still races and is as healthy as a pup.

No signs of old age on "Dude" yet.

  • @izletstig8

These are pets, not greyhounds or pit bulls

Racing Russell's is not half as cruel as filling them up with chocolate!

Not half as cruel as keeping a budgie in a cage!

Not half as cruel as declawing cats,

Not half as cruel as forcing a horse to jump a 7ft fence loaded with a fat rider.

This is what Jack Russells are about.

It's what they love, and it's why we love them!

  • Some people are really ignorant. Jack Russell's are cool little dogs and they love running around and going after all kinds of stuff. Anyone who thinks these races are cruel is an ignorant person, and especially if they jump horses. This video is great and I wouldn't care about what some little girl who thinks she's a know it all says. Let izletstig8 go and abuse her horses and keep on letting these dogs have fun. It's obvious from the video these dogs love this.

  • What is cruel about this..its lure coursing. JRTs are made to hunt and chase things, that's what their origin is. They have a lot of fun lure coursing. And its not just JRT that enjoy it, I have seen German Shepherds, Dalmations, Goldens, and many other breeds enjoying this.

  • @nicolebodea What is cruel about lure coursing? Sighthounds hunt by using this technique and if they are not hunting, it is a good way to keep them in shape. There is nothing wrong with other breeds doing it, if they enjoy doing it, it will keep them physically fit. You are obviously misinformed what lure coursing really is....read up about sighthounds, particularly greyhounds. BTW: Greyhounds make excellent pets!

  • @JulianneTrout i don't think it's cruel, I meant what is cruel about it addressing other people? It's a sport, that many other dog breeds enjoy, not just JRT's. That's why I even said dogs have a lot of fun doing it, I don't understand why you are saying i am misinformed. maybe reread my comment more carefully before you go about jumping on people.

  • Respond to this video... I have 2 JRT and they have run in the field, they have done flyball, and I do what I can to keep them busy. JRT is a breed that gets bored easily. They need to burn off excess energy, it helps to keep some of them from becoming aggressive, a tired dog wont feel like being aggressive. This can come from the terrier in them.

  • we own 2 JRT's! Best little athletes in the world!!...and so fast your eyes almost can't see their feet moving! And yes...my two would LOVE to do this!

  • 0xax0ax0x0axa

  • funny i like jack russells dog :)

  • pure sweetness i want to start racing them here on my land in ohio. where would i start to get something like this organized?

  • Love the idea of adding a water feature to the lure course! We may have to try that at one of our Fun Days! Thanks for a great video...

  • Hey great vid! Check out mine, and comment if you wish!

  • @woody1time I love that dog.

  • cool !! awesome !!

  • I love how they spring off when they jump...just to enjoy being in mid-prong! Thank god they can't really fly, they'd be our masters. Great choice of track!

  • i agree, great track

  • WOW! You definitely don't wanna blow your nose with a tissue amongst this doggies! LOL!

  • now if they're not the coolest dogs ever then i don't know what is.....jack russells rock!

  • @scottymactiles I wouldn't want any other type of dog. JR's rock!

  • good vid

  • Could you tell me where this is? Amazing vid!

  • @woody1time

All over the US. The water course was in Gunnison CO.

The rest was in AZ, CA( San Diego(Del Mar),)

  • hi i just watched a few of you videos and they are bloody amazing i have got a jack russell hes about 14 inches tall and he loves to run around when he gets the chance too,and is also very fast like a rocket i was just wondering if u had any links to any racing compertitions in the uk as i think bruce would love the sport, please message me bk, many thanks bec and bruce, xxx

  • There's racing all over the UK every week in the summer, get the countrymans weekly from the newsagents, most shows are advertised in the back.

  • did you notice how the lure puller is behind the bales....... and the Jacks still get through no matter what!!

  • Jacks are soo crazy and tough! they love having fun they are very smart too

  • great work!!

  • We have Jack Russell race days in Sydney Australia and you have no idea how excited they get. They absolutely love racing, and no live lures are used. Mine is now 11 yrs old, so he is retired but believe me if we were to let him he would still want to race.

  • Cruel. How is it cruel. jacks wer ment to do this. You can only understand it if u have jacks.

i love mine to pieces. i put it infront of family. wen were out nd about. she'll run offf into the hedge get down them holes ave a run about. go for a swim in the river. shes built solid. but she just keeps on running and running and iis a very sexy looking dog :)

so dont saY its fucking cruel cus you have no idea

  • My jack would L O V E this! Would appreciate info on how to get involved.

  • this is amazeing have you found out if there anywere that dose this in england my jack would love this shes always running around and climbing trees

  • Cruel.

  • ??????????? cruel????? i can posibly think a way this could be cruel. the jacks are just waiting to run and have fun

  • I agree. But they hurt them selfs and the owners make them do it.

  • I dissagree, my Parsons Russell would LOVE to do something like this, when we're out in the forest together he often tears away and makes up his own obsticle course.... They are also very social and love competing. They are built for this kind of sport, very stocky, hardy solid dogs with LOADS of energy....

  • If your owned a Jack Russell you would understand. These dogs love this stuff. They don't need to be trained or coerced in any way.

I have been in the sport for 12 years and have never seen a dog injured.

What dog sport do you consider not to be "Cruel"?

  • Oh I see you hypocrite.. I checked out what do with animals. Ya we don't abuse animals but your sport kills horses.

  • @izletstig8

These are pets, not greyhounds or pit bulls

Racing Russell's is not half as cruel as filling them up with chocolate!

Not half as cruel as keeping a budgie in a cage!

This is what Jack Russells are about.

It's what they love, and it's why we love them!

  • @johnevans7 Yes, I know. Its not cruel as long as its not to complicated.

  • aww...we don't have much of this where I live...my jacks would just looooooove it!!

  • I'm gonna train my little JRT to do this ^^ JRTs ftw!

  • What I find amusing are the puppy races. xD

Are these (or some of them) JRTCA trial races? I've never been to a trial outside of Texas, unfortunately. That'll change soon.

  • they are so cool

  • Those Little Babies Are So Cute And So Athletic And They Do Enjoy Life So Much!

  • great video ! : )

  • jack russells love life so much, wonderful little dogs.

  • awesome!!!!!!

  • If we could work as hard and have as much drive as those crazy little guys we would make Trump look like a dope, gosh I love love em

  • Somebody call PETA cause there's too much Awesomeness going on over here!!!

  • I hope the Jack who hurt its front legs was ok?

  • They were all fine. Some crazy crashes happen from time to time but I have never heard of any dogs getting hurt in this sport.

  • Hi Uncle... This is brianna on her friends youtube account

  • Hey there Bri! Hope you liked the video.

  • Very cool. I wish we had a similar water course!

  • whats the songs name please i would like to know

  • chemical brothers - block rockin beats

  • jack russells are soooo cool ive owned several breeds of dog in my time but nothing compares to my JRT!!

  • They sure are fast little guys. My JR, not purebred I don't think, would love this!!

  • Where do you do this? Does a JRT have to be pure bred to compete?

  • not good music. a have an associacion that its a dogfight when they are kill each other.

  • I need to train my jack for this, she is so fast no other dog can catch her.

  • love it

  • hahaha I was watching this on ESPN today and it was the funniest thing I've ever seen, does anyone have any wrecks/crashes of the dogs hitting the wall trying to get in that little ass hole at the end?

  • lol never seen JRT Racing like this so funny especially the race at 1:50 lol! I have a JRT love him to bits a ball of love, i think he would love this!

  • Nice! Check out my Vid of me and my dog skateboarding. He is only getting faster and he is only 9 months old.

  • Very cool.. Good job on the camera angle as well.

  • I got one too, and trust me, they ARE amazing!!!!! They adore a good run!!!

  • Oh MY GOD!!!! Those little guys are AMAZING!!!

  • OMG That was amazin!!!!!! Those little guys sure can run!!!! lol and jump!

  • how can i train my dog to be better at raceing?? i have a vid on here of her raceing, called molly comes 3rd in her terrior race. how can i make her better??

please drop me an e-mail :)

  • I have my own lure machine and I take my dogs out up to 2 times a week. I have no experience with the type racing on your video but its interesting. They do something similar at the JRTCA Nationals. JR's are smart and if they know the lure is going to stop (Like in your race) or cut a corner they will anticipate it. It looked like your dog is really fast but needs to know that the lure is going to stop. The other dogs in that video seem to know the game.

  • Does anybody who races their JRT's know where to get training for the races, or ways to train them at home? I am going to get a puppy JRT puppy soon, and I really want to enter into this

  • if my JRT didn't bite all of the dogs and people he met, I'd enter him in this! HELP

  • Yeah getting JRT not to fight is a pain, I've had 4 now and only one out of them I trained to be nice to others, but saying that they all come from rat hunting familys. I also found getting them not to run away was hard too.

  • our first JRT was a girl, but she could be horrendous with some people (she actually showed very good judgement) and other dogs, but for some reason she always got on well with Labradors. We had four more, two were lovely dogs, the other two were nice, but used to have full blown fights, blood and snot, the works about every 6 weeks, but they lived till 20. My sisters JRT, is a beauty, quick and smart the nicest more friendly JRT I have ever met, truly lovely boy, you'll find his doggy soulmate

  • When they race they wear a muzzle on the track. Otherwise you would have lots of trouble at the end. The dogs know the game and they get disqualified if they fight. Once they are addicted to racing they don't fight on the track. There are handlers at the end of the race who wear protective gloves and clothing so no biting is permitted nor tolerated. When you pick your dog up at the end of the track take off the muzzle right away. They will soon associate the muzzle with racing and fun.

  • Great Video

  • I love my JRT'S My female Willow loves Lure Coursing and racing. Great Dogs.

  • love the vid..cheers..Jack's are the ultimate breed.

  • Great video and LOVE the music. We have a JRT and race her too - it's a blast!

  • Great Job! We race ours as well and it's always a blast! Great job!!

  • its was good but this person who made it was stupid cause they kept playin the same things over & over again

  • i love this vid, jack russells are such FULL ON dogs, nothing gets between them and thier prey.
