@borus55 This isnt a DVD for someone starting out, we have this labelled on our site for Advanced players. We would suggest looking at our absolute beginners DVDs. Lead and Rhythm, Danny Gill teaches you all the fundamentals to playing guitar. Will send you a link to the DVDs via your YouTube Page.
(surrounding) 1:20 "a lot harder...because it requires a lot of left-hand stretching".....I have HUGE hands...I was able to palm a full size basket ball when I was in 6th Grade (1996)...okay, 6th Grade (for me, anyways) was before puberty...NOW (early 2012) I'm 26 & a Half years-old...my hands a fucking HUGE...Stretching isn't ANY problem for me....
I think extreme metal is like Black Metal, Blackened Death Metal, Brutal death metal, Technical death metal, PornoGoregrind, Grindcore etc... but does not sound like that.
@Vasckin Hi there, yeh we have Guitar Aerobics DVD series which focuses on stretching. Will send you a link to the Beginner / Advanced DVDs so you can see which you might find more useful.
I am definitely no beginner. I don't consider myself an expert either so this dvd would be perfect for me. I have been playing for about 9 years now. I love metal riffing and I have been trying to do better with solos.
This dude should make 2 billion a year, drive a bugati, have a hot wife, and a guitar made out of the wood on the cross(for those of you who watch Metalocalypse).
@realdealteal1 Hi there, these dvds are broken down, but he doesnt start form a beginners perspective, he teaches to someone with knowledge of already playing for sometime, if this is something your after then this should be good for you. @rmramos76 why would you doubt that a guy like andy james who has a picking technique and speed that is really on par with greats like mr. alernate picking himself paul gilbert who himself concedes to mr. james" proficiency as being amongst the best in the world. i mean it sounds like you think that he would be afraid of that?, or in some shape or form start stumbling around the neck, come on dude, i mean eric j is one my alltime favorites but there are quite a feew people that can play cod ttt.
andy james clearly needs to be in a band.. if he aint already, bet his 'own' sound is killer... well i guess it would be amix- mash of laiho, malmsteen, wylde, hammnett.. who else does he play.... oh! synyster gates............... crap thats pretty badass!!!

I am considering buying this DVD. Possibly the whole set. I like Andy's style, but I am torn between something like this, and maybe his Pentatonics DVD, or Nuno style DVD. I've been playing for many years, but I'm in a rut. Stuck at an intermediate level.
NOTE TO SMART ASSES: If maybe someone here play guitar better than this guy- Record some videos, make response and show us how to play metal pentatonic licks.
I would buy it if I liked the way it sounded, I don't Stop shredding!!! You are awesome, but stop shredding, everyone does it and they all sound the same.
@Akinnss not everyone does it, and not everyone sounds the same, that's stupid to say, and you are clearly a guitar noob or just raelly arrogant and unintelligent for saying that.
@dolofonostousaranta If your looking for the early 80's Thrash movement sound (Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer) I would go with either the BOSS MT-2 (Metal Zone) or the BOSS MD-2 (Mega-Distortion). You could also try the Metal Muff from Electro Harmonix. Thrash is by far my Favorite kind of Metal :)
@dolofonostousaranta Hardwire metal distortion. (tl-2) it's a very versatile pedal and it has true bypass. it's the best distortion pedal i have ever owned.
Gosh i wish i could do that.Theres so many dvds i wanna buy from u guys but i dnt got the money! I wanna be able to write my own stuff to. And i dnt recognize much difference with the hairband trick. I have alot of fuzz coming from my amp and i dnt see any other amps dong it but mine and its brand new. Any suggestions?
This guy is quite amazing I just found Andy! Very articulate and humble. I'm a big fan of Guthrie Govan to. That was a huge compliment! I'll be checking Andy more in the future! Excellent find.
@licklibrary Wouldn't it be a good idea to show how to mute string noise with the right palm without using a head band, not knocking it or anything, just a suggestion to the guitar players out there =]
@Sunderlanding We disagree with you there.Theres some great guitarists who use this method of muting, Andy being one. You need to understand - half of them use this method for recording purposes and not necessarly 'live' -and if they do use it live - big deal.Lick Library is a recording environment and thats why some of the tutors here use one.We can tell you for definate Andy is completely competent playing without the hairband and not at all lazy.Id say that goes for alot of guitarists aswell.
@licklibrary If they use that method of muting they are ok guitarists at best. In order to have total control over the instument you must be able to mute at any point on any string. This is what a great guitarist is capable of I'm sorry but if you can't do that you're only ok. Muting, like speed picking, is an essential tool for any serious guitarist. It's an important technique that gives your playing more dynamic control, but obviously Andy James only cares about playing fast.
@Sunderlanding i would love to see your video of your playing better and cleaner than andy, seems you talk alot of smack but dont post to back it up, Andy James is simply one of the best guitarist in the world, get over it.
Agreed. Why are so many people making a big deal out of this. Like it's some kind of magical crutch that is allowing him to play so well. Whatever! AJ is immensely talented musician - the hair band is inconsequential.
@Sunderlanding maybe you should stop judging other musicians on how they play their own way to sound good.Every musician has their own unique way of playing and of feel and speed with technique even if they use something to mute the unecessary sound.Andy is free to do what he wants with his music like every other guitarist should.I like to see you try using the tapping technique without getting the unwanted noise that andy is using...Ive been playing for2yrs but play 3-7hrsa day cause I love it.
Well atleast my custom Dean is. I don't know about everybody else. All others suck like Dave Mustaine, Michael schenker, and Michael Amott. Ironically the're my IDOLS!lol man i love being sarcastic
Andy James is a great guitarist but makes himself look like an amateur with that hairband on the neck of the guitar to deaden the notes, you couldn't play a gig and coming up to a solo stop to place that! Most guitarists use the palm of the picking hand to deaden the notes they not playing not hairbands!
Gibsons ARE overpriced I agree But the guitars arn't bad. ESP is just the choice more metal people made Like Behemoth and Dimmu. Personally I'm more of a Jackson guy BUT I'm also sporting Rondomusic's Hornet 7 and SX LP copy w/ floyd
can i hear this guy play anything but metal shredding? i wouldnt mind hearing some other styles ,,theres a million people doing this shit out there ,,but he does have raw talent ,,i just wish he played other stuff ,,
not once you play one next to a nice gibson. I used to think that but they just sound crap compared to most gibsons. I've had several of both and always end up back with a gibson
ESP is way better quality than Gibson. Gibson is still using old ways of building and are way overpriced...but whatever I can go on and on about overpriced/overrated Gibsons...
Have you ever played an older custom Les Paul? There is no comparison what-so-ever. ESP's Eclipse 1 was pretty good, the Eclipse 2 is decent too but I'm sorry, neither of them compare to an older Gibson Les Paul.
They may be overpriced, but you get what you pay for. Nothing, and I mean nothing, feels like an original Les Paul.
Interesting video here. I'm thinking of getting either this or Pentatonic Concepts by Alex Machacek also by LL. Anyone have suggestions on what I should go with?

not once you play one next to a nice gibson. I used to think that but they just sound crap compared to most gibsons. I've had several of both and always end up back with a gibson

ESP is way better quality than Gibson. Gibson is still using old ways of building and are way overpriced...but whatever I can go on and on about overpriced/overrated Gibsons...
homesauce69 in reply to scotty688 (Show the comment) 2 years ago 2
Have you ever played an older custom Les Paul? There is no comparison what-so-ever. ESP's Eclipse 1 was pretty good, the Eclipse 2 is decent too but I'm sorry, neither of them compare to an older Gibson Les Paul.
They may be overpriced, but you get what you pay for. Nothing, and I mean nothing, feels like an original Les Paul.

Dropping the Pentatonic scale is just as much of a handicap to your playing as knowing nothing but it.
Stop being a shred-elitist.

Interesting video here. I'm thinking of getting either this or Pentatonic Concepts by Alex Machacek also by LL. Anyone have suggestions on what I should go with?
