  • Good PR for our sport.

Alaska is a little different, maybe you haven't seen a globe in a day or two. A subaru may be kick ass on ice, but I pulled 3-4 of them in the 2-2.5' of snow we had on top of the ice.

Good to see people helping people and also refreshing to know that more than a few on here should be left sitting on the side of the road next time.

  • wow, someone post a cool video of a wheeler helping people out and all most people can do is make stupid comments.

  • That guy doesn't know how to drive his Intrigue in this crap. I have an Intrigue and live in CT and have no issues in the snow and ice.

  • First off, Thanks!

Subaru's WILL leave your 4x4 in the dust (on the icy roads) unless its locked... up and aired way down. I had some fun in one yesterday. If you have never driven one you sure can't talk. I'm buying an Impreza wagon first chance I get. Symmetrical all wheel drive is where its at on ice, hands down. On the trail its a diff story.

Yes we do have plows down here. Well this weekend anyway. You all need to get your facts straight before posting, lol. Gotta love the "tech"! ROFL

  • sweet buggy, i bet that guy was havin fun out there.

  • Thanks for the laughs with some of these "tech" comments... LOL!

  • for the record, tires at 4 psi makes a huge difference.

  • Frickin' amateurs. I live in Alaska, we've got about 3 ft of snow this past week, and built up 4 inches of ice. Only had 4-5 total accidents/stucks on the highway, and tens of thousands of people make that drive all day.

  • @mightyjoelaith

you also have plows and salt trucks in alaska, texas has no salt, and no plows.

  • @mightyjoelaith I live in the valley also, Your a liar. We did not get that much snow we have hardly any at all. If you included all the cars in the ditch on the glenn highway from the start of the winter you would be in the hundreds.

    TOOL

  • @mightyjoelaith Thats because of globle warming my friend, all the southern states that always stayed warm during the winter are now getting hit hard by winter and knowone knows how to drive in that shit. Us northern states are like 5 feet of snow and ice and a blizzard on the way ahhhh how cute! Our accident rate actually drops here cause everyone is more carful in the snow.

  • @mightyjoelaith Must have used his dick to measure all the snow we have gotten. You aren't the only person who lives here, OOPS.

  • Way to go man! Nice buggy too!

  • Most modern transfer cases have 2high, 4high and 4low. The only difference being 4low has gear reduction. Different front/rear gearing would be pretty difficult to control, anywhere.

Gear ratio's have nothing to do with running part time 4wd on pavement, when you turn the front tires must be able to turn at different speeds. When locked in 4wd this can't happen. It's pretty easy to tell if you have too much traction for 4wd, the front wheels will buck/bindup as they cannot slip.

  • Wow you really don't know what you're talking about. Of all the transfercases I know of, none have a different ratio between 2wd and 4wd, And of those only the samurais and some other Suzuki cases have a reduction in 2wd, but its the same as in 4hi.

Name a specific t-case that has a different ratio in 4hi than 2wd......

  • As the member of an offroad club here in Pa....The EagleValley Offroaders,we have been in contact with local fire and rescue to donate our time and offroad rigs in case of an emergency like that here....Two thumbs up!!!!

  • Very nice!

  • good job keith

  • Jeepforum Was here.....

  • whats up with all the posts about subarus my truck will eat your subaru and shit it out after

  • Really gear15100? Guess you haven't heard of lo-range cause that's what most selectable 4wd systems have as an option. In 4wd hi-range its the same gear ratio as 2wd would be.

  • @Mikeyg79 second time Im saying it now, I have heard of 4lo, and yes, even some AWD systems have a 4lo range. and not nessecarily with 4hi, with a 4 full time system then yes the gear ratio is nearly the same, not all the time. but with a 4 part time system they are not normally and the transfer case is "locked" and this allows you to not run it on dry pavement, only when its slippery.

  • with AWD the gear ratios are normally different, AWD cars and trucks have a lower gear ratio which is more geared for driving on everyday roads, this allows cars to drive at high speeds like 65mph with ease, while cars with a selectable 4WD system, have a lower gear ratio which is geared more to driving offroad. So if you have 4WD engaged then in most vehicles, higher speeds would be difficult, atleast not without redlining your engine. so 4WD is better for offroading and situation like this.

  • @gear15100 that is NOT the difference between 4WD and AWD.

4WD generally has 2 different 4X4 settings, High and Low. High is specifically designed for use when high torque is not needed (snow) and Low is for use when high torque IS needed (mud). neither should be used at any speed on dry pavement because it will damage the transfer case (due to slight difference in gearing).

AWD cars get rid of the gearing issue (im not sure how, don't care to look it up) so they can drive in the AWD mode...

  • @FlightRecorder1 not true, even some AWD systems have a 4lo setting, i.e. Jeeps Selectrac system I believe is the name, it is AWD all the time, but there is a 4lo system. and again not true with the cannot be used on pavement, some systems can be used on pavement, but that is if it is a 4WD full time system, youre thinking of the part time system where the transfer case is "locked" and that you cannot be used on pavement.

  • @FlightRecorder1 you said, "So if you have 4WD engaged then in most vehicles, higher speeds would be difficult, atleast not without redlining your engine."

That statement is wrong. I have never seen a 4WD vehicle (im talking stock here) that has only a 4low setting. if you put your vehicle in 4high then you will not have any troubles reaching the same speeds as if you were in 2WD. thats what i was trying to say. THAT is the part i was talking about.

  • @gear15100 ...all the time.

which means that the main gear ratio is in essence, the same.

so that means that an 4WD vehicle in 4 High, has the ability to go the same speeds as an AWD vehicle.

the 4WD vehicle is only limited to weather conditions. i.e. the shittier the weather, the more fun your ride.

p.s. don't shot off unless you know the facts

  • @FlightRecorder1 you try and learn the facts as well, again with the guy up above, if the vehicle has a 4 full time then that is basically the same thing as AWD, but not quite. the ratios are still different. and yes that system allows you to run at highway speeds with ease, but with a part time system, or 4lo system it is basically impossible to run at highway speeds without doing damage. now with a 4lo its impossible to reach anything above 30mph about.

p.s. I know what Im talking about.

  • Thats my video. thanks.

  • Im glad my truck has 4x4, i drive a huge suburban and it came in handy... stopped working today though... Doh!

  • 4x4 is better than awd aka Jeeps

  • @cag192 subarus are awd not jeeps(most of them)

  • @cag192 they have there own unique uses. and jeeps are 4X4, not AWD.

  • @FlightRecorder1 yes i know jeeps are 4x4, the way i said didnt come out right. I own a jeep cherokee anyway

  • subarus are terrible

  • @cag192 why is that?

  • @cag192 lol troll

  • this is awsome andf good exposure for the off-road comunity!!

  • That wouldn't happen to Subarus :)
