  • faroese is not a mix of danish and icelandic at all lol

  • @iceolator666 i think youre wrong and im faroese!

  • valk9dyson can you please change you description. this is just regular Faroese. the fact that you put "old" leads to awkward comments such as Sirsanje's

btw, the translation isn't rough at all. ; ) though Faroese in general is really hard to translate.

  • @aGeilini This is old Faroese. It's a "kvæði", and just by being a traditional "kvæði" means it's old Faroese. Have you ever heard anyone talk like this in "regular" Faroese? The words are old/archaic, and if you actually read "Blikimans kvæði" I'm pretty sure you won't understand all of it (I don't), however the grammar is modern, due to it being written down with the modern Faroese grammar. If you didn't know, "kvæði" were preserved in oral history, and only recently written down.

  • @aGeilini Also, Sirsanje's comment wasn't awkward - Old Faroese was a great descendant of Old Norse. It was more "pure" (true to its roots) than the current Faroese.

  • Comment removed

  • Old Faroese..... A great descendant of Old Norse. Too bad about Norn though. Favorite song by them.

  • Love them.

    Nice anyway, hail ^^

  • lol vikings made thier way to America too lol im in buffalo, new york and im a descendant of Eric the Red father of Leaf Erickson

  • That's uh, Leif Eriksson, thanks...

    Also, Hail! From Canada!

  • haha i would put Leaf! im a dumbass i know lol thnx

  • Aves,try leif

  • even I spell Leif L e I f

  • no that would the east coast, aves..And the Indians kicked the vikings out of america

    Because of Milk

  • only because there were vastly outnumbered, they were only a raiding force not invasion force.

The vikingr just kicked arse tho lol

  • they were far from being "only a raiding force"... To teach you some history, the Vikings (danes mostly) conquered most of england, only failing at taking out england´s strongest kingdom, Wessex.

  • To teach you some history, i was talking about Leif Ericsson's exploration into the americas. Not the nordic peoples in general.

And on england. Eventually, King Alfred of Wessex was able to confront and defeat the Vikings. His victory enabled him to establish terms for peace, though this did not put a complete stop to Viking activity which continued on and off for several more generations. Alfred had to concede northern territories to the vikings. but they were reconqured by alfreds succesors.

  • ahh, sorry bout that.. And on England, you pretty much sum up what´s worth mentioning.

    My apologies :)

  • not to worry dude its nice to have an intellectual debate for once lol

  • @martindo11 i have to agree that they were not only a raiding force, but they were still heavily outnumbered

  • now imagine if there were a shit load of them! would they kick ass? probably not. a bigger group of people is much more likely to fail... (america...troy...) lol

  • its not that a larger force is likely to fail but the incompitance of the leader and their large heads, they see a smaller force and instead of applying the correct tactics they run straight on, look at the romans Took them a while to be beaten, they always attacked in large numbers its all about the correct leader. but yeh America do suck but what ya gonna do lol.

  • saw these 02/05/09 Opening for Alestorm at Peterborough

    they were fucking immense

  • opening? weren't they headlining?

  • well they played before alestorm so i guess that makes them the support act =P

  • this is a great song, one of the best fomr tyr I think... it´s a great language whith loats of history, jsut fantastic.

  • idiot..

  • that's because at the very end (which you're most likely referring to) it IS several old guys singing:

albert and martin djurhuus (brothers, i think), back in the 60s, recorded the faroese ballad of "Grimur Á Miðalnesi", the story of Grimur Kamban, the first viking to land on the Faroe Islands (according to legend). the "chorus" of "Wings of Time" is from that song: Týr sings all of it except the very end, where the Djurhuus bros. are singing it.

  • sorry Valk9Dyson, i just have to comment about the part in description, where you say it is hard to translate because it is in "old Faroese". there is no such thing, maybe there is a "old fashioned way of wrighting Faroese" but not in a sense that it hard to understand, by people who know.

  • hehe, I have no idea...

  • "by people who know Faroese."

    was what i ment.

  • saw Týr live last night, amazing show
