  • WHAT IS THE SONG IN THE VIDEO, BTW GREAT BRO TIP

  • whats the song in this video

  • Whats the music playing in the video?

  • I was an awesome Ultimate Frisbee Blacksmith, but then I took a Hammer to the knee.

  • Brodieeeeeeee........... you are freakin EEEEEEPIIIIIIIC :)

  • If you are doing the Frisbee Trick Shot Challenge I would watch this!

  • I can throw the hammer ok but it wobbles and it wont go far

  • i much force do you put in a hammer

  • P.E. ultimate frisbee for two days only... my team won 16 - 3. This was before I watched you. now we played a few days ago and we won 23 - 5. Hmm....

  • My hammer is amazing because of you. I tore up gym class

  • i really love to throw a hammer its the best throw i know thanks for the video

  • he would fuck shit up in TRON

  • what gram frisbee do you use?

  • Damn, and I thought I would finally learn how to properly throw that blunt object called a hammer...

  • Thumbs if in the video you were like.. JUST THROW IT ALREADY !!!

  • What is the song Brodie uses at the start and end of his videos called?

PS. Some sick throws going on there.

  • two things:

    1) when i throw a hammer i do all of the instructions you said...and the throw does works

but not too far distance about 20-30 yards maximum..what is the missing element that would let me hit the frisbee X5 times further like those guys at the end of the vid...?? please let me know :S

    2) your really good...how long you have been playing this game?

  • Brodie, I just started throwing the frisbee and I have to say I love it. But it seems like when you throw this the disc is going upside down. Am I just not seeing this correctly or is this how it is supposed to happen?

  • @MrEvilCake It's supposed to do that.

  • Like a how to

  • Can you show us some trickshots people can do

  • hey thanks for all ur tips bro, help me out alot

  • @brodiesmith21

i don't really play ultimate that much, i'm more of a frisbee golf type person. but do any of the bro tips apply to that same playing style?

  • @brodiesmith21 I followed these tips, went outside today, and I've never thrown a hammer as good before. Thanks so much for the tips dude.

  • Hey Brodie, my hammers are really good when i throw them without turning them over, but when i try to turn it over i feel like im trying too hard and i mess up. It's hard for me to turn a frisbee over and make it accurate. Any Tips??? Thanks

  • @FlyByeFilms just be relaxed when you throw, nothing bad can come out of being a bit relaxed. if you try to hard you will usually do something wrong.

  • @cooliodom12 Thx

  • what are the best type of frisbees to get for doing trick shots and ultimate frisbee

  • when I clicked this video I thought I was going to be taught how to through a real hammer. like a hammer that puts nails into stuff... disappointed

  • thank you brodiesmith but i still need to practice the grip cause when i flick my wrist beetween ng thumb and pointer finger hurts.....but this video helps a lot on how i should throw it right to be accurate and positions and how the frisbee should fly thank you very much....

  • @brodiesmith21 When I throw my hammer it curves to the right, but after that it curves to the left. I was just wondering if that is a bad thing, if it is what can I do to prevent this.

  • You would be one HELL of a pitcher

  • Is there a such thing as a best starter frisbee?

  • Everytime I try and do this, the frisbee always flattens out halfway through the throw and doesn't give me the curve that I want. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

  • but can he throw a reverse hammer

  • Hey one question. Are there different types of frisbees that might not be able to use hammer or is it that every frisbee is able?

  • Nvm it's suppose to be upside down!

  • I get the throw but when it's in the air it turns upside down. How do I stop that?

  • is there a name to the song at the end?

  • thanks man ! you really helped me !

  • I am going through all the videos, just so I can impress at the beach next summer. Forever alone.

  • @Reviar Hopefully you are not in Los Angeles because that would be illegal

  • @jesseoquist Thank god I'm a Swede ;)

  • So release above your head??

  • hey brodie i have a problem with my hammer throw whenever i throw it, it always wobbles can you please explain it to me :'(

  • @samboyadzu try using more wrist flick and less arm. Practice with shorter distances to get the solid flight and build up from there.

  • what is the college wieght of a frisbee cuz i have one and its 175 grams

  • @TheOakman19 175g discraft is the official disc... you won't really find another disc anywhere near an ultimate field.

  • What's the song name? And BTW you're awesome!

  • Brodie Smith, my hero

  • so I had the hammer down at about 30 yards accurate consistent than all of a sudden i throw it and it just stays vertical to the ground the whole way and lands on the rim... what can cause this?

  • @lax8196 try throwing the disc with more a different angle to the ground. Like flatter would be best

  • hey brodie....whenever i toss a hammer the frisbee scraps my first knuckle on my index finger, slowing the amount of spin on the frisbee...how do i toss the frisbee so it does not rub against my knuckle?

  • @mwWIInerd314159265 If I were to guess, you're probably using a Wamo or a "frisbee" which have a sharper rim. Discs, by Discraft have a more curved rim which will probably prevent the rubbing. I can always tell when I pick up a wamo... just buy a discraft :)

  • At my high school practice I ended a scrimmage with a game winning hammer the full length... I didn't want to seem like a douchebag but they were in a zone defense and it was the only way to get it over everyone.

  • please change the intro music its so annoyinggggg please... except for that nice vids ;)

  • Is there a way you could send me a florida gator's frisbee/disc plz? i dont have one and really really want one.

  • Hammer's best !

  • question. I throw overhand with my left hand but i do backhand and forehand with my right hand.. does that matter? seems like if your playing ultimate then this isn't very good

  • he looks like Brett Gardner

  • this guy is so bro

  • Thanks Man! you got better explaining than other people

  • Why don't you want to have your wrist cocked before the top of your motion? I always have it cocked when I start and it seems to work ok. What does not cocking it do to make it better?

  • @tomatoesnut cause in iltimate u need to fake te offposition out an only throwing one type of throw will never workTRUST ME I PLAY

  • In what situations would you throw a backhand, forehand, or hammer. I am what are the advantages of each? Why can't you just throw one throw?

  • @TomatoesNut It all comes down to the mark. If you're only throwing one throw, I'm going to shut that down and make you throw another that you're not so comfortable with. The choice of throw comes down to a number of factors, but the direction of the cut and the force of the defense are most important.

  • so, I'm starting to get distance on my hammer but I'm having a little problem. as the frisbee is descending, sometimes it turns over the way and changes directions. what's the reason for this and how can I fix it?

  • @Andrewcunningmusic thats known as the double helix hammer...you have to angle the disc more vertically on release to make sure it doesn't do that...but for long hammers its sometimes ok for a double helix

  • can someone tell me why every time i throw a hammer it wobbles a whole ton

  • @sonicboom592 Put more spin. Flick harder at the end similar to how you through a flick.

  • @UltimateGuy33 ok so i have been flicking harder at the end and it seems like the harder i flick the more the wobble any tips?

  • Those throws at the end were SICK!

  • So, i switch hands for different types of throws..i know its bad but its just more comfortable + they are more accurate and sturdy with the accompanying hand, Backhand Righty / Flick Left / Hammer Left..i figure i should pick a hand i just dont know which one is more important to have, flick or backhand..Also, i notice you dont take a step when you hammer..is there a reason for that?

  • @ishue i generate all my power from my upper body...no need for me to really use my lower body...but taking a step forward will help you get more distance

  • Good videos. Easy to understand. But in a game there is going to be called a travel on the last throw for sure. even if it's too close to call, that motion with your leg is enough for alot of players to call it on.

  • for some reason i expected him to throw a real hammer. lol

  • Hey, Anyone know a website where i can get a GOOD frisbee or a custom jersey? Thanks!

  • WHAT IS THE NAME ON THE SONG WITH THE VIOLIN

  • @esbenejar /watch?v=EyhDGhA9bjU

  • @brodiesmith21 the man :D

  • I can't throw it far :( I try to and then it fails to go more than like 15 yards...

  • Thanks for everything so far.

Main problem I have: I always throw the hammer short of my target, even if the target is closer than the farthest distance I know that I can throw it.

Secondary problem: I can't throw it probably more than 40 yards.

    any tips?

  • @aamidjaythreepointoh can you send me a video of you throwing it?

  • @brodiesmith21 Ever have a full rotation into an S when throwing the hammer? I think it's impossible from a physics standpoint but if you have enough velocity it might be able to? I've gotten close in disc golf sometimes.

  • @requiemforacloud dont think so

  • @aamidjaythreepointoh For long hammers it helps to lean away from the shoulder you are throwing it on, so you can put more arm into it. It also helps you put lower body into it. This will make it have a lower release.

  • My disk does some weird things when I try to throw a hammer. I'm right-handed, so when I first throw it, the disk breaks from left to right like normal, but then after a little bit it turns over and starts to break from right to left. It's also very wobbly. I know that snapping my wrist more will help with the wobbles. Will that help with making it break correctly also?

  • @wackNLR2003 slightly but the angle of the disc at release will help you more...try throwing the disc more vertical

  • how come when i throw the hammer it's very wobbly ?

  • @mywomanisbig probably has to do with you not snapping your wrist and forearm enough. Really work on that snap and that will help generate spin you will need to have a great flying disc.

  • LOVE the hammer!!!! something about it.. SO cool! ;) thx!

  • Are those cleats really designed for ultimate? Cause the only one I know of is the Gaia Strike cleat. If it is, could you tell me what is it?

  • @krakatawa1 no but the nike carbon flywire are the best cleats i have ever tried

  • @brodiesmith21 oh, I'll try them out when I got some cash

  • "He's one of my favorite target to throw a hammer to" (4:22) thought this was funny :P

  • When I throw it, it goes out the just floats down. Am I exaggerating the angle too much or something?

  • @MinnesotaVikingz so its floating down to slow? is that what your saying?

  • @brodiesmith21 yeah, it floats down to slow. It gives everyone a chance to catch up.

  • @MinnesotaVikingz try throwing it more vertically...if you want to take a video of you throwing we wouldn't mind taking a look at it

  • Comment removed

  • @brodiesmith21 If that doesn't help, I'll try to make one. Thanks for all the help! Your videos are great.

  • is that a 180 gr frisbee?

  • @FrankCarnation 175g

  • I keep having the same problem, if i throw it, it just turns over :o

  • Nice cock.

  • it is a tennis serve

  • Any opinions on what to do with the legs?

I've been thought to move my other leg (I'm left-handed so my left leg) backward and on the release point my arm and leg should have a somewhat straight line. I find this extremely awkward.

My current technique now is lifting the left leg in the air, bending somewhat to the right and landing the foot over to my right side. It might look a bit like throwing a javelin in terms of the position. Any +/- with those compared to your near "static" position?

  • @Lerkki To be honest I have seen the most different types of variations when it comes to the the lower body. So I would honestly say do what works best for you. For me thats being kind of static but using a lot of torque in my hips and core. Its an awkward motion to start with because when throwing a ball with your left hand your taught to step forward with your right foot. And in frisbee left handlers right foot is their pivot foot. So just do what comes natural and is comfortable to you.

  • you should do a video with a set of advanced throws to give people ideas. not as much explain how to do them, but showcase a bunch of advanced throws (e.g. thumber, staker, scoober, etc.)

  • @boombox129 i like the idea...what is the staker?

  • @brodiesmith21 I believe it's where you grip the rim of the frisbee right-side up with thumb on the inside and index on the outside, and then use your thumb for leverage and throw it from you neck...if that makes sense. Also, a video with basic catches and trick catches would be awesome.

  • @boombox129 haha ok i will try and wrap my head around that one and see if i can do it

  • @brodiesmith21 could you also do something explaining the airbounce and skip (on the ground) throws?

  • @boombox129 you got it! on the list! thanks for the suggestion!

  • Could you do a video on throwing and catching in the wind and rain?

  • @dude7597 throwing vids are up!

  • no wonder my OSU coaches dont like you, youve got perfect throws! great vid, thanks for the tips!!

  • Hey brodie, i dont know how much you use the grenade throw, but you should give a video on it, it can be very useful if people know how it works.

  • @tadisc alright u got my interest...what is it?

  • @brodiesmith21 im trying to find a youtube video or something that does it justice but im not having any luck. some people hold the disc like a scooby and others (like myself) hold it different. if you make a fist with your thumb inside your fingers, you put the disc between your pointer and middle finger, with the lip of the disc behind the forepart of your thumb. then to throw it you wanna bring your disc through backhand like your trying to swing a golf club at your feet. The bottom of

  • @tadisc Yea im curious!

  • @brodiesmith21 of the disc should be facing away from you. aim higher than it seems you should, then release. the disc will have a back spin, and if you throw it hard with a good snap you can get the disc to turn out of it and fly to your right (if your right handed). honestly there may be another term for the throw, but i dont know. i call it a grenade. if i find time a might make a video of it and post it. let me know if you figure out the throw though.

  • Hey Brodie, is there any pivoting in this throw? In your video it looks like you're getting the power from the shoulder and hip rotation but is there any pivoting or stepping out for this throw? Like when your throwing right hand flick you step out with your right foot and throw it, but do you do anything like this for the hammer? It always seems like I have awkward footing when throwing this.

  • @AbSoluteZeWoah With the hammer you want to do what comes natural for you. So i wouldn't say there is a right and wrong way of pivoting. Feel it out and do what works best. For me I don't really move my right foot that much but it also depends on the type of hammer

  • @brodiesmith21 yeh a video on the disc flying out to the left and curve back would be great! thanks alot, i would appreciate it alot

  • @Prozakk08 will do

  • @brodiesmith21 like when i throw my hammer it doesnt go out to my left and curve in, and it turns over sooner and looses alot of speed. so what im asking is how to get the disk to go out to my left and curve back? thanks alot

  • @Prozakk08 It sounds like when your releasing the disc it isn't vertical enough. By changing that it will help from having the disc turn over. Try that and see if that helps the disc from turning over.

Now with regards to having the disc fly out to the left and curve back. That deals with my arm motion. Too hard to explain just in writing. Would you like a video on that?

  • Put up a thumber video please.

  • @diploitalian The THUMBER! you got it

  • @brodiesmith21 hey great vid, watched it about 3 times now, but now when im applying thoses skills my shot doesnt come out to side as much and flips over sooner and travels straight, i was wondering if u had any advice to fix that thx

  • @Prozakk08 Explain that to me again. Sorry I don't really understand what your asking.

  • Song at the end?

  • why am i watching this?

  • @GJGERDES maybe because you want to know how to throw a hammer?

  • yo what is this beattttttt in the vidd

  • @carsonblakechris The beat was created by a friend... trying to get him to upload it. Sorry for the wait

  • what is the beat in this vid

  • Out of curiousity I notice in all your videos you shake your wrist as you get ready to throw. Is there a helpful reason for this?

  • @SMGK32 Idk its like my pre-wag before a golf shot

  • @brodiesmith21 lol i feel you on that

  • Do you think it would be possible to make a video explaining how to low release forehand and backhand please! i'm working on my low releases and i'm having trouble releasing it quickly and accurately.

  • @FlawlessPlay Both great throws in your arsenal. I will add it to the list.

  • Can you make a video about faking from backhand to forehand? I can fake from forehand to backhand, but the other way is a lot harder. Also how can we get some florida swag?

  • @bballdevil545 Florida Swag Competition is coming very soon. And A pivoting video is in the process of being editing.

  • Lol at like 5:10 ish, that hammer sure broke that cup :D great vid man, I was looking forward to this, passed my expectations.

  • And remember - HAND ON THE HIP when you catch!

  • I like the hammer highlights at the end.

  • Like your vids man. But can I look forward to a catching video? I know it sounds elementary, but I have a hard time catching difficult and fast throws. If you know any drills, practices, tips, or techniques you use for catching, it would be awesome to see them in a vid. Esp ones where you sky because I know you can catch one handed fast discs in the air. Thanks!

  • @mattyfattee Def!

  • I know you hit the weights a lot Brodie. What muscles do you suggest strengthening to add distance to hammers, flicks, and backhands once we have our fundamentals of form down?

  • @Youknowhubbard tri's, bi's chest, and back for the upper body. Also having a strong and flexible shoulder is great!

  • I love seeing Ted at the end of all the videos

  • lol, the title says Bro Tip 5, but the video says bro tip 4.

  • @TheSean228 Haha good catch! Didn't even see that. I did something pretty sneaky to fix it. See if you can figure it out lol.

  • Can you do some vids on strategies? Like how to beat a cup and stuff?

    great vid btw !

  • Favorite throw!!

  • Hey Brodie, really appreciate all the tips on improving throwing motion. Do you think that picking up your right foot when you are throwing your hammer is a problem that I should try to fix or should I keep doing it the same way?

  • @havone2 With the hammer I see some people pick up their right foot and some people keep it down. Do whatever comes natural because after playing around with it, for me it didn't change any part of my throw.

  • do you have notes about preventing the double helix hammer? most of my distance hammers (which i rarely throw because they suck) end up turning over and going the other way...

  • @gibsonsg0425 One thing you can check to see if your doing properly is the angle of the disc on the release. For big hammers (40 yards plus) you want the disc more vertical on release. So if the disc is double helixing like you say, you may want to tweak the angle a bit and release the disc more vertically.

  • greta vid, thanks
