  • Experts use already trained dogs. This is a problem. If you want to show this being really effective can you please go to someones house that requests help with their dog ot show it? You were tugging on his neck lightly to correct him when he was being good and you always talk about confusing the dog....aren't you confusing the dog?!

  • your dogs are probably trained, but mine is 1 and i give aquick tug but it trys to run off still. so i just say no and he understands no because i have taught not go near things by saying no

  • I hate how expertvillage ALWAYS uses dogs that are already trained.

  • Dogs don't ask dogs to sit they make them go into full submission. Which works against taking a dog for a nice walk. Dogs know we aren't dogs and ignore are attempts to emulate them. I know this first hand you'll just look stupid. A human growling doesn't have the same effect as a dogs growl.

  • This video is about a whole nother topic. Basically was showing end product of how to stop a dog from running ahead. It has nothing to dog with calming downa dog. The dog was already trained. I would to see one person got to a local shelter pick out a random dog witb no training and then show us a technique that works.

  • I suggest using a shotgun, works quick and it lasts.

  • Expertvillage lacks videos that actually have any experts in them. Usually bad advice all around...

  • i need help my dog (big) keeps jumping on me and is to wild to keep inside how do i make him more calm?

  • I have never seen a dog push on another dogs butt to get it to sit, actually I don't think that I have seen a dog that cares if another dog is sitting.

  • Wow... Tugging on a dogs neck. Great. So you teach the dog to be calm, by punishing him for nothing (he was just sitting down where you pushed him down anyway).

I really hate these phrases where trainers explain how dogs communicate to each other and why people must also push a dog down since dogs "dont talk to each other". First: NO dog ever orders another dog to sit (with words or otherwise) and second: YOU my dear man, are NOT a dog - nor is your body equipped to communicate like a dog.

  • Yes i agree. This video does not teach anyone anything! The dog has already been trained to be calm. It is important to show viewers how to calm a dog down as the video says!

  • ugh today my dad had the repair guy come over and my dog has to stay with me in the same room. he is throwing a really big fit! i have tied to let him relax on ym bed but he is just crazy! what should i do?

  • @TerraGarettt

Although you posted this a week ago, I have tips for you if he tries to do it again.

If he is a big dog, which I'm assuming, I've seen owners sit with their dogs, and hold them, gently stroking them to calm them. Playing might work too, especially if you use treats to calm him down.

When he is going crazy, you can ignore him, but when he is quiet and calm, give him a treat. He will eventually learn that if he is quiet and calm, he gets treats.

  • Video should be called "How to get your already calm dog who already knows how to sit, to sit near the front door".

  • @HerzogsShoe theoretically, if your dog is overly excited.. you nitwit.

  • My puppy just runs forward and wont stop on walks so the leash is always tight and i dont know how to get her to walk beside me

  • I just tell my dog to wait.. and he will wait until I call him again..

  • i have a 14 week old chocalate lab/pitbull mix hes extremely crazy and wild and snaps and bites hes been spayed but he just wont calm down and hes getting big fast any ideas on how to calm him and to get him to stop peeing and pooping in the house?

  • @silllywabbit im not sure how to stop all of its behavior but for peeing/pooping in the house take him on long walks until he pees/poops when he does give him a treat or reward him with a nice petting hope that helps

  • no, but you have to claim the 'couch' as yours, so if YOU want to sit down on the 'couch' then you can, after all you are the leader.

  • I guess they don't know the "stay off the couch" boundary.

  • @hannahunney if he lets his dogs on the couch that's his business.

  • What about if ypur dog is jumping about allover the place going absoluty mental, biting the lead and getting it rapped rouns his legs, the tug does nothing

  • @mattfox14 act very calm

  • my beagle is wierd the way i calm him down is get my mobile radio and puts KROQ its pretty funny

  • dogs can have fun they just have to be understood

  • why cant they use a untrained dog and train it??

    useless..

  • what if your dogs deaf and cant wear a leash coz it has a neck condition then what

  • then use a body harness

  • i don't use a leash I've tought my dog to wait on command and now she knows I always enter or exit any new area before her.

  • In the kennels we shut the door. We don't stress the leash at all, we shut the door fast, and the dog walks back. Each attempt to get up and we shut the door again. Until when we open the door, the dog stays perfectly still and waits for the person to walk out, before following.

  • its best to tug the dog sideways so he loses balance.. when tugging him feom the back you'll be just giving him more force to pull

  • That is true, but tugging up is the best techique, I've heard from many dogtrainers. It blocks them. :)

  • how can u tug a dog sideways properly if his pulling you?

  • you anticipate your dog before pulling ex(his ears stand up, hair stands up, dog looking all sides) then you tug him. if the dog did already pull you then you can tap in between his back legs to redirect his attention to you... a dog should never be infront of you atanytime so it would be easier for you toanticipate his moves and tug him otherwise if he was in front of you, it will be too late where he becomes the pack leader and it will harder for you to tug..

  • ever had the breed patterdale terrier? their hunting crazy and go at anything fury his allways on alert for something are strong dogs for their size. untill u can stop a dog of that breed come back to me.

  • are saying is that you can't so what your patterdale terrier dog?? i am a dog trainer and i can walk any dog any breed without going crazy due to the leadership and calm energy i release to the dog + if you cant control your type of breed on a walk than you can buy them a weight back pack so it could tire them quicker or even let them run on a treadmil for 30 min to release extra unwanted energy and then you can go on to your walk where you state your leadership on the dog.

  • so yeh i go buy a tredmill so my dog can run on it -.-.?you obviously have never handled this breed. come train my dog free of charge and ill reccomend you to everybody i know.

  • hi, my pug is about 7 months but is wild, and cant be calmed down when in our sitting room, its the only room he is crazy in, any ideas.
