Red Fishing Action Calaveras Lake Texas 2/2

Hello DNA, Can you share any specifics? I went out this weekend, hooked 4 big fish, but broke line each time, was great still,.not been out for 5 yrs, fished bottom in middle lake, no GPS, drifted. Went out to wall, did not know about, never owned a boat, finally have small 14 ft john with 40hp. I put new line on today, went up to 20 and 30 lb test. Do you only fish from top? Use leaders, length for float to hook, 5/0 hook? Best float, balloons? Could you email me @ shrekkun@yahoo.com?

@shrekkun new line for sure. I use 12-20# with 40# leaders. Egg sinker for bottom above a swivel, 18" to hook. I use smaller strong #3s and #4s. Find structure, middle of lake not too good. Rocks on shore, cheap foam float, 12-18" above hook. Freeline live bait at the wall or anywhere. Shrimp on bottom, cats in 4'-12" of water, Rocks best. Balloons about 4-12' above bait. I use 2oz egg sinker for balloons, Make balloon tear off when fish hits. Good Luck!

why dont you hook the tilapia through the nose like a live mullet?

@jared3925611 this is fresh water, I dont hook mullet thru th enose either, only at the coast. I hook them thru the tail cause the currant is going away from us, Im freelineing. I want that fish faceing away from me so it will keep the line tight. If I hooked the nose, he would swim right at me and under the wall.

we fish reds in ponds that have pipes that feed bate through. when the tide is rite those reds will pop schools of mullet and u cast in those and with a redhead and jig tail they will bite every time. we also get black drum and flounder that way

I do the same with silver spinners when the "boil". These are stocked in a fresh water lake!!!

yea right ur catching those red fish on blue gill thats hard to believe cause a fucking red cant even get that in his bloody mouth , i might believe it if u were fishing for cat fish, bass or barramundi

Those big perch catch big reds. My largest is 42" Believe what you want. A red will bite it in 1/2.

Good videos man.. I enjoy looking at them..I fish calaveras quite a bit.. I caught my biggest last year. 18 lb 38 inches..

Thats a good fish. Thats the same as my sons largest. I have a pic in my truck of a 42" that I got on balloon during a red tourny. I ws offered $100 for him. I threw him back in the lake. That was a $1000 fish!!! I wasn't in the tourny tho. Bigger ones have been seen crusing the wall.

that seems so easy we been there lots of times and we had no luck we tried tilapia shrimp and luers can you give me a tip looks like you know what you doing

Keep trying all your lures till you catch one. Try top water and under. Crank baits, storms, silver spoons. Hook one and the rest will follow. I drug a lure on the surface to triger strikes. They wouldn't hit anything under the water. They attacked anything over their heads. Fish 18hours strait. You'll catch one.
