Thanks for the memories, I've seen this group many times.This was Jonnny´s best quartet since he returned to the U.S.scene. And not too many people play with that energy and drive today.I miss both Griff and Ronnie...

@melsamba You know, I don't think they ever recorded this group. They made a video at Vanguard but it wasn't as good as the stuff here. But there was quite a few great groups back then- Dexter Gordon Quartet, George Coleman Quartet, Cedar Walton Quartet, Woody Shaw group, Sphere etc.

And now there's almost nothing to hear at the Jazz Festivals it's so commercial.

@vova47 Yeap, I reckon you're right... Such a pity.. and that's why I went to great length to publish these 4 videos here (did a lot of EQ and other tricks to try to get the best possible audio) so other people around this world could enjoy them as much as I do... You're absolutely right about the sheer jazzz quality which we lost in the last 30 years.. the moder "jazz" festivals lack the quality of the groups you've mentioned.. I had the pleasure of booking Johnny a number of times at a jazz club I had in Liverpool during the early - mid 70's. .... He played fast then as well!
