  • @xxsweetnsour49xx episode*** ♥

  • this was so Beautiful. such a wonderful episide. RIP Minnie you will Never be forgotten. ♥♥♥

  • Minnie Rippleton to this day has never been surpassed in her talent vocally. To have inspired artist like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston etc, long after her death is nothing short of extraordinary. Few people know she is in the Guinness book of records. There is a common thread in the music industry that, ”You can only guess what you think, the world wants to hear.” I think the fact that she was in an interracial marriage and that being exposed during her last two albums. RIP Minnie

  • She was before my time but I learned of her through my cool uncles album collection. My favorite song of hers was "Here we go".

  • When she was singing "Back Down Memory Lane", my soul was crying! I lost it! You just knew it was the end for her. Her voice was one of kind... Beautiful woman.

  • @he2tazzy4u I know the feeling i was devistated when she passed.i would take my allowance and on saturday go to this juke joint called ms.lillies, and spend practicallly all my money in the juke box

  • Beautiful music made by a beautiful woman!

  • How sad. But, we still have the sound of her angelic voice. She was blessed because she was loved. RIP.

  • Oh man. I'm in tears. I love Minnie so much. This doc made me love her even more. She was a special, special person...I hope to see her in Heaven!

  • Never knew Mya rudolph was her daughter, Mya was in the movie " Bridesmaid" Awesome movie!

  • @shesodior Doesn't Maya look just like her?

  • @manyek thanks for this fantastic upload. It was a joy to watch. Cheers.

  • It's a bless to watch this documentary! Great artist and a true blueprint for lots of today's singers as well. Amazing !!

  • Wow what a wonderful documentary!! Gonna look up more of her music now!! Thanks Mrs Riperton for making me further respect this life and the little things!!!

  • Maya was the cutest : )

  • MINNIE KNEW MY AUNT ROSALEE THEY USED TO PLAY CARDS TOGETHER ALL THE TIME HER AND MY AUNT WAS REAL GOOD FRIENDS WHEN THEY WERE TEENAGERS LOL.I FEEL GOOD KNOWING THAT MINNIE HUNG OUT WITH MY FAMILY TRUE STORY MINNIE IS FROM THE CHI

  • Well, God has himself one helluva an angel serenading him...to Richard and the Riperton family...God Bless

  • I want to know why Shanice Wilson was not on here..she has the same range & more talent then any of these wannabees out here.

  • @shydmples Probably because no one has ever heard of her.

  • @andenisa lol..trust me...Shanice is well-known...at 14 (1987) she had a very nice album...along with other follow-up albums. But then again...I guess not a lot of people know of her...only of Beyonce unfortunately...lol

  • @shydmples I know who she is, and I agree, she's a very talented artist. But she just didn't get any air-time, so that's why I say no one has heard of her.

  • @andenisa People have heard from her..she has sold some nice albums...but she's "Unsung".

  • @andenisa Chante Moore is another who is pretty close in range to Minnie, but also very underrated (in my opinion), many of my friends who are older than I am didn't even know she could sing in the whistle register.

  • i always find it funny that people always categorize rock music to be a white thing when rock music came from black people so did jazz

  • Way too soon... She will always live through her music and the love of her family and fans like me... She really was a BLESSING, pure beauty and raw talent... That's how I identify her.. As Stevie said: she is a perfect angel... I'm so moved by the eternal love for her in Richard's eyes..

    We love you Minnie

  • What an inspiration, she was.

  • One of the girls in "The Gems" looks just like Aretha Franklin @5:59 on the right, but it can't be....

  • @porgynbess I agree. I swear I alway thought the same thing. Just like Aretha. Amazing....

  • @porgynbess i thought the exact same thing..uncanny resemblance.

  • beautiful, sensitive angel that came to us for a short while, wow thanks for posting this video

  • OMG!! OMG!! OMG!! Thanks for this. This is my FAVORITE episode!!

  • @itsmissvsworld Mine Too. Love Minnie Riperton...

  • Love her & her music! Besides 'Lovin You' I am in love with her songs 'Inside my Love' & Adventures in Paradise' -3 rest in peace Perfect Angel' (:

  • In the beginning Mariah Carey came close, but ...

  • I've learned many lessons today. R.I.P Mrs Rudolph.

  • I am only 16, and wow, she is the most powerful and beautiful woman I have ever seen and ever WILL see..... her voice, her personality was just lovely, what a gorgeous spirit !

  • Beautiful woman; beautiful voice. Amazing, but terribly sad tale from a great series, "Unsung". I for one will be delving deeper into her music, beyond "Loving You".

  • So sad!

  • Damn! that's bad for a singer to be recognized as a "Blah!" lmao! Minnie Ripperton was beautiful, a real talent, well known and appreciated in the Chi.....man do I miss her, seems all the PERFECT ANGELS leave too early......R.I.P. Minnie Ripperton

  • Love your music! And you will always be missed Soror! R.I.P. Dove love Soror!

  • Thankyou Manyek for posting such an epic story !!

  • this really moved me , my mother died of cancer , she was a strong woman

  • Heartbreaking. She really loved her children, you could tell. The program left out her singing Mya to her daughter in "Loving you."

  • Wow! Minnie and Richard really shared a TRUE LOVE

  • Has anyone else noticed that so many of the 'Unsung' documentary subjects are Black...

  • @juliusmaloney That's because "Unsung" is on TV One- a cable station that's geared toward Black people.

  • @MyJunior1975 Cheers for the info. I realized this when I went looking to see what other artists the series covered, being from Australia hadn't heard of this series at all. But I did learn about the Clark Sisters & Melba Moore & Miss Ripperton so whoever the original audience, I'm glad I got an opportunity to hear some great music!

  • @MyJunior1975 noooooo. its b/c a lot black artist didnt get the crdit that was due

  • @MissTia1680 He asked about why there was so many Black artists that were on "Unsung", and it's primarily due to the fact that the show was on TVOne. Outside of Teena Marie, there were no White artists profiled on the show. You are aware that TVOne is a network that's owned and operated by Black people, right?

  • @MyJunior1975 actually tv one is owned by comcast which is owned and operated by White people. They have creative control over what is played also. Tv one is suppose to be a channel geared at the minority audience , so aside from what i said prior they are going to showcase more R&B artist.

  • @juliusmaloney because a lot of black artist didnt gett he credit they deserved. because thry were black

  • I have just discovered Minnie... Thank you for posting... Thank you so very much, beautiful voice!

  • she had a lovely voice and to hit that whistle register wow.

  • She seemed like a wonderful mother and person

  • beautiful

  • Beautiful!!!!

  • Why are so many singers who could actually SING [as an artform] UnSUNG??? I'll refrain saying much of today's artists, but they often site these same UnSung artists as inspiration because of their talent; yet they still somehow missed most of the accolades, rewards, notariety that todays 'performers' (I refuse to say singers, because many can't sing) are reaping. Artists like Minnie were known in smaller circles, but couldn't bridge the larger charts - yet today it can be done w/ minimal talent.

  • and the onnes of today who are artful singers with true voice are not nearly as popular on major charts. You still have to search and 'dig' to find their music and hope they stay around long enough (after enduring lower album sales than lesser talented counterparts who have 'faddish' marketing teams) in order to really enjoy and grasp their music. I so afraid that the great singers of today will be the next UnSung artists of tomorrow....

  • Marvin, Tammi, Minnie, Michael. great talent gone to soon

  • The documentary was touching. They should have featured singer Shanice Wilson, who remade her classic Loving You twice as well as Mariah Carey and Chante Moore who were influenced by her.

  • I would love to see an episode featuring Stephanie Mills

  • It was a touching piece, I did not know Maya Rudolph was her daughter. I love her Whitney impression, now I see where Maya got her wit.

  • It was a touching piece, I did not know Maya Rudolph was her daughter. I love her Whitney impression, not I see where Maya got her wit.

  • The evil people live longer and die harder, yet beautiful souls like Minnie whither away so quickly and delicately like beautiful and fragile spring blossoms... but the essence, the scent of your spirit lingers on through time. A legacy...

  • I cried like a baby watching this. jeeez

  • Was It in God's will ? But why God ? Why didn't you create us perfect ? Why create us for us to to die in a unhealthy matter. And leave our love's one's when they need's us.God let me keep the faith in your will.

  • I remember Minnie! I have her last album and it is outstanding! She was truly a gift from God. I'm glad her family continues her amazing legacy.

  • I was a little boy in Chicago when I heard on the radio that Ms. Riperton passed away. I remember my parents being very sad and playing her records throughout the day. I couldn't quite understand it at the time, but as I grew older I realized what a terrible loss it was. In my heart, I light a candle to the memory of an incredible human being.

  • You can tell her husband really loved her and still does to this day.

  • Such a beautiful lady.

  • Minnie Riperton was special & so his this documentary. What a moving tribute... to a rare talent.

  • Maya Rudolph is one of the most talented comics that Saturday Night Live ever had and I believe her mama would be very, very proud of her!...Miss you Minnie!

  • i remember the summer she died. i had just discovered her, on the radio. they played her music from dawn to dusk and then all over again. in death she lived more than any of us.

  • MORE! MORE! MORE! LOL!

  • thanks for putting up these videos. Givin u mad props. I've heard and known about most if not all of these artists but now I finally get the chance to hear their story from the them and the ppl closest to them. Music documentaries are the best documentaries to watch

  • Surely one of the finest singers the world has ever seen.

Gone too soon. Love you Minnie.

  • The more I watch this the more I have a deeper appreciation for the special individual Minnie Ripperton was. Not just her singing but her courage in dealing with cancer. R.I.P Minnie Ripperton & God Bless!!
