I don't know the lead guitarists name but him and the Chisel's guitarist are absolute legends.Hell, nearly every song in the 80's featured brilliant guitar work.
when we told our production company we were taking the band into a condemned building with huge holes in the floor they took out about 10 million bucks in insurance for the day!....also my daughter Nina was born about 2 hours before the shoot so it was a special day indeed!...Chris Worrall [of Lofven Worrall productions}

Poor Aussie Crawl- they really should have made it big throughout the world, but looking at this video and you see why. It's not the fact that James Reyne has poor diction, but more the fact he lacked intensity. Here is a song that could have been intense, but the front man decides to act like a walk in the park. I hope the newer Australian bands watch and learn from this; Don't let your front man go off on an ego trip!
That's an interesting observation... I just saw it was a group of guys playing in a warehouse back in 1982. You are right - it does need a little more boost and intensity. I also don't get why Guy didn't sing on more tracks, seeing as he did so well with 'Oh No Not You Again' and 'Errol'... I wish they made it worldwide... perhaps your comment reveals a little as to why it wasn't the case.
I actually think that the video clip is perfect for the song. IMHO, it suits the song perfectly. The clip lets the song speak for itself, by allowing us to focus on what Reynes is singing. It shows the band as having a great time just jamming.
@DixieFlatline78 I also enjoy watching the video... infact, I think band performance videos are quite often the best. Who needs models, scripts, famous actors, special effects, etc? I think this clip pretty much captures a moment that will no longer be...
hey the music and lyrics were agreed to be good. but mike chapman warned them that unless their lyrics could be interpreted by the yanks they wouldn't make it into the U.S music scene. this thesis proved right. i'm flat out personally making out the lyrics in most of their songs. luckily for me i know them, and they're great lyrics. just sux that the rest of the world didn't gain exposure to their music.
@lovezmuzic2 Agree with you. This band were high in the charts constantly in Australia and deserved to be heard in America. Are you aware though that it is very hard for Australian acts to break into the American market? Radio stations over there can be very cruel. Silly really.
Australian Crawl were/are awesome. James Reyne has one of those sexy voices and they were and still are the best we ever produced..I remember when they were on Countdown the first time and James had his 2 broken arms, I thought he was sexy then..We rock us Aussies.. :)
@lovezmuzic2 A lot of Aussie music was played on early US music-video shows and MTV, during its early days...
I don't know why Aussie Crawl failed everywhere else. They wrote great songs, a good-looking lead singer and the tragic-tortured artist Guy McDonough. I guess you're proof that it couldn't have worked.
@danko1969 Absolutely agree, even if James was a total dick, no one deserves that treatment...BTW, I'm an aussie bloke who grew up in Maroubra NSW and now sitting in my room, Buckinghamshire UK, preparing my uni thesis with the wife and kids down stairs...really miss Aus.
@Westyrulz Yea definitely. Living in the UK makes you appreciate the beauty of Oz. The weather, the food the beaches and most of all the true blue Aussie spirit.
@5150VanAlien HEY!! Agree totally! I was 13 when this came out - I LOVED this band - I wish this music was appreciated more but alas.... btw, i'm a Maroubra bloke living in Athens ;-)
@nrith Yasoo Levendi! After 9 years in London, this Maroubra boy has come back (actually now in Hurstville!) Hope you're enjoying Athens and listening to this great track at the same time. The Greek economy maybe shite but at least 80s home grown music is there for us to enjoy and reminisce.
listening to this in manchester, thinking of home where I hear it's 44 degrees. i could do with being down on the penisula right now. did i mention it's snowing...
Yeah James was always a smug bugger -> Glad to hear he got a beer can in the head....LOL!!!! Should get ya mate to do it to his brother on live tele too.....moo haww harr :)
Lived in Aussie in the 80's, Aussie Crawl were the best!! Brings back a lot of memories to see them again. Did'nt get to see James Reyne sing live till 2003 when i revisted,Great video.
80s aussie rock was awsome my mate sent me a vid called australia now when he emigrated wish i still had it!!! any of you aussie cuzs know the track listings?
No. The bar in The Coogee Bay Hotel. Stayed open till 3 in the morning every day. Had a big screen and showed lots of stuff like that, Crawl, Chisels etc. Used up all my sickies because of that pub!
This is the best cure for homesickness put on youtube and listen to some great Aussie 80s music, transports me from Wales back to Sydney and i'm in the Horden Pavillion rocking away to those great 80s bands.Would someone please invent a time machine Please
This is such a great track and I listen to Swedish metal. You can really hear the use of the melodic minor key. Catchy, with hooks and sounds awesome. I'm a Sydney guy now living in the UK and listening to this takes me back to Countdown...bring back Molly Meldrum
Worked in a wanky cocktail bar in Balmain in the 90s and was thrilled when James came up to the bar for a drink. The young barmaid said, "You`re famous, aren`t you??" to which he smiled graciously. She went on, "Yeah, you host that Getaway show, I love it." I shouted something like "That`s his fucking brother!" but James just chuckled and walked back to his mates with his drinks. Absolutely no ego problems there, very amusing.
saw james a feww eeks ago still sounds just as good, you wankers thinking he was on drugs, he is one of the fittest blokes of his age i have seen, he is ripped and looks unbeleivable.
My favourite band from the 70's and 80's; I loved Aussie Crawl.
It's very sad when you consider Guy McDonough and Brad Robinson, both founding members of the band, died very young. Guy was only 26 and Brad 38. Simon Binks is permanently incapacitated as a result of a car accident. There's certainly been a jinx for this great band, but it's great to see James Reyne still going strong.
He's a great singer/songwriter, a true Aussie great.
Guy didn't join till 80-81 somwthing like that. He wasn't a founding member but he was a big part for a couple of years. Its a real shame, he was very talented.
Love it!
