  • First time I hear about that band... this is very nice

  • Earnest !!!!

  • This is art of simplicity minimalism good voice and characterful music try to find words for it but im lost sorry just listen it again and again Im hooked.

  • Just saw them at guildford cathedral, where they were supporting Laura Marling. So so so so so amazing!

  • @booliesaurus saw them at gloucester cathedral on the same tour!!! Sooo incredible x

  • The British Fleet Foxes.

  • their concert in Dranouter was AWESOM <3

  • This is a great band but I like sons of Noel and Adrian more (and yes before somebody corrects me I know this band has some of the same people that are in sons of Noel and Adrian) because the have more rhythm and a they sometime make you feel more involved in the song , also the lead singer doesn't look like Frodo

  • I first heard this on the Radcliffe & Maconie Show, on BBC Radio 2 a few years ago. Personally, I think this is the most beautiful song ever created. I like bandstand version too.

  • Great ! Shame on me I only discovered this band on the radio last weekend. Very emotional song. Thanks to Neil Youngs Only love could brake your heart I could remember some parts of the melody. Genious ! Chords anyone ?

  • @JeanCoquille Thought that as soon as I heard it, reminded me of Neil's classic. Lovely song

  • I have just discovered this song on Dermot o Leary's Saturday Sessions album and I can't stop listening to it, it's beautiful.

  • thanks NME

  • I love the use of a classical guitar. You don't see people experimenting with guitar mediums every day.

    Lovely song.

  • First elfish band I found on youtube. As it takes all kinds of music to make a world, I decide to be enchanted and not ashamed at all. And not cool.

  • fantastic

  • mesmirizer

  • i adore the Leisure Society......and they are amazing live!

  • how has this passed me by??it`s sweetly magnificent.there`s a divine comedy flavour to it that I really appreciate.so nice to hear something with a simplistic beauty.

  • love it!!

  • superbe nouveau dans cette ère des Dj qu on vie, de la belle musique dans la ligner de tous ce qui est britannique, j aime beaucoup, bon courage a eux

  • Saw you in Positivus festival in Latvia/Salacgrīva - this was the only song i knew, but the concert was still amazing - thank you and i hope you'll return next year (:

  • Really fine song. Gets better the more you hear it.

  • Nice stuff.

  • one of the nicest songs ever!!!

  • gay.

  • @Aknelis55 So what if it is?

  • I never heard of these before and theyre quite good.Sounds really old fashioned but nice old fashioned.

  • darren bonehill is my teacher :D

  • as good as it gets

  • This is so lame - talk about boring and tuneless.

  • Oooh, I like it a lot :):):)

  • hauntingly beautiful!!!

  • added to my favs...:)))

    a wonderful sound !!!!

  • endless stars***** :))

    a wonderful share !!!

  • 5 stars...nice one

  • Nice Share! 5*s Great Post...:))

  • sooooooo amazing, wonderful!

  • It reminds me of Crosby, Stills and Nash in a way with a sprinkle of John Denver but hey, I still like it in it`s own right.

  • Sounds a little bit like the young Donovan...

  • I heard this song on the radio at work sometimes, and now I have found it thanks to you! I find it so incredibly good as it is so charming real with such good harmonies on the rhythm of the English Walz...Great!

  • thank you for this, it makes me dream away, so beautiful!

    please come to Milan!

  • sounds like only love can break your heart by Neil Young.

  • yes

  • I'm a little surprised my comment appears to have been unpopular - did I write something unreasonable?

  • and where are the others, Manuel, Jonas, ..all the cousins?I would love to meet you all as soons as possible.

  • Gabriel, What should I do with an old facsimile that I got about middle crises...???????

  • Beautiful song. But, i hope you don't mind me saying that the video isn't good.

  • The song is beautiful and just because the video is artfully directed doesnt make it bad. The band are all from simple backgrounds and the video represents this superbly. I love it

  • If you haven't yet, check out their cover of Something. It's available on the current issue of MOJO. Jewel of the disc as far as I'm concerned.

  • my dad bought the issue, it's bout the beatles :D

  • What a great song, the LS really are a unique sounding band, lovely melody, smart lyric, beautiful performance, love them.......

  • blatspanner if this song makes you feel gay maybe you need to face up to your fears and get out there?

'Seems most other people just thought it was a great song (me included).

    :) always use a condom.

  • @blatspanner Why do you closet cases admit youre gay on YT.I mean blatspanner gggggay is blowing your cover a little dont ya think huh?DUCKS!XD

  • @pablogeebee1 well i'm not a closet case. out and proud, six years now.

  • @blatspanner Ha,ha,okay then why are ya calling a song gay?I thought that was anti gay!

  • @pablogeebee1 gay as in weak, lame, limp, ineffectual, spineless, not gay as in flaming,queer,fagotronic,shirt-lifting,bum-loving or nancy-esque.

  • @blatspanner Wow,fancy words!Actually I am sick of this song already,I guess it is almost as ''gay'' as you said,ha,or I should say ggggay!!!!!

  • @blatspanner You missed a word out- beautiful, something you wouldn't understand.

  • why people feel the need to argue i dont know. Its just your opinion and NOTHING ELSE!

My opinion of this song and its for the band only, is that its beautiful- did you get your novello? xxx

  • This is gorgeous. I heard them on a podcast of 'Loose Ends', a BBC Radio 4 program. This is the best song I've heard for at least a year. I'm buying the album for my mum.

  • I heard them on that show too. I think they were introduced as having been nominated for an Ivor Novello award (an award for songwriting) for this song. How they didn't win one, I don't know. This is simply beautiful.

  • @profatansan just love the concluding sentence of this comment... 'this is the best song i've heard for at least a year. I'm buying the album for my mum' ha. Amazing song though, i'll agree

  • Very peaceful :) we're really looking forward to them performing at our festival live on the Open Air Stage :)

  • I wish I was going to the big chill. It's a fantastic festival and the lineup this year is great.

    Have a great time

  • Does anyone know the chords?

  • i wish i did.

if anyone knows the chords to ANY leisure society song please post them on ultimate-guitar or anything!

  • What's the significance of America in this song?

  • blasphemy!

  • lovely songs.inspired me to sing.check out gypwin or john dale

  • ukc, you have no taste or an ability to appreciate beauty in music. Says a lot about a person.

  • If it rocks your boat, then fine, it just left me bored. I actually think I have quite a wide taste in music, and other tracks by this band may appeal more to me, this one didnt. Your last comment is very true, it did say a lot, not just about me.....

  • This is quite a civilised reply, ukc (Kent Uni by any chance?). Do you like Elbow? Guy Garvey, lead singer, has promoted this song and group. But as you say ,we all have varying tastes, probably a good thing.

  • Has an air of early Pink Floyd and early Fleetwood Mac combined ! Lovely song, like it very much

  • Where can you purchase or download the printed music?

  • Oasis' Wonderwall video was a bit like this. Chairs in a line in a warehouse and all that. Liam Gallagher used to work in a factory too. Probably.

  • This fellow looks a bit like the Amish kid from that movie Witness with Harrison Ford and your one from TopGun. I think he definitely bones her in it and you get to see her knockers, or a good bit of them anyway. I seem to recall as much but I haven't seen it since I was a young lad.

  • The chelsea flower show was on today. Too many new-fangled conceptual gardens, political statements, minimalist efforts and suchlike for my tastes. Give me a classic British conservative, cottage garden anyday, preferably with gooseberries in.

  • Does anyone else know any other LGG songs? She's so amazing. She hasn't read Ivor's Novella yet though. This bloke singing has. I think he said it was rubbish and that he prefers short stories anyway.

  • Poker face is a really good song about a girl who's really good at cards and nobody knows if she's bluffing or what's going on with her hand...Pokerface, Pokerface nobody can see my Pokerface! Bloody brilliant!

  • Really amazing - I didn't know it was about this...

  • wow! where have you been man.

    outstanding

  • this song is well good :)

    love it <3

  • Only Love can break your heart....RIP oFF!!! Neil Young should sue

  • What a melody, totally beautiful. I hope they get the Ivor tomorrow!

  • Lady GaGa - Pokerface - Over 5,000,000 Views.

This video - not even 20,000 Views!

All I can say is...What is wrong with people?

We need more like this instead of the trash that makes up the majority of todays music.

Go Leisure Society, Fleet Foxes and Midlake!

    5 Stars!

  • Lady Ga Ga is fantastic! She's amazing! Poker face, Poker face nobody can see my poker face!!! Genius

  • Your opinion...

  • sexy marcus. ooh u ma baby

  • I just heard this on BBC radio 2 and instantly loved it.

    I'll definitely get the album.

  • just listened to their album. so accomplished. very beautiful stuff.

  • its a beautiful song.. thank you..:)

  • indeed it is............. you ought to listen to their album " the sleeper" it is quite refreshing..."

  • I do enjoy it but I wouldn't class it as great song writing.

There are many artists out there that have better song writing skills, Laura Marling springs to mind.

  • Parts remind me of Kate Bush.

  • @ funkyspanish - You are so right, those opening piano chords. Definitely moments of Crosby, Stills and Nash and Neil Young influence in some of their other tracks, particularly the vocal harmonies. Bought the album yesterday and it really is all this good. Can see me still playing it in 20 years, it's got that timeless feel to it.

  • Great performance and genius songwriting. The lyrics, the way the notes are arranged and even the time signature are just so refreshingly different from most of the stuff you hear on the radio today.

  • Ah yes this is an amazing song, much of the brilliance of which is in the lyrics and the arrangement, neither of which are even close to being ordinary. I've been following this band since December and I simply do not think many others comes close to their level of writing and performance, all hail TLS!

  • exactly correct, the arrangement is fantasticly simple yet very effective.

The beatles were a bit that way, something the younger folk ought to think about before dissmissing this great band.

  • Lovely tune. Reminds me of Neil Young's Only love can break your heart! check it out too.

  • Re funkyspanish - That's just what I was thinking...

  • sounds like it may be someone elses cup of tea but not mine sir, not mine

  • Its good- reminds me of some Nick Drake stuff- worth a listen

  • I'm gonna be one who doesn't jump on the bandwagon. Highly ordinary.

    Avrilcrx - perfection?? Bog off.

  • It's a great shame that youtube is full of youth that believe they know everything, when in fact they know very very little.

Pray tell sir, what would you consider extraordinary in musical talent so we may have a slight insight into your idea's (and of course a laugh at your idiocy) ?

  • Amazing!

They should tour with Fleet Foxes!

    Billy

    REDTRACK x

  • This is about as close to the perfect song as I've ever heard. So beautiful x

  • Yes, it truly is a great piece, Im just a bit baffled how it didnt even enter the uk top 40. When I was younger yhoud have to sell hundreds of thousands singles to get into the bbc chart, nowadays you only need a couple thousand. Youth mostly are responsible for the radio 1 chart, why on earth havent seen how great this song is ? 13,249 views, should be over a million by now, very modestly.

  • I know - this song should be everywhere....I've Tweeted it, etc. Just doing my bit :o)

  • Yes mate, I just cant believe how slow this fantastic vid is moving on here. Are people really thick as shite to not realise the greatness of this musical contribution to the world ?

  • It isn't in the UK top 40 because its not commercial. It appeals to people who appreciate music as music, but unfortunately, that's not what sells. The charts are full of music that's made to a formula, which this definitely does not fit into. Acoustic guitars, strings - this is harking back to the days before synthesisers and sequencers, where music was music, played on real instruments. However, according to the cynics in the record industry, that doesn't matter these days...

  • Yeah it's proper music, just how music should be.

  • I couldn't have said that any better myself.

The so called top 40 these days is a joke, we're feeding our kids audio junk food of the worst kind.

This song was gorgeous, a really lovely melody.

  • Saw these guys in a record shop in Brighton last month (had been playing their music non-stop for at least 3 months beforehand) and they were wonderful... nice people too... so glad to see them getting the recognition they deserve with this beautiful song! :)

  • Well this has certainly turned into an excellent way to get your own back on someone who broke your heart! Like a musical version of that thing where you put your thumb against your nose and wiggle your hand. Who is that woman? How long before the tabloids track her down?!

  • Heard it for the first time on radio last night, not many songs move me close to tears on the first listen. Just wonderful.

  • And America Seems an awful long way to go As we hide ourselves In the last of the melting snow So We Find In the fad-ing light Of the winter-time That there's nothing left to try All is best Left unsaid
  • Wait all year For the part-ing shot For the epilogue For the moment when it stops And the days Fade away In no doubt As I leave this town I will not return For I haven't got the room In my head For these things
  • Stunning. One of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a long time. Toi toi at the Novellos!

  • Good Luck Nick at the Novello awards. You deserve huge success. I can't stop playing your CD 'The Sleeper' - especially in the car - it makes driving a pleasure!

  • lyrics please?

  • I saw this video before it was on the BBC. I'm awesome.

  • And yet you only comment after. You are a tool.

  • You're absolutely right, I am a tool.

Oh wait, what's that? 4th comment left on here was by me.

    You lose.

    You lose big time.

  • I still hold that the tool comment is correct.

  • Brilliant

  • Wonderful Song. Finally we may have the next Clifford T Ward.

  • Beautiful

  • Mmm, they're no Susan Boyle though are they?

Beautiful song, have fun at the Novello awards, hope it brings you what you wish for, well done.

  • nice

  • go on son

-now get writing everyday with or without the voddy

  • Love the fleet foxes, and always liked the lilac time. this song is definitely in that category.

  • Oh, one other thing for the vid poster tom stokes..... 7,767 views will soon be a whole lot more !!

  • 3000 more views 15 hours after your post ..

  • Prepare yourself for a very rewarding musical career, a fantastic piece of musical talent.

Good luck to you Nick & the band......

All the best from NSW Australia, I just saw an article on you Nick on BBC world news........

  • Thanks to the bbc for bringing this to my attention. Maybe a little like the british version of the shins, but i will certainly buy an album as soon as you get your inevitable record deal!

  • Gwarn you Leisure Society. You are inspiring.

  • Lyrical, haunting and moving, great that they really consider all entries and not just the obvious

  • I think the warehouse could soon be left behind. Great video. Thanks for posting and to BBC.

  • hey jst read about this on teletext 502!! i love it when a good story lives up to the hype. all the luck in the world guys xx

  • me too!! good wee tune!!

  • what a lovely song and a great performance. Thanks to BBC news for alerting me to this - it deserves to be much better known - perhaps this could rival Susan Boyle on YouTube?!! (except probably better deserved - oops!)

  • Watched the story on BBC news tonight and searched it straight away! yehey found it.....absolutely love this song..........Goodluck you deserve to win!

  • Pure and simple fine by me - better than pissed and pretentious.

  • pretty little song.

  • Comment removed

  • pure and simple

  • probably get downvoted for this or whatever but its not that good of a song in my opinion ... doesn't grab me and just sounds dull

  • Very good voice - a real singer. Want to hear lots more.

  • good harmony!!!

  • So very lovely. Best of luck!

  • Beautiful. I can hear Divine Comedy and Joanna Newsom influences in this, and it is lovely.

  • Good luck, nice production.

  • Well done lovely song - hope you win
