  • God, he was gorgeous.

  • if jack hadn't started all the drinking and smoking he would've looked sooooo much better here but still i'm amazed at how he still manages to look gorgeous!!! mark looks really good too but i've always had a soft spot for artful dodger:)

  • Blimey Jack was gorgeous.

  • Mark was handsome

  • it just sucks cause you can tell hes been drinking. stay wild everyone <3

  • Lester seems a bit stuck up

  • Am I seeing this right? Oliver's taller than The Dodger?!

  • 1987? Jack still looks young here. I expected him to look awful like he did in later life.

  • @MOONST0MP It wasn't until he got to his 40s that he started looking terrible. Of course he was ill by then.

  • @MOONST0MP

1987 was when he was drinking his heaviest. He entered rehab in early 1988.

  • I really don't like Mark Lester... he comes across as one big ego. Sorry, I shouldn't judge a man I don't know.

  • @CorduroyAngel hi ..your right mark is up himself ..my brother was in the movie too as a dancer ... we know mark he's a pain in the a... really sad really the way he is ...

  • Oliver looks like daniel tosh o.e

  • 1987 was such a depressing year. Everybody on tv was depressed, harking back to better days. Or was it just on the Wogan show?

  • Quite funny really, there body changes, there hair changes but thier eyes are just as inocent, sweet!

  • society fucked him over

  • Oliver, my favourite musical of all time. Wonderful! Every character a gem!

Sad ending for Jack Wilde. Dying in such awful means in 2006.

Mark Lester chases rainbows now. I think?

Celebrity can go awry, especially resulting from being a child star!

  • JAck was 35??? He looked like a mature 20 year old!

  • Hah Imagine if Mark's name was changed to Moe... Moe Lester..

  • lol .. "he was in the different growin bank"

he is smart that was a good reply he Embarrassed the interviewer and made him explain what he meant

    luv u JACK <3

  • @shahad111 ............ different GROW BAG

  • @IMPERIALSTORMTROOPER aha I didn't hear him very well but it's funnier

  • Where's the rest? (:

  • Both of them were so adorable!

  • Lionel Bart (allegedly) got these two on the charlie. Lester kicked it - Wild found it more difficult.

Jack Wild - what charisma. I honestly think Hollywood would have rediscovered him in the 2000s had he stayed healthy.

Even sadder is the fact that Arthur, Jack's brother, died at 49 in 2000.

  • @RichardElden That's because he drank and smoked and got cancer.

  • @RichardElden can you stop being so rude about Jack Wild please and thank you. He was short but definately not ugly! That may be your opinion but that doesn't mean you have to be immature and say he was "fucking ugly" have some respect for him. He had a much more eventful life than most ever will and it had to be cut short because of his actions. Just because he wasn't the main character in every single film that was made when he was alive, doesn't mean he wasn't talented. He's still very loved.

  • @RichardElden Being short and ugly is hardly a deterrent to becoming a successful character actor, Timothy Spall, John C. Reilly and Toby Jones come to mind immediately and I'm sure there are others. He got in the way of his own success by being an addict and an alcoholic and basically abusing his health until it was too late to fix it. You really seem to hate Jack Wild, what the hell did he ever do to you?

  • Oh lord, it makes me sad to think Jack Wild could have lived a long healthy life if only he had laid off the booze. It's so sad to see people you love who are determined to self-destruct. He might have aged much better and not gotten mouth cancer.

  • @Chizpurfle52595 Jack would have been 60 next year. I'm convinced he had youthful genes. Like you say if it weren't for the booze, if he were still alive he'd only look in his mid 40s.

  • I went to see Oliver Twist when I was 8 years old in 1968. I fell in love with England. I ended up going to England in 1983, meeting a Brit, getting married, living there, and having a son there. I used to watch Terry Wogan all the time. As for Jack Wild, he was part of my childhood I'll never forget. I would get up early on Saturday's to watch H.R. Pufnstuf. He was just adorable.

  • Jack had the fountain of youth he was a great actor and singer

  • Yes, he was short. But you need glasses or a Dr.

to say he was ugly. Every girl had a crush on him

back in the day. Stop being so jealous. That's ugly...

  • @RichardElden No, your not great, your an ass...

He will always be remembered for his fun and great work. He was handsome,

and could act and sing. Who will remember you? Nobody...

  • @Ambrrrmay wise words

  • Loved Jack. The greats have such issues. Didn't know he was so great...

  • @RichardElden 4 minutes

  • i dont get why everyone thinks mark lester has such an ego? And if he has then its obviously because of his upbringing through fame

  • jack wild looks like a old chick

  • But it is truly horrific that Jack died don't think mark watever that asshole did not give a shit I can see the huge ego in him. I love jack so damn much I can't even stand it.

  • Oh jack you are still so cuteXD

  • Jack always looks the same, hahah

  • @RichardElden And ? ; I mean what IS your point ?

  • @RichardElden How five minutes ??

  • @EMRULEZX Yes,do that ; 'Dee Time' was a great show as well, Britain's first ever light entertainment chat show that went out completely live on BBC 1 every Saturday evening and had on it all the biggest stars of the time from movies, Pop music, tv and theatre. It was one of the biggest shows on tv for 3 years from 1967 to 1970 when it ended and was a 'swinging' fun show which resulted in of loads of copies after, eventually leading to Jonathan Ross ; Simon Dee was a huge tv star then

  • Love the film Oliver.I am an American that loves all things UK.Would love to go to England some day.

  • This is 1987? Jack is sporting a Dan Tanna look circa 1978. Is Terry rocking a toop?

  • @midmodgal Yes, it is 1987. And I agree with you, Jack's fashions are ten years too late. :)

  • @midmodgal Yeah, Jack didn't have to look so goofy. A haircut, decent glasses, and clothes from the right decade would have gone a long way. Mark looks hunky!

  • Jack Wild was a very nice guy ; a great clip of him on Youtube is being interviewed on Dee Time by the late great Simon Dee in 1968, just after Oliver was released. So sad Jack died too young

  • R.i.p jack, he was sooooooooooooooooo lovely :'(

  • @RichardElden well technically he was cuz he was born in manchester BUT he was raised in London so .. :/

  • jack wild was so cute in oliver! the perfect cockney voice.. too bad he died so young.. 53... michael jackson died 50 in fact.. mark lester still claims today that he is the real father of one of michael jackson's kids

  • Jack had a good sense of humor. I wish he were still alive.

  • oh dear, you can tell Jack was a heavy smoker and drinker just by how he has aged. R.I.P

  • Good grief! I can almost TASTE the palpable egotism of Mark Lester smearing out from this video. Mark seems to barely want to acknowledge that HE actually did a motion picture called OLIVER! W/ Jack Wild. Jack had his demons, & he passed in 2006. Mark Lester just chirped on about Mark Lester, and more about...well...Mark Lester...& even though MORE so, about...well....MARK LESTER! I can't say for sure WHO is the number one member of the Mark Lester Fan Club; but I have a very good idea! Peace.

  • Hummmm.... i wonder where you can find the rest of this!! lol.

  • aww you can so see that its them :D

  • @XdisXesXwhyXimXhawtX That's coz it is them. ;)

  • You can still see Oliver in Mark's face

  • Mark has'nt changed he still has that cute face. jack looks very different he has aged a little bit.

  • I SOOOOOOO LOVE Jack Wild's voice. It's kinda soothing. It calms me down ^^ <3

  • If Jack only knew what he meant to his fans... I think it is so sad the way they are forgotten...

  • Jack Wild's death was truly horrific. All those years of drink, drugs and smoking took a hideous toll. If you google his image, you'll see him near the end with his girlfriend and he looks like a tiny, fragile old woman. You'd never know it was him. It was a very sad story, especially after oral cancer surgery took his voice, but by all accounts he did his best to fight the good fight and got sober. Seriously, google his image, You'll toss those Marlboros out for good - it's that bad.

  • @notredamehesamighty Yes he looked seventy when he died.

  • Jack probably didn't want to say he was unemployed.

  • @TheRandomnessStudios Yeah, a 1970s outfit in 1987. ;)

  • Mark Lester kind of sounds like Harry Potter...

  • did jack end up going to the states to do the sitcom ?. if so, what was the sitcom ?

  • @Bethfromwigan No, never materialised according to wikipedia. It's on his page somewhere there under reboot of career !!

  • Free Assange!

  • jack looks a little....weird

  • It's interesting - in a sad way - that of all the work Jack did on the movie Oliver! and all the many things that happened during that year of filming, the one incident he most vividly recalled and spoke of here was the time he got deathly ill smoking herbal tobacco.

  • This is kinda random but the jack wild looks like the livelavalives "jeff" and it cracks me up. I luv jack though. A.K.A jimmy

  • jack is so goodlooking

  • jack wild forever , y love you

  • anyone know what year this interview was given??

  • @femsual 1987.

  • @JuanMacready thank u-- jack looks so cute here

  • @femsual Yes, the glasses were a bit large though.

  • @JuanMacready definatly-- did u see the interview jack did on here with simon dee?

  • @femsual Yes. It was a bit ironic though, when he said he wasn't worried about problems facing child actors as they get older.

  • @JuanMacready yah i know , i noticed that comment too, but he look so cute at that age. simon dee i heard passed on recenty too..

  • @femsual December 1987

  • I thought Jack Wild would grow up to look more like Paul McCartney lol

  • That Wogan guy is a real pratt and plonker.

  • Mark lester is my osteopath!

  • Comment removed

  • @JubalCalif Jack was, Mark certainly wasn't.

  • Comment removed

  • @JubalCalif Letzer was only cast in "O)liver!" because he had the right look. He couldn't act so they had to put onions near his eyes and pull rabbits out of hats. All his singing was dubbed by a woman.

  • Marks a misserable old fart but hes ded cute coz his eyes are ded big. he needs to smile more tho. Jack is awsome coz he makes loads of jokes! R.I.P x

  • This is Christmas 1987. Jack was 35 here. He quit drinking in 1989, but so much damage had already been done to his health and career. So sad.

  • How old was Jack here? He's not aged at all! He was only 5ft 3. <3

  • Even at this age, with years of alcohol abuse and a failing career, Jack Wild was hotter than hell. Damnnn, what a cutie.

  • Growing up, I'ld watch HR Puffinstuff with Jack. Aweful show but the hghlight was Jack, indeed!

  • @OnCloudNine62 Aweful show? Nigga Please.. one of the most remakable shows eva!

  • you can tell its them, Mark's eyes are still adorable big and his face has not changed! (i'm 11, good eye sight, i can identify stuff like this lol) and Jack's hair, the same, and face, not changed, still adorable awww! i didn't know he smoked... why has he got glasses? he didn't have glasses when he was younger! wierd how that happens. oh, well, i still think he's sweet! aww

  • @crazyJester1998 Maybe he wore lenses.

  • Do Ya' Want Ya' Wallet Back Hahaha (: X

  • jack is a spunky little chap.. mark tho, needs to lighten up tho and smile more

  • Love Jack Wild!

  • Jack was always the cuter and more talented of the two. He pulled Mark through both of their movies.Too bad Mark got all the height.

  • Mark Lester looks like Julia Roberts so bad

  • @MrSistasista Letzer grew up to be quite a strange looking man.

  • Is it just my machine that jams at 5:21 or is this video buggered?! I enjoyed it while it lasted tho, thanks. :-)

  • I think Mark Lester wasn't a real blonde.

  • We'll never know what Mark Lester's main aim was...

  • @monkeybanana101 Nope, because that's where the video ends. Just thank your lucky stars you saw it at all!

  • I think it was something to do with the Imperial College in London.

  • @monkeybanana101 Yeah but hes not dead yet (Im sure being five months ago someone was bound to have said it already but if not :)).. Jack Wild on the other hand.. R.I.P. !! :(

  • @monkeybanana101

To be an osteopath, presumably. Aim high.

  • @monkeybanana101 Maybe not, but just feel lucky we found the tape at all!

  • holy cow Mark Lester is STRAPPING!!!! HOTTT

  • wonderful actors! Jack wild is amazing and never got recognised how good and talented he was!

  • I remember HRP, I had a crush on him

  • how old are each of them here?

  • Mark Letzer was 29 and Jack Wild was 35.

  • Mark was so cute in the "Melody"....but now?....

  • Letzer never was an actor at all.

  • Arthur's pancreas basically exploded, due to his extreme alcoholism. And no doubt Jack was loaded in this interview. He said he spent the 80's in a haze. But oh he left some beautiful images on that screen. His Dodger will live forever. Not a bad way to be memorialized. Most people aren't remembered at all.

  • Did Arthur stop acting after the 1960s?

  • R.I.P Jack Wild.

  • ive met mark lester

  • So?

  • Wow, Jack's voice is so croaky, his face fading, poor guy, but only himself to blame. I'll always love him for his role as Dodger, ALWAYS.

  • Love Jack Wild!!!! I watch "Oliver!" with my kids and grandkids and He and Ron Moody well....................... they are just the business!! Jack acts through every scene he is in, even if the focus not primarily him - just a wonderfully lovely person.

  • mark lister is very posh

  • He looks like a young Cliff Richard!!

  • Jack appears to be having a hard time speaking in this interview, both physically and mentally. His throat seems already damaged and his faculties are impaired. How sad to witness the decline of such a talented, beautiful person.

  • Maybe he was just drunk?

  • I too had a huge crush on Jack and watched him every Sat morning. I remember being so shocked and surprised when I realized I was looking at him years later in the movie Robin Hood with Kevin Costner. He seemed to have aged so so much and there seemed a sadness about him.

  • @jennabubbles I think that was around the time Jack contracted cancer...

  • Jack was diagnosed with cancer in 2000, ten years after the Robin Hood movie.

  • @JuanMacready Yeah, but it was a gradual build up. All that smoking. All that booze. It just didn't start in 2000. He was looking rough during Robin Hood because of his lifestgyle.

  • Do you think he was lying about never using drugs? I saw a heroin addict on TV who looked exactly like Jack Wild did in later years.

  • I think Jack's life would have turned out better had he never taken that role in HRP. His talent was so much deeper than that LA psycho-kidstuff and it got his head messed up. Just sayin.

  • He'd already been drinking heavily since he was 12.

  • @FrankClanton and who told you that?

  • Wild said he started drinking and smoking regularly when he was twelve.

  • @Brenda2OOO Jack wasn't given the big breaks he needed in the 1980s. I think he would have been great in something like EastEnders. He was a far better actor than some people give him credit for.

  • If he'd been a few years older he would have been good as Del Boy.

  • Jack Wild looks cute. RIP Jack, we miss ya.

  • I have a page sized picture of Jack from a teen magazine from 1970. I had put on my mom's lipstick and kissed it all over LOL There are still traces of my lips on it;)

  • I always liked Jack Wild, ever since he was on HR Puffinstuff......had such a crush on him.....lovely man

  • poor jack he was so talented RIP.

  • god mark lester seems quite boring and like he doesnt want to be there

jack wild looks really cute in oliver too

  • I would say Mark really didn't want to be there. He had moved on in his life, he wasn't acting anymore, and he didn't crave celebrity. Whereas Jack was still trying to get work and put himself out there.

  • lol lester looks a bit like an anorexic john cena

  • christ look how different they are

  • all old (60s to 70s) british actors have some thing bad happen to them look at the carry on gangs biography and jack wild dies of cancer. its so sad

  • But Jack admitted it was his lifestyle that gave him cancer. He smoked and drank to excess. Unfortunately for him, and his fans, it killed him far too young.

  • oh i know but that was the 70s i wasnt around then but didnt people think it was not so much of a problem

  • Certainly in the 1970s it was fashionable for celebrities to drink and smoke a lot. Jack's life sounds like a nightmare though, he recalled that he was drinking all through the day and would light up one cigarette as soon as he's smoked the previous one. Fortunately child actors today have more support so they can cope with the inevitable downturn.

  • Thankyou for posting, that was great. I'm going to have to see if I can find "Melody".

  • @pazzensutra Amazon sell it.

  • Mark Lester always liked Jack and spoke of how Jack helped him so much during the filming of Oliver. Their lives took very different paths but there is no doubt who had the raw talent. And there's the tragedy.

  • I don't ge the sense that Mark is hostile. I get the impression that he's self-conscious, maybe a little shy and uncomfortable. He appears uncomfortable because of it.

  • Comment removed

  • I just read up on Wild's life/death... what a sad life for someone with so much talent.

  • @sunshineuk1965 Jack would only be 57 now, indeed a waste.

  • I wish they had said more about 'Melody'. I really love that movie. (I still haven't seen 'Oliver'.) In fact, I watched 'Melody' earlier today, which I assume is why this clip showed up in the recommendations.

  • You must see 'Oliver'. It's magical!

  • @kittyprydekissme: you gotta see "Oliver". Your life's not complete unless you see that one. Both Wild and Lester really shine. Everybody does, actually.

  • Jack had already suffered three cardiac arrests by this time.

  • This is the last time that Dr.Lester and Mr.Wild wer seen together.

  • They took part in an "After They Were Famous" reuinion for TV in July 2004.

  • no that's not true...they were together again for an Oliver Reunion along with Shane and Ron Moody

  • Good God, Wild looks like John Lennon here!

  • Actually, a bit more like John Denver.

  • He certainly doesn't look 35 to me, but he was apparently. His life and the way he comes across here brings a tear to my eye. Mark Lester sweats hostility in this interview from my pov.

  • Maybe you should get a job, you fucking freak.
