This is so bittersweet. <3 Does anyone know if we find out about the only water in the forest is the river thingy? I cant remember if we found out what it means... or if its a metaphor... or what... anyone know?
@OliverTwist2013 it's a reference from another episode when it turns out that Amy pond's child is called melody but in another language it means river stating that river song is Amy's child
One thing that puzzles me about this episode is how the TARDIS can't communicate with its inhabitants. House was clearly able to talk to people in the ship. Even supposing that the TARDIS matrix is verbally challenged in some spacy way, there shouldn't be anything stopping it from being able to communicate in Morse code with the lights :P
@CaptainPositron If I were to try and explain my perception of it, and it is by no means cannon, I would surmise that its not a technical limitation that prevents the TARDIS from communicating, i.e. the speakers suck. I would say it her more to do with her state of being. When she is inside the TARDIS as a fully realized being in time, she is on another whole plane of existence that makes communication with ours difficult, if not impossible. In this body, she has been diminished.
Even though iris/tardis is only in one episode relationship between the doctor and river cannot compare I mean the doctor has been with that tardis for a very long time and he only met river like 2 seasons ago
@Xwaterwolf100X This is about a month old but still. I think he built a shell in this episode..it won't work remember? But his TARDIS was already there, so it worked.
@Samuel24842 Well to be fair I think Tennant would have been just as great in this episode as Smith was, but yes, Smith is an excellent Doctor and this is a great episode.
@nothri i'm not saying he wouldn't be, but people who refuse to watch it now that tennant left, they should watch episodes like this and realize that it still has moments of brilliance just as it had before. And yes tennant would be good in this, but I'm glad they gave this moment to Matt, to show just how amazing his Doctor is, because before we've seen bits and bobs of his brilliance but not quite as brilliant as this
I love this episode! But, the TARDIS pulling by herself the lever at the end of episode means that Doctor gave her bigger ability to control herself? I haven`t watched all the episodes, so i don`t understand everything yet. Hope for fast answer.
@doctorrzepa No, I don't think he gave the ability to control herself. Like she said, she always took him where he needed to go. She's always been able to control herself, but it wasn't until now that the Doctor fully understood the Tardis was alive and aware felt for him what he feels for her. It was her letting him know she was still there, still aware. That even though they couldn't talk, she was still with him, and she'd continue taking care of him.
Yo Doctor, we heard you like TARDISes, so we got yo TARDIS to help you build a TARDIS so you can go find yo stolen TARDIS with yo TARDIS in yo new TARDIS
You know, in lets Kill Hitler, when he's diying of the poison and talks with the voice interface, Am I the only one who thinks that the TARDIS was the one that let little Amy say "Fishfingers and custard"?
"There's something I didn't get to say to you - Goodbye? - No. I just wanted to say hello. Hello Doctor. It's so very very nice to meet you" -- Certainly, one of my fav lines of the whole series.
My favourite Eleventh Doctor episode. A Good Man Goes to War is a close second, but there's no way even River can compare to the relationship between the Doctor and the TARDIS.
That line always gives me goosebumps. I love the idea of the TARDIS fighting off House for control of her ship. Fighting for her Doctor. It's just amazing.
@Xwaterwolf100X It was a Frankenstein Tardis. He took limbs and a torso from the Tardis graveyard and the human tardis supplied the brain and the spark of life. Remember, it didn't work until she did something to it.
I'm wondering if anyone else got the concept of Idris/TARDIS's Victorian appearance? I consider it a great homage to Williams Hartnell's role as the First Doctor.
i never even remembered the line 'The only water in the forest is the river' from this episode.... i can't say it enough.... Moffat is a genius!!!!!!!
How did they not go into Time Ram (ex. The Time Monster, BF's The Wormery) and destroy the universe when the two TARDISs occupied the same space and time?
" Bigger on the inside! See, House. That's your problem. Size of a planet but inside you are just...SO..SMALL!"
I trying to figure out this is meant to imply that the size of the Tardis on the inside is (potentially) bigger than a planet, or if you can shrink something the size of a planet down into nothing inside the Tardis. Or is it both?
@idgarad There's a story in Sandman that reminds me of this- the main character, Dream, defeats a powerful demon fairly easily by 'shrinking' it and trapping it in a bottle. He explains that the creature should not have challenged him in the heart of his realm, where reality is his to control. That's why I like this episode, it explores aspects of the Tardis in ways you suspected were always true but have never seen directly examined.
@nothri I think it's more metaphorically bigger on the inside. House was a small-mided creature, concerned only with his own desires. The TARDIS can see all of time and space and with that awesome power chooses to send The Doctor to save the universe countless times.
@themightyjoseph Good point. While Idris/Tardis/Sexy demonstrates near omnicence throughout the episode the 'I don't know' is badly inconsistent. However I'd sooner jam forks in my eyes than say that Neil Gaiman is a bad writer.
At a guess I'd say that the old control room is fairly symmetical, making it difficult to describe the point of entry from a first person perspective, especially when flying a Blue Peter TARDIS towards a rift in the universe.
@Artemis1988 BTW this is just my speculation I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on the inner mechanics of a sentient physics-bending time machine built by aliens. I failed that particular module at Uni :(
@Artemis1988 That or she simply saw that she said that and repeated what she said. Or saying where she would land would have causes Rory to say something out loud about her landing on Nephew, which would have caused House to somehow save Nephew.
something about the tardis reminds me of the apollo 11.... i don't know why.
