Pretty obvious you're taking what you've learned in band and transposing it incorrectly onto a full set. learn to speak with the rest of the set. There's more to drums that rudiments on snare, moving it with a lackluster for of anti-grace around the set, and accenting with a crash.

This guy has got as much praise in this video as videos with the likes of Tony Royster Jr/Aaron Spears etc.- In reality, the stuff this guy does in this video can be achieved by anyone who practices for a couple of years and can count to 4/.

@gabebarajas505 I'm not saying he wasn't, but just because he played trad doesn't he mean he necessarily was. Plenty of drummers, specifically jazz drummers, just prefer using that grip. If you were to discern whether or not he was in marching band, the clue would probably be the backsticking. Backsticking has no real musical value, it's just for show. It doesn't look as cool on drumset than on marching snare anyways.
