christianity was the reason it became illegal in the first place. a few hundred years ago christian-extremists said that cannabis was for pagan rituals and was also used in witchcraft, so it was against god. so in a kind, christ-like manner they imprisoned, tortured and killed users. i don't believe in god myself (cause i don't believe in harming/judging other people), but if something grows directly from the earth in abundance, then it must be a gift from somewhere. right?

God does not create hate, it's the interpretation made by humans to cover up their own misdemeanors.

Racism was the reason these laws were created. The largest racist groups of that era was the KKK. The KKK were often Christians, but their views didn't have to do with them being Christian, but rather feeling they are making a better country by removing these people.

It's basically how "conservative groups" are anti-this and anti-that. They just use religion as a front for their hate crimes.

Cannabis plants could be used for too many products, and the banks that owned all the plastics and papers realised that their sales were being struck heavily.

The name marijuana is the Spanish word for "illegal drug", they slapped it on all hemp/cannabis products so that they would scare Americans into thinking that it was more dangerous and that the Mexican immigration was ruining their economy.
