What a lovely song and her eyes seem to have lived through alot of goodbyes...I like the steady slow melody............2:23 low sexy sad note. Sweet, Sad, Sexy
Part 2... Deborah's version is more "timeless" .... not as dated as the other ladies. She wisely choose to delete the obvious....maybe they thought it was edgey to state they were having " relations", hey it was the early 60's. I enjoy DH's the best...Viva debbie!
I would like to thank You Tube for all this great oppertunity to check out all these fantastic songs/performances. Joni James, Skeeter Davis and Deborah Harry all have their own styles, so personal taste is up to you really. Skeeter's song is a little to much "echo" & reverb heavy for me. Joni's version is more of a broad & big musical .....vocals have a good amount of "feeling". Finally Deborah's ...a good amount of "heart" in her rendition... more on next post
Wow, I'm completely floored right now! I've listened to the Joni James vocal version of this classic song for years. I never dreamed Debbie would do this style of song. It's quite excellent!! Thanks for posting.
One of the things I like about Blondie/Deborah Harry is how diverse they/she are/is. Punk frustration, disco, rock, country, jazz, space age, new wave, rap, big band, classical, sugary sweet, pissed off, sentimental, insane, horny, etc. In my opinion they pulled most of it off brilliantly. Great song.
Wow not heard these before nice vocals on this and tear drops, I have the CD Debravation and neither of these songs are on it!! I feel cheated. But thanks for posting.
@suej6969 With all due respect to Ms. Harry the Skeeter Davis version from 1960 is the best version of this song. Skeeter used Floyd Cramer's instrumental track. It doesn't get any better than that.
When you have a person saying F**king horrible to a song sung in this voice so beautiful.
whats the point of even making a comment how immature can one be.

She doesn't have as a good or as strong a voice as Skeeter Davis, but this is quite good.

REM didn't make it first, it is the lyric version of the country hit The Last Date by Floyd Cramer, Skeeter Davis recorded this in the sixties.
