is it Lang or Lame? Every video of this guy is the same - the same old fast drumming "machine gun" shit - Sure he's got a "talent", but he's displays no musical depth - always the drummer, never a band mate.
the drumming is impressive, but listening to this clip after hearing the ones of Lang playing a real kit is not contest sounds wise... this thing might be the best electronic kit out there, but it still doesn't sound like a good acoustic kit to my ears...
I think the real weak spot of the electronic drums is the rebound hit sound. I mean repeated hits behave differently even with mesh heads because of the missing 'echo' and 'vibration' you would have on the acoustic drums.
If Roland will come up with some 'electronic' solution to that sound modelling problem, then there will be a huge step ahead.
WTF? Buddy was and still is the greatest drummer that ever lived. Refer to Dave Weckls' comments about how Buddy could execute technical exercises and rudiments much faster and with greater execution than he ever could. Lang is awesome and his technique stunning, but Buddy cannot be ignored. I think the problem is that Buddy's big band era is not as popular with today's drumming audiences. Buddy was a pioneer. Lang does nothing new. I have great respect for both drummers though.
You don't know what drumming is all about. You can't possibly be better than Buddy Rich at 12. First of all because your not experienced. Second it is incredibly hard to pass Buddy Rich. You need to know just about everything that makes drumming, DRUMMING. True, he's not the best anymore but it still takes a lot to even pass him and a 12 yea old will absolutely not pass him.
buddy rich was one thing but thomas is way over him with all due respect for buddy he was the 1st is his time but this is drumming at a whole new level.... lang is a incredible drummer
All I can say is... When he did the Modern Drummer festival a few years ago... he got a standing ovation from both the technical guys and the groove guys....Donoti didn't get that...Colautia didn't get that.... Mayer didn't get that... Rabb did not get that... the whole audience of drummers were blown away. He raised the bar in a major way.
I beg to differ Baldo. I ran sound for him at two Texas clinics last year & can say as a fact that there is stuff going on that the video camera can not reproduce correctly or even remotely close. You should see him in person to really understand why so many people appreciate his style & fluidness.
Lang's a monster, and I could obviously not play like that even if I practised until the next ice age. But it's still pretty boring. Human drum machine.
This Whole Debate Can Be Just Like The Carl Palmer drum God thing .Carl Palmer was the Drum God In the 70,s He,s Still Great ,He Took Classical Typm Lessons And Snare Lessons,And I love Him ,But He Can,t Groove Worth A s...,ALthough He,s Better Now Than Then,Case Closed,T.L. CAN AT LEAST Play A groove Yet To Me He,s To robotic
Peart's amazing & I really love his playing but he's overrated.Thomas Lang KILLS him, so does Virgil Donati,Danny Carey,Dennis Chambers,Vinnie Colauita,Buddy Rich,Billy Cobham,Morgen Argen,Dave Weckl,Mike Portnoy,Carter Beauford,Tony Royster Jr.,Chris Adler,Terry Bozzio,Billy Cobham,Tony Williams,Bill Bruford, there's a bunch of guys who are just flat out better!Check those guys out-
Im sick of the ignorance some people have for for technically brilliant musicians... yes he may not have a band with him but he seems to be doin tremendous without it... oh yea and fuck travis barker too... he sucks balls
Thomas has been playing since he was 5. He's had professional lessons nearly all his life. He attended the Vienna Conservatory in Austria for classical percussion. He is a PROFESSIONAL. Not like half these guys who just play in a band and say "look at me I'm a star" Fuck Travis Barker.
Maybe you guys should try listening to the bands, instead of the drums, and mind as well say, they suck altogether. Which some do, but people don't play metal because they like how skillfull it is, like the sound of the band more than themselves.
ya I agree speed does not necessarily make a great drummer to be a great musician you have to practice and play all sorts of styles and genres of music
That's some nice V-Drums. A bit unrealistic on the "sound" but damn. He belted the crap out of that thing. hahaha.
Dave Weckl, Jojo Mayer, Vinnie Colaiuta, Thomas Lang, Joey from Slipknot; all of them WAY better than that fag from Blink 182 Travis Barkhead whatever his name is, and Lars Fagbitch of MetalllicARGH.
considering thomas lang is one of the best drummers in the world and travis barker, while being a sick drumer is nowher near the beast. Thomas lang is defiantly better bu leaps and bounds
There's Travis Barker all the way down there at the bottom of the food chain as regards drumming. These two aren't even in the same league. Thomas PRO Travis Semi Intermediate. he's good but not that good.
the only reason that we have heard of travis is because of blink 182. same with lars urlich, adrian young...ect. this guy has never been in any famous bands. ge got known for actually having skill and talent.
i respect this guy for having the technical ability to seemingly be able to play next to anything. regardless of style or 'feeling' etc this remains very admirable. He'd be a diamond session guy.
hes an awesome drummer...but he doesnt have a style as much as 'look at me i can play really fast because i have double pedals' hes a beast but yea unless hes playing a song or a semi solo hes boring
saw this guy play (drummer live yesterday)using td20....started off great but began to get a bit boring, the guy is a monster and i respect the time he puts in,but he relies way too much on extreme dbl peds...just tooooo! much for me.
Devilry00: ever play a TD-20 yourself? Kits are freaking amazing, you should try 'em. In all honesty, totally worth the $4k if you want a top-of-the-line e-kit.
Tyrenio: NAMM booths can't be too loud or else they'll infringe on the other booths.
gragmorrow: I'd rather be drowned out from all the cheering than be able to hear a pin drop, man! When the crowd is so loud that just pumps you up!
Can't think of anyone better to demonstrate the sheer brilliance of the TD-20 Module. Has he taken 2 and patched them together or is he just using them sepratly! Pretty cool set-up regardless! I love the TD-20, it's such a joy to play on, sometimes you forget it is electric!
He is incredible, but also a waste of talent. Rather than playing for *spice girls and pop music, he should find some good musicians and start a sick ass band. He is one of the best drummers today by far

true, but the only real difference in electric and acoustic kits is the snare drum
they've spent years trying to get it right and even with this £5000 kit, the snare sounds so mchine like

This is your opinion.
Buddy had his thing and Thomas has his thing.
They are two completely different drummers, Buddy is not
better and Thomas is not better. Its about what You like.
I would never listen to Buddy if I was going to learn more about odd time. He is simply not that kind of drummer.
And I would never listen to Thomas lang (although he has experience in Big Band playing) if I was going to listen to big band drumming.

no, that metal is one of the top 3:
metal, jazz, fusion.
metal: power, precision, polyrythms, and extreme speed.
jazz: orgasmic of-beats, polyrythms, syncapation, and ghosting
fusion: polyrythms, speed, offbeats, precision, and more polyrythms.
thomas lang: motherufcking god. i notice that for metal he switches the regular grip on the sticks, because it is faster and more powerfull
