The first guy didn't die. The camera angles make the wall look slanted so it looks like he didn't open his chute in time when he really did. The full video is available on some sites if your interested.

this jump was fine, the bottom jumper was atleast 50metres off the wall , it was just dwain tracked so much further due to his clotheing choice and awesome skill

Yep I jumped and even though it was tandem i loved every second; now i get to experience only a tiniest bit of freedom by flying on my motorcycle. Your vid reminded me of how the wind feels at 11,000 ft. so more power to you on this base jumping...

Actually i think the real danger in base jumping comes from the fact that when you jump you are so damn close to what ever you are jumping from that it is easy to smack back right into it, or when you open your chute to have the wind push you right into it..... damn that is some serious adrenaline though
Not bad for the world most dangerous extreme sport, Base jumping has even had more deaths then skydiving believe it or not. Check it out if you don't believe me. It is mostly because, in Base jumping you only have one parachute and in skydiving you have 2. So if you get it wrong you are dead. Everyone have spend over 6 hours learning how to fold your parachute befor we could actually go base jumping.

Because you're not at terminal velocity when the fall starts. I imagine that has a lot to do with it. The primal unwillingness to fall from a static position. For example, jumping off a 40 foot cliff into a pool of deep water is more intense than skydiving in my experience.
When you jump out of a plane you're typically already moving at more than 70mph.
I've jumped out of a plane and I've jumped off a short cliff into water. The short jump was freakier to me because I was going from a stationary platform.
