  • RIP Steve

  • @tomdevlin951 Eric Clapton - Lyla

  • @KaiserBecks tanks a million :D

  • love the look on johns face when strap comes off lol

  • 4:54 is where it gets good! R.I.P Steve. We miss you!

  • LOL Steve made the most shitty song ever

  • RIP Steve :)

  • R.I.P Steve Jobs. :'(

  • I spent many hours on Garageband learning how to record music and mix the basics in the early 00's just messing around and learning stuff.

I just finished mixing my first professional album using Pro Tools 9. It all wouldn't have been possible without getting my foot in the door in an intuitive & cheap way all those years ago. He may not have created every single thing from Apple, but if you believe in cause and effect you'll know he made all this stuff possible.

    btw.

    I don't use an iphone.

  • The only reason why I bought my Mac was for recording music. Absolutely brilliant and so easy to use. Mac has come a long way since this video was taken.

  • RIP Steve Jobs

  • We meet again 240p...

  • I used to watch this when I dreamt about to buy a mac. Now I'm watching this from my iMac!! ;p

  • "I'm gonna go get a woody..."

  • He proves again why he is awesome. John Mayer. :D

  • What is the amp model for the overdriven part when he plays part of "The Wind Cries Mary"? (After summer sounds) Also, what is the equivalent of the 70's amp model (the last model demoed) in the latest Garageband (that comes with iLife '11)? I think the amp models have been redone or changed since the original GarageBand.

  • 1:00

  • John mayer interrupted so many times, and steve jobs is pissed!!

Such big egos, yet so crafty people, in their own ways!

  • powerbook. lol.

  • its John Mayer

  • how does his guitar sound so good unprocessed?!?!

  • whats the song name at 6:05. sounds so familiar... something from the 80s probably

  • @lukachomg Message in a Bottle - Police. I'm thinking John tweaked with all these effects beforehand though because on my Mac that preset has way too much delay for me, but then again, I'm no Mayer.

  • @TheRealRayJ

    thanks a lot :D

  • I just don´t understand, like who and why would anyone dislike this? what is there to dislike?

  • I wonder how they managed to fit both of their egos on the same stage.

  • @CaramelMarshmallow mutual buggery clears up a lot of space

  • @CaramelMarshmallow bhahahahhahdfhasdlkf;jasdkfjahahhahahhahahahahahahaha

  • Haha no he says 'Horn staffs'

  • At 3:18 does he say "porn stats?"

  • You can get great tones considering they are computer generated. Amazing software.

  • he said ''Porn Stats'' 3:14-3:20 lol

  • Such an amazing piece of software. Hard to believe this is 1.0

  • Starting at 6:32 is a version of the solo to The Wind Cries Mary by Jimi Hendrix. Nicely done John.

  • UN-BE-LI-VAB-LE!!!!

  • Eric Clapton please!!!!!!

  • You can kind of tell that Steve just let himself go into his own musical world here to demo this product. I don't think he's EVER taking that long since the original Mac to demo & show off a feature, software, or product!

Also you can just tell the crowd LOVED John's performance along with the software. Wonder how many kids got a midi usb keyboard or guitar with a Mac that night?!

  • And this only Garage Band 1.0!

  • steve jobs has a very cool voice not like bill (nerd)

  • it was his own version

  • he's so fucking good, seeing him in the UK in jan and cant fucking wait

  • What's the last orchestral loop he adds?

  • Comment removed

  • anyone know how do i connect my midi keyborad to my mac? what do i need? Thanks

  • eek, try not to use midi,

because you need midi IN and OUT

AND, you need a whole seperate interface to connect the midi, AND that same interface must be seperately powered. its all so "blehhh"

just get a USB cable, and make sure you get a keyboard thats USB compatible.

Plus, the USB powers itself through the power of the mac itself.

my "original composition" vid was done with Garageband

  • what song is the 4th one when john tests the different sounds? when steve jobs says 'summer sounds'

  • the police... message in a bottle... geeeesus , gotta know this song ;)

  • ty, it sounded so familiar, but couldnt remember what it was :p

  • I want to know too =)

  • Message in a bottle - The Police

  • Does anyone know where I can get the first song which Steve Jobs created?

  • unfortunately, it doesn't look like he saved it when he closed it.

  • 7:32 - Whoo

  • what was the last sound that john tested?

  • My school has 2 iMac G4's and a G5, all have got garageband on it, and i loved it to bits. I LOVE to get a mac, but unfourtanatley everyone I know is a Windows user, and they don't take kindly to people who like macs :(

  • Yeah that last one was delicious.

  • i really want a mac one of the main reasons is because of this program and audio editing programs like this but i cant aford it what programs are like this for windows xp (fuckin hate microsoft)

  • none really... nothing as good as this one that I can think of...

  • Steve actually did a great job arranging those loops :D I'd be lost without GarageBand - I use it for everything..

  • porn stats?

  • LOL. I heard that, too. 'Horn'.

  • i just got garageband '08 from my friend, but for some reason it wont let me stretch the loops. does anyone know why?

  • You must stretch it from the upper right corner

  • wow - the song that Steve makes is real great!!

  • 6:04 i jizzed my pants

  • For the MacBook do you need to buy an external sound card in order to plug the guitar right into the computer and play?

  • i dont think so the cheapest way to do it is to get a cheap adapter from radio shack to go from your guitar cable 1/4" to the audio input on your mac that is the cheapest way with out a soundcard or you can buy a guitar cable that has usb on one end its basically a sound card in a cable thats what i use

  • Thank you so much for answering! But I guess I'm also trying to ask whether you need to buy an extra sound card in order to get the best sound, or is the one already built into the MacBook good enough?

    Thank You Again!

  • you really don't need to you can if you want like something from m-audio but i dont use anything else

  • Comment removed

  • Ok. Thank You for the great advice!

  • What is that riff he plays at 5:40?

    It's bugging me like hell!

  • its a part of layla by eric clapton

  • Thanks! xD

  • Are you serious?

Layla by Eric Clapton/ Derek and the Dominos

  • Dude where is the WHOLE thing?

  • i always wondered how they created porno music! now i know

  • What mac is he using, Mac Pro?

  • imac g5

  • Even though I am a PC lover though, this is a really cool program.

  • yeah if i were ever to buy a mac, this would be the soul reason

  • Now its even better...Logic Express is a step up from this and that rocks even more!!

  • ehm, and logic pro completely own logic express

  • Macbook is the #1

  • my GARAGEBANd doesn't have all those loops

  • because you'll have to download them

  • that was so cool. john mayer is the besttttttt

  • Wow! Thank you Steve Jobs! Thank you John Mayer! You too were super cool and fun to watch. Thanks for the humor! Hope I make you proud!

  • umm how come steve jobs doesnt tell u how to use the amp effects? does anybody know where i can find a tutorial, or HOW TO DO IT.

  • john mayer is so awesome. lol.

i think this just kind of proves it.

  • amazing!!

  • I'm going to buy a Macbook!!!!!!

  • whats the name of the music at 5.34??

  • "Layla" by Eric Clapton.

  • i think its really cool but can some tell me if these are the only guitar sounds that come with garage band?and is it a easy program to use garageband?Im getting a mac soon and i wana know if it will be a easy tool to use.

  • well these r the loops from tiger so if ure using leopard it diffrent

  • i love my ibook that i get from school for this reason

just fun to chill and look at loops

cant wait to publish some of my songs and send to buddies

  • THANK YOU STEVE

  • What Song Is He Playing At 5:34

  • Really man?

    Layla

    By Derek And The Dominoes

  • what was that last amp setting that John said sounds like a miked amp?

  • I was actually there at this keynote (only time my company sent me to Macworld) and it was indeed cool.

  • Oh, cool! I like Garage Band and have been using it lately. I think that last setting was "Texas Blues." I've been taking the Berklee blues class and have used that on a few assignments. It is a good one.

  • Is there a similar program for PC's out there??

  • acoustica mixcraft but its not even like garageband fully!!

  • Pro Tools

  • no, just for mac. the good about this is that in 3 months of usage i bet you'll want buy Apple Pro Tools, and you'll learn how to fully use it in 6 months. which means, you're ready for hollywood. :D

  • Steve Jobs and John Mayer all on one stage!?!?!?!? OMG! ITS MY DREAM! (I love Apple and John Mayer!)

  • he said, "i'm gonna go get a woody"

    haha

  • Steve Jobs is my boss and he is a pretty cool guy

  • Steve Jobs is my boss and he is funny

  • Good software.

  • ". . . And then I'm gonna go get a woody- uh, I'm gonna go get a bass."

    priceless

  • i just realized summer sound was Message in a Bottle xD haha.

  • omg seriously i want that guitar of his =(

i'm looking around for a fiesta red fender strat to repaint -_-

this is going to take longer than i thought.

  • its cool when he plays wind cries mary

  • john mayer is one of my fovorite guitar players

  • its message in a bottle by the police

  • its message in a bottle by the police

  • does anyone know who made the summer sounds originally or did he just make it up

  • Wish I had the skills, the technique and the feeling, that John has when playing guitar. I gotta practice.

  • all you need is to copy SRV and you will have that-rake etc.

  • thats a sick ass set of loops john put together, totally sounds his style on room for squares or even heavier things.

  • the ejay seriesare great, but garageband doesn't suck.. it's just not pro tool

  • That track that Steve does is really rather funky.

The amp modeling would be great for my guitars.

  • i'm 14 and i dont know guitar.

can you believe that? i dont..

well i wanna learn guitar and if i do this would be so damn fun

  • OMFG What happened to the rest of the video!? lmao. I really wanted to see his performance.

  • OK, nevermind, it's just really hard to find the third one.

  • Yeah, he should've put the part name in the Title so it would've been a lot easier to locate.

  • Hey can someone help me out here, Does Gargarge band work better on the mackbook or the macbook pro? Thanks

  • pretty much the same on both, but the macbook pro has some advantages, like more screen resolution so u can have more tracks on your screen at one time. and it has a dedicated video card so its not using main memory, but its not a video app so that doesnt really matter. but since they have the same processors now, and u can put 4 GB ram in both, its pretty much personal preference.

  • hey thanks

  • John mayer was raised like a half a mile form me

  • great video thanks wow great app

  • What's the loops?

  • they are the pieces that he was stretching.

  • no i mean like the names

  • btw, what's that little intro he did for the British Invasion amp? was it Eric Clapton? sounds familiar...

  • yah..layla. awesome combo.

  • damn i knew it xD didn't think to look through my Eric tracks -_-

    dammit i want a mac =(

  • wow this could really work for film too!

just put some of this in for bg music.

would this be on an IMac laptop as well? b/c i'm running a pc and it's just for my games really =p i'd love to have an app like this b/c...this is just wow.

  • Yep, it's on every Mac, the MacBooks, MacBook Pros, iMacs, Mac Pros, Man Minis, MacBook Airs etc...

  • great!

*sigh* but this means the possibility of having to take me off PC games =(

    hhmm...i'm more of a 360 person anyway...but it's a little frustrating why PC games won't work on a Mac =|

  • john is jus my idol hate it or love it

i gotta get that software too

  • gosh he pronouces garage like GRAGE

  • I feel like such an idiot, i didn't know there were loops

  • haha "i'm gonna go get a woody" :D

  • LOL

  • best one this week :P

  • hahhahahahah. that was funny when he said that.

  • Sure was. I wonder if he understood the subtlety of what he said as he said it.

  • he always makes mistakes. rarely corrects. them. look at 2008 keynote. he says"as many of you know there are 300 new features in tiger"

  • Go Steve! haha great job, I needa figure out what's up with my Apple Loops. Peace out people.

  • if i have a apple blueberry imac 350 10gb can i use garageband software even the earlier version??

  • Yup. Long as you have Mac OS X 10.3 or newer.

  • apple and microsoft should get together and provide the whole public with the most unbelievable personal computer experience ever. go applesoft!

  • nah, I think Apple should rule the computer world. Microsoft really hasn't come out with any good products lately. Their Live search is OK, but Vista sucks butt.

I only use PC right now because my several of my games and apps run on it and I can't get them for mac. :/
