  • Awesomeness!

  • I'd like to hear this one slow, all the way through..

  • Sounds like your from Newfoundland?

Thanks for the lesson, extremely helpful.

  • Nailed it! Thank you very much!

  • Ok, after looking all over U-Tube I think we might have somthing we can work on? I am just getting ready to make some cartoons, I have one last class to finidh, I have studied your music for 2 years! You can contact me at underpressureairbrush@yahoo.com To talk live I will give you the address after then! Would you be interested in making music for cartoons? Hope to hear from you! Jr.

  • @karrezza .. yeah I think this was an older video .. thanks ... Kirby

  • @karrezza ... hello .. chords are explained in the chords section .. keep in mind, if you're a beginner, my videos are not for you as my tutorials make the assumption you already know basic chords and when I mention 3 or 4 chords in the song, you can easily spot them when the full tutorial is played. I will have a free tab on this song eventually on my site. Thanks for your feedback. Kirby

  • @kirbyscovers Thanks, I watched your other video, of Ventura Highway Chords... and it helped MUCH better... You showed them much clearer....

  • wow,,!! thx for the lesson,i will keep trying!, and man,you really have a great strum!!

  • What a great lesson! Thanks a lot

  • That's excactly how to teach a song. GREAT

  • It's so enjoyful and touching to see your teaching, just so great feeling. Even your singing voice is no great! And I never got any bored to see your explaniantion and teaching..., even I didn't intent to learn guiater but just feel so good to see you teaching. I guess I would check your videos again if I decide to learn guitar next time. Thanks!!!

  • Hah, Kirby I remember you from Geilenkirchen. Your daughter Julie and my two daughters (Natalie & Kelly) used to hang out. I didn't even know you played guitar. I retired a few years ago and now play music around town to supplement the pension. I always use YouTube to help in working out song arrangements. Your tutorials are very good. I use to own one of those Yamaha APX guitars - Kelly has it now. Keep up the good work. Phil

  • To Mr. Buc:s comment about drop D. Actually America plays it in drop D.

  • Great. Thanks.

  • @kirbyscovers Has anyone mentioned that you are an extremely good teacher? If not, they have now. This is an extremely detailed lesson with a great deal of insight, and also happens to be the best cover I have heard of this song. Very good job sir, thank you for teaching me this.

  • @casanova6668 .. no problem .. thanks for the feedback .. Kirby

  • Awesome bro!!!

  • Not bad for total BS

  • I don't want to be "that guy" but why is there a thumbs down on this?

  • fuckin amazing.

  • Awesome post! Thanks.

  • amazing tutorial!!! the best !!!

  • Hey Kirby, I appreciate the tutorial tremendously, thanks for you direction on the song, one of the greats may I add, thanks again and look forward to you following up with oh something like dannys song perhaps..Later

  • thanks kirby, i enjoyed ur lecture and performance

  • Damn your a good teacher....well done. Nice voice too....

  • I don't have words but I won't be looking at any other tutorials now that I found .. I don't want to play any other way.

We strangely have the same taste.

  • Can I use a 12 string and do the same? Thanks

  • @Westsideboys1 You can, but with all of the octaves it won't sound the same, plus it will be harder to properly finger.

  • good stuff but try capo on 2nd fret using c maj 7 and fmaj 7 type chords

  • Wow, I'm blown away.Simply the best tutorial for this song on Youtube. Great rendition and very nicely done. Thanks for taking the time to make it and post it. Yeah I agree that drop D does take some of the brightness out. Sounds richer.. Great job.

  • Great cover Kirby i'm affraid i can only dream of playing like that.

  • Its more of a very quick right hand mute all the way thru kinda like this

    d-u-d-u-mute-u-d-u

    d-u-d-u-mute-u-d-u ... counted as 1&2&mute-&4&

Do this for 4 bars slowly until you catch it and then speed up to regular speed

Or think of a drummer playing a quick closed hihat and the snare being the mute part ... Kirby

  • @kirbyscovers great job...its helped a bunch learning this great tune...the drop d adds a great tone to the chord progression, keep up the awesome lessons..Ill be back for more, thanks

  • From video(s) with America performing, it looks like Dewey is playing in drop D, while another is capoing on the second fret, and I can't tell what the third guy is doing. This is probably why it sounds so rich.

I appreciate the work you put into this video, which is extremely well done.Let me just say, I'm finding the strumming difficult. I can't tell if you are muting the strings with your left hand (only) during parts, but muting with the strumming hand also on other parts? The Technique?

  • nice lesson.. very good.. the sounds made complete because of the open chords.. thanks for sharing.

  • Maybe you could do a picture in a picture type of thing with a close up angled view of your guitar neck so newbies like me can see exactly what you're doing.

Well anyway, I love your website, my friend. Thank you so much. Excellent taste and very well put together. I will be using it a lot for sure.

  • I may never attempt to play this song but wanted you to know that I really enjoyed listening to you play it.

  • I find a lot of people don't use different tuning, I like this alot, mind if we play it? I like the way you sing to. How about some DADGAD stuff, could use some help or songs not much out there on that tuning. Thanks

  • YEAH! this dude rocks.

  • I thought it was awesome and very educational. Thanks Kirby, i have subscribed. I would love to see you do some Valdi (if you've ever heard of him) hes a folk singer from the 70'S. Play me a rockin roll song, peter and lou, to name a couple.

  • Great lesson Kirby. Thanks for posting. This was always one of my favorite America song.

  • I'd say this is the best and most accurate soundin tutorial of this song I have found on youtube. Do you have a tab to back it up since the time is limited for you to really show it?

  • @miserablerottensmurf ... yes there is a tab on this one on my learn-how-to-play-guitar-songs site ... Thanks .. Kirby

  • This is such a great song. I had a request from by brother to play it and this tutorial cleared everything up for me. I gave the drop D tuning a shot and I quite like being able to have that low D when strumming that Dmaj7. Puts some much needed "oomph" in when playing this song alone.

  • You should write subtitles for people from other parts of the world to understand you better. Anyway it's pretty difficult for me, i've been trying this one for 3 days but I'm not as patient as I should be to learn this song.

  • great vid, thx, however dranging to drop d is a pain when i don't have my tuner (i'm a novice), can you do version without drop D? yes i'm aware others teach it on youtube, but your version/teaching style is friendly and dynamic, better than most

    Coleride

  • What a useless comment ! Who really cares if drop d is not nessesary. Kirbys version is realy cool, I dont recall hearing in the video that it was exactly the way america did it. it would be realy freekin boring if every one did everything exactly the same. Thanks Kirby

  • After seeing Kerbie's cover i don't feel like learning even the original version. I just prefer to play everything with one guitar.

  • Subscribed, 'nuff said

  • Great Lesson, Kirby! Very helpful. Can't Thank you enough! More power!

  • I have never seen or heard this song played in drop D tuning. It really is not nessacery

  • @MrBuc128 You are correct .. Not necessary but preferred as drop D adds a deep bass to any song ... which is why I use it a lot ... Kirby

  • ...Kirby...you are hands down the BEST teacher of this song on you tube...thank you....Darryl......

  • Wow! Great lesson Kirby. Thank you very much.

  • Thanks a lot , Kirby! I have been trying to learn this song for a while-it's one of my favorites from back in the day, as they say. Your teaching style is very smooth and easy to understand-got it!

  • this guy looks freakin stoned

  • @sk8foodtv He looks stoned, but he's not.

  • Awesome as always. My band is now doing Everybodys Talking At Me after I stumbled across your version of it while actually looking for how to play Believe...what a tough song to sing... Anyway, I grew up with America and your playing on it is excellent... I'm going to work it up for our little group... Thanks Kirby.

  • What a coincedence, the casino I work for (Thunder Valley Casino & Resort) just started holding big name concerts in celebration of they're grand opening of the new 300 room hotel. The 1st weekend of this month was Lionel Ritchie, Tesla, Dwight Yokum & America. 2 days ago we had Smokie Robinson (fellow Detroiter) and next saturday will be Peter Cantera. I think he's jazz since I don't reaaly know him that well.

  • Wow! Up late Kirby. It says this video was posted 2 hours ago. That would make it 9:16pm PST making it 12:16am your time. Good video btw.
