I used to fly sea planes although never actually participated in converting them seasonally between land and sea. However, my understanding is that this is common when converting back to sea. For converting from sea, EDO says you can safely land the floats in the grass, although you'd never be able to take off that way. :)
@davonizdashit The controls on a sea plane are conventional. The only difference is that we have a cable we pull on in the cockpit that raises, lowers the sea rudders. The sea rudders are interconnected with the rudder.High speed with the rudders down is suppose to be bad for them; although I never tried it. We'd also pick up floating grass and debris and would raise/lower the sea rudders to clear them off. Of course above about 15 mph the tail rudder is effective and you don't need sea rudders.
Fantastic, but this would actually be classified as a 'Floatplane', a normal plane adapted for water landings/ takeoff. as opposed to a 'Seaplane' which has a waterproof hull & no need for floats.
This was the most interesting "launching" of a seaplane that I have ever seen. If you think that the pilot is a bit crazy, just remember the driver of that white Suburban either has tons of faith in the wild pilot or is just as crazy as the pilot, or maybe both! What a thrill it must have been to feel the trailer go light and the plane to pass you from above!

davonizdashit 11 months ago
@davonizdashit The ailerons and tailerons (Called elevators in aviation) Are powered in a j3 cub by a series of wires, along with the rudder.
Supershanker123 9 months ago
@Supershanker123 they are actually powered by the pilot, through a series of cables.

atvmaster281 1 year ago
The plane is a Piper J-3 Cub seaplane, if anyone's wondering. It also teaches you how to take off from a solid runway in a seaplane. LOL

Thats pretty impressive, now all he has to do is land on the trailer lol.
In fact in FSX flight simulator there is a mission where you do just that!
