HI Graham, would u recommend this preamp particularly when we have a clone of Neve 1073 on the LS56? Do you hear a difference between this one and the Golden Age?
PLEASE HELP, ive been wondering for a while, how to run audio out of pro tools, and run it though some effects and record it back into pro tools!? how is this done? PLEASE HELP
Need help bought the golden age and plugged it into the mbox 2 sounds good thru the speakers but when play back after recording sounds super distorted
Thanks very the info. Very informative. I'll be Ordering this today. I can only find it for 349.00 though. Do you know of a site where it's still 299.00?
I'm also using an Mbox for pro-tools. Is that all I'll need to use this pre-amp on my PC?
I Have A M.Audio Box ...But I Can't hear Myself In The Headphones While I'm Rapping In This Certain Program...Do I Need A Pre Amp For My Mic?... And If I Do ...I Dont Want It To Change The Sound I Have Now So Is There A Preamp That Is Just For Boosting Your Mic In The Headphones And Not Changing Your Sound?
@Myreverlation This is a software (or M-audio) related issue. You don't need another preamp, you just need to figure out how to setup your headphone mixes with your system.
@lightsaved I am using a GAP 73 pre modified by ZenPro audio with carnhill transformers and tantalum transistors with a Rode NTK. If you wanna check out a song I did with this setup check my song Rack and Ruin out on ReverbNation or Myspace. Just do a search for Wyatt Scott. I write and record my original punk and folk songs. I absolutely love my GAP and My NTK and highly recommend that pairing. The K2 is even better I've heard than the NTK so I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Hi Graham.. do you think that GAP preamp will improve the quality of my recordings made with the preamps of my m audio fast track pro? The noise floor on the FTP is not so low! Thanks!
@lucaandfriends I don't believe that simply swapping preamps will make your recordings improve. There are many other things I would suggest before buying a preamp like the GAP. So it's hard for me to say in your case :-)
Great review. I'm thinking about picking up one of these myself. A bit OT but who is the artist that you played at the end for the example? I really like his sound and would like to pick it up if it's for sale anywhere.
HI your tutorials are awesome, I was wondering if you could you do a video on how to setup the mic pre? I really want to buy a mic pre, but i'm not a 100% sure how to hook it up to my Mbox 2 mini?
@triclops8 I understand, but I just find those listening tests pointless. With so many mic choices, vocalists, rooms to record in, settings used, it could sound very different. I just picked one simple use of it so you could hear it in action.
@recordingrevolution Of course in a test comparing the sound with/without that preamp, the vocalist, the mic and the room should be the same;-) But I don´t want complain that much, thanks for your video, I´m thinking about getting one of these myself for a couple of weeks now.
It's not solid state? It is in FACT solid state! There are two types of mic pres....tube and SOLID STATE! It's not tube, so take a wild guess which one it is?
@jamesbordy I spoke incorrectly. Meant to distinguish the fact that it is a discrete signal path with transformers, unlike more budget pres. Annotation is made.

@Myreverlation I'm not sure if im going about it all wrong - but it helps and its been working for me
i buss a compressor to my vocal track during recording - that way no plugin is on the vocal track itself while im recording
then i adjust the volume of that buss track or send - accordingly as i track my vocals
usually - i turn it up more as i turn the music up in my headphones
(i dont have a separate volume knob for my headphones)
i never use that buss for final compression tho - thats just me

Have you tried the Steve Slate Virtual Console upon mixing?
Does it have enough Neve vintage sound?

@GatewayXl Hard to make a claim like that. Lots of great vocal preamps out there. This one is excellent.

Thank you, but it´s not really obvious without knowing which mic you used and without having a with/without pre 73 situation to compare.
