Octopi are really nothing to be afraid of, they hide from us humans most of the time. Saw cuttlefish the other time just staring straight at me. Those creatures are more afraid of us than us of them. Just to clarify a couple of things- Natural Selection doesn't create species, it refines characteristics to enable a particular species to adapt to it's surroundings. Furthermore, the process by which this happens is indeed by favouring the organisms that happen to benefitted from random gene mutations.

I would agree that for entire species to have evolved by this same process seems absurd.

The Chattanooga (Tennessee) Aquarium has a great display of weedy sea dragons. It's one of my favorite exhibits, and the grassy-green ones look almost exactly like the foliage in their tank. Mesmerizing to watch.
