schlimm, dass alterne Diven davon singen, wie sie jungen Mädchen nachts an die Kammer klopfen. Das trau ich dann doch einem Terry Wey einfach eher zu! Also - junge Stimmen für dieses wunderbare Lied!
A lovely rendition. Our Sydney Male Choir sings this with a lovely young mezzo and I think we acquit ourselves quite well. I am another who likes the richness of a full male choir singing with precision and delicateness. I will try to get permission to post our version.
There's a beautiful interpretation of this song on YouTube with Terry Wey and the Vienna Boys' Choir, but they sing only the first verse. This one is more complete and very beautiful too. Schubert is divine!
I love both interpretations. This one here with Juliane Banse is sublime! And also more complete, with the a 2nd. part. But I also love Terry Wey and listen to it all the time. I think he sings extremely well. Could you explain why not? Cheers.
I will try to answer your question: Terry Wey's interpretation is absolute-ly unerotic. I don't like his acting style, his gestures, his eyes up with-out any expression. The boys of Vienna Boys' Choir always look very arro-gant, perhaps they think, that only they are the truly elite. I do not cri-ticize his technique of singing. I believe that the "Ständchen" is not com-posed for a boy's choir. Of course this is a matter of taste.
Schubert had, basing on a misunderstanding between him and the client, Miss Fröhlich, the "Ständchen" composed for a men's choir with an Alt-solo-voice and a few days later he composed a new version for girl's choir with mezzo-soprano. I think, Schubert's first composition is authentic and that is why I prefer the interpretation by Juliane Banse with men's choir.
i dont think that the interpretation with terry wey is terrible, he got an amazing voice! but in my opinion its such more beautyfull with a men choir in the background...
You are right. Maenner Chor is a misunderstanding. If someoene can recognize what Zöegernd leise is, would choose Maedchen Chor or even younger voices. I heard it for the first time from a Chilren choir with a 10 year old boy's solo, and I can't get rid of that impression.
I am a member of the ohio state university men's glee club, and we recently performed this piece. it's a very beautiful piece, and this performance is very well done.

The interpretation with Terry Wey and the Vienna Boys Choir is terrible! Juliane Banse -that's really beautiful music!

But how should a 10 yer old boy know what it means to knock at the beloved's chamber door. That would absolutely not match the content of the song.
Even a Männerchor can be hesitantly quiet in the dark of the night's stillness. I personally prefer this interpretation to a childrens' choir.
