Andy Williams also did this Incredible song. And I for the sake of god can't find it. BUT I do have a copy of I recorded off of the radio back in the 1970's on a cassette.
When I listen to this song I feel compelled to compare it with those produced by the talentless wannabes who continue to emerge from the likes of the X factor. This is proper singing from a huge natural talent not the over sung, over produced and over hyped rubbish from the current crop of so called stars. I feel privileged to have witnessed Elvis at his very best - he will live on forever. I too heard it for the first time on Radio 2 on Sat morning.
@Monterey2am like u i heard this for the first time on radio 2 on sat morning this song should be released as a single and just watch it go to number 1 hi sings this better than neil diamond ( sorry to all the neil diamond fans)
Elvis was also blessed with a caring and loving heart. He believed in sharing his good fortune. Elvis is a wonderful gentleman inside and out. I love Elvis.
all of us who were blessed to have seen Elvis live on stage are just that....blessed ! Elvis had a relationship with his fans that todays artists could not even comphrehend let alone achieve. When he died it was as though we had lost a close family member. We are all better for having known him. We miss you E !!

One of my all time favourite tracks by any artist. It still give me goosebumps everytime I hear it. For me this was Elvis best recording period. Thanks for posting it
So sad Elvis, you are gone from us yet you will live forever in eternity. I think where you are now the music must be beyond great. Wonderful music was your element. You are free now and travel between the winds.
I'm currently reading George Klein's book, "Elvis, My Best Man" and he has a story about this. Klein had met Neil Diamond at the American Sound Studios, where he had just recorded Sweet Caroline, and taken him to his (Klein's) TV show. ND gave GK his personal phone number in case a chance came to do something with Elvis. When Elvis booked the studio, GK called ND and ND sent an acetate of this song by special delivery. GK took it to Graceland and Elvis loved it. (page 196 - it's a great book)
@alimac42 That you will my Love no one will ever sing as the King did. He was our King of music but he belonged to GOD thats the reason many times in the middle of a show he would just switch a song because he listened to the BIG MAN UPSTAIRS. GOD gave this gift to ELVIS and ELVIS never let him down not one time. Did he sin. Yes We all do. But when it came to hearing the voice of GOD he knew what GOD wanted him to do. This is one of the reasons he was so LOVED because he LOVED US. Hugs Bobbie
Elvis sings this even better than Neil Diamond. He again takes a song and makes it uniquely Elvis' version. It was delightful to listen to this today!
American Studios in Memphis was double booked on the day this was recorded - with Elvis and Neil Diamond so they made a deal that Elvis could have the studio as long as he recorded one of his songs and this is the result
@leon41075 I don't believe that.Never heard of that before. How could you double book a studio with the biggest star on the planet and Neil Diamond.Either it's bollocks or somebody wasn't doing their job.
Leon41075 is partially wrong. Neil Diamond had the studio booked, but once Chips Moman found out Elvis was in town looking to record he said, "Fuck Neil Diamond...get Elvis here." Elvis, a good friend of Neil Diamond, felt bad about it and asked Diamond if he could record some of his tracks. The rest is history.
@leon41075 Actually, Elvis was a pretty good show biz friend with Neil Diamond. Neil had wanted Elvis to cover one of his songs for a very long time. They hadn't found the right song to do it with until this came along. Neil sent it to Elvis and he liked it enough to record it. The rest is music history and better than music present with Elvis' voice. The King of Rock, Country, Soul, the King of music.
I have that same lip thing, so I love doing the "little mama", quote. Elvis was by far the most beautiful man, I think I have ever seen. He was just too damn good looking...
@brad04970 What am I hearing??? This has nothing to do with no one doing Elvis covers. I am a huge fan of Elvis even visited Graceland.......like I said Neil Diamond performs this in a much more moving way. That simple, it's not a hate message for Elvis's singing, merely making a comment, which I am free to do.
Also I see your other comment about what the song was about......It is a love song........and a very beautiful love song with touching lyrics.
Really like this song, Back in 69 - 70's Elvis started getting a lot of B side songs,, then Neil wrote this for Elvis... Elvis asked G.Cline what the song ment... I'm not sure but, I think he wanted to make sure it wasn't a hippie song...
Thanks for Posting We'll never forget you Elvis... your music will live on forever
he should have donated his seed sperm to have more of him surely one would be a singer like daddy. Oh heaven oh GOD what a loss...bring on another Angel like him to sing for us.....I know I had one just like him or better myrddjpcpcbbasggs.
written by the legendary Neil Diamond, one of the few recording artists who could compete artistically and commercially with the King in the 70's. Elvis did a great rendition of this song but Neil had the feeling behind it that only the original songwriter/singer could possess.

Elvis did the best version of this song. Second was by Mark Lindsay and the Diamond version was third best. However, the Elvis version was best due to the back-up refrain.
i think i have loved elvis for as long as i can remember. i still sit and look at his pictures and i still cry just like i did when i was about 3 yrs old. i guess true love never dies. to look at his beautiful smile still has the same affect on me as it always has. i will love you for ever and ever my precious elvis aron presley!!!
