I saw Robin play for Cardiff City. He was SO talented but as with most geniuses he had a dark side which led to his untimely death. But a great player no doubt.
I am one of the fortunates who did see this guy play. I watched Reading in those days and can say without a doubt to this day he was the most gifted player I have ever seen. Such a shame his ability was overwhelmed by his personal difficulties.
I saw Robin play in the 75-76 season & can say that I often saw him being fouled against but never himself engaging in dirty play.
He was obviously a rough character though.Reading player & columnist for the Post Eamon Dunphy never mentions him in any comments tho I suspect that has something 2 do with jealousy as his footballing talent was dwarfed by Robin's own.
never heard of him but judgeing from what little i now know he is one of our footballing gems of yester year who are only known by those who saw them ,it would be great if a programme came along introducing the likes of friday to the world who never witnessed their flair and charisma. P.S. anyone who can do what he supposedly did in Mark Lawrencens bag deserves a mention of being a character ,gazza or best were' nt that sure of themselves lmao.
I saw him play!!! One overiding memory which in hindsight is typical Friday; Reading were at home to Sheffield Wednesday Oct 76 and Wednesday had a huge following-easy half the 9000 crowd and packed out most of the ground, with a few Reading mingling where they could. Chris Turner-very young Wednesday keeper -gathers the ball up and Friday runs up to him, jigs in front to stop him kicking the ball out then-about 1000 Wednesday fans behind Turners goal -Friday gobs in Turners face! Cue near riot!
@MrStrawhatlegend He was from the materials for sure. Those who were there-and many who weren't-still refer to the 'Tranmere goal'. Re lack of footage, Southern TV DEFINEATELY had cameras at the 1976 came v Crewe where Friday scored and probably have more archieve film providing it wasn't lost stolen or destroyed when Meridian or whoever took over the franchise. Might be worth nudging them to see if they'll put it on you tube so a few more can see the great man.
duxberry1958 is so right - he shot, he scored, it must be Peter Ward!

read his Wikipedia entry. I would suspect that you either loved him or hated him if you actually came across him personally.
