First off i would like to say Fulltone claims it has 9 F.E.T's not 5. its got 2 MOSFETS. but the real beauty of this pedal is that the Dist side has an inductor driven mid pot. the real tone is all in the mid scoop. If you think the OCD sounds better than the GT your mistaken. I work at Guitar center and I sat this pedal next to the OCD today. You can get the GT to sound EXACTLY like the OCD. Except you can tell the OCD is a little muddier. This pedal in my experience is AMAZING.
I heard some guy use this pedal live with a riviera amp it sounded good for all kinds and styles of rock he was trying to emulate but being critical as I usually am about tone, it had a artificial processed tone especially when the notes were fading out if you know what I mean, but not super noticeable, I guess for the money it's not bad, computer speakers do not do this pedal justice, it sounds a hell of a lot better live. I need a good distortion pedal any suggestions?
Unfortunately, the audio on this video is compressed, so you can't really hear the volume difference from the bypass signal when engaging the boost and/or distortion. I have the Gt-500, and the volume difference is HUGE. I have to make the boost section my clean sound and the distortion section my dirty sound in order to make it useable for shows. It sounds good, but I just can't see it being useable as a boost and distortion along with the true amp sound...
the cool thing about this pedal, for me is that I play a Fender which has no Mid on the clean channel. and its nice to have the distortion pedal HAVE a Mid.
this pedal can dial in a nice andy timmons tone, smooth crunch, distortion like on Electric Gypsy, and a high gain smooth overdrive like eric johnson, and anything in between. With the right setting on the booster you can achieve metal tones and scoop the mids for metallica.
Because it seems like no matter what kind of pedal I use, the vox gives me a low sustain, sort of crunchy sound, never a really rocking distortion. I love the tone for some things, but i need versatility. Is it just the amp? i can't seem to get good sustain out of any pedal I use. Even when I use a compression pedal in there with it...
Now I am planning on getting a Electric Harmonix Big Muff, Boss Metal Zone. Will that cover most distortion pedal needs. Oh I am planning on hooking up EQ Equalizer to each to maybe alter each distortion pedal.
Funny you say OVER DO IT, I cant find a distortion that has enough drive to it.Some slightly more then others. EVERY pedal I ever hear sounds like this one does.
I've just bought this pedal and the angle of the switches is not a problem for me, I find them very confortable, but probably you're used to flat switches, but believe me, this pedal is great!!!
Yes,gray is older version, but you can do some mods on it if you don't like the sound, just send an email to fulltone and they'll send you PDF with detailed instructions on how to mod earlier ones.Or you can go cusack screamer.:)
None, this one has a roll off for the for the highs on the booster side. Thats is the only difference, I own the grey one. It's an ok pedal, but I don't use all of the gain it is capable of producing. I wish I went for the Tonebone Plexitube.
hey man Im curious on wether you got the tonebone plexitube or not. knowing that this is 6 months late. Why would you have gotten the tone bone instead? im looking at buying a new distortion/ boost pedal
Thats what I ended up with for my 80's hard rock tones, and EVH's brown sound, have yet to hear a pedal get that tone better, specially when in line with his sig MXR pedals.Almost dead on through my amps anyway, and I run everything through my effects loop.
Are you going to register a video-comparison between this pedal and MI Audio Crunch Box, by chance? I'd like to appreciate differences between the two distortions. Do they share the same gain range?
Pretty much, the Distortion side is a little different, but in a live situation I don't think you would be able to tell the difference between a Distortion Pro and this.
the distortion pro and the distortion side of the gt are entirely different circuits. the DP is very 80's hair band distortion while the gt is basically an ac15 circuit with mosfets in place of tubes.
Very classic Stones sounding overdrive, dig it so far. The distortion side still has a very natural breakup to it, I can dig that too. Good job Fulltone.
Man i wanted a combo pedal since i saw the Jekyll and Hyde pedal, but that one sounded just your run of the mill distortion pedal and overdrive. This one sounds fantastic. I bought it straight off

PGS~~, which one has more gain? The vox satchurator or the gt-500? :)
mingoos4294 2 months ago
Its not really an equal comparison with this pedal and the OCD. This is a distortion and the OCD is a overdrive. Different tones and sounds.

So this vs. the Jekyll & Hyde - what are people's thoughts?

@bethchilcoat This one seems to be more versatile as far as tone goes.

Any video will be compressed but Youtube likes to muck around with the audio even more. Check out the original video on our website. Thanks!

Why can`t you just turn the distortion kknob all the way up??!!!

jasonater12,
I own and highly recommend the Fulltone Fulldrive 2 MOSFET (a killer sounding and very versitile pedal). You'll love it!
If you need a second pedal for heavier guitar stuff only, I would recommend the MI Audio Crunch Box.
Check out the ProGuitarShop's videos on both these two pedals, which I own and are a permanent part of my pedal board.
Good luck!

niether one can handle low gain settings well. With the big muff, it gets pretty muddy. The metal zone just won't go that low.

russian big muff is so low sometimes i use it for fuzz...also cheaper

The guys at Rudy's in NYC were raving about the GT-500. I trust the guys who build Knopfler's guitars and hook him up with amps....
So it's a 57' reissue strat with a stacked SD humbucker in the bridge -> fulltone GT-500 -> Ibanez TS9dx -> Epiphone valve junior half-stack.
It drips with even harmonics. Certainly the sickest tone i've heard rise from these fingertips...

fuck metal zone up the ass,
it sucks so hard. fuck boss in general,
cheap ass parts into way pricey pedals.
even though the gt-500 is more expensive,
it's quality rises faaar and beyond any boss pedal. Sure if it was a modded boss than we can talk, but as far as out of the box,
boss can't do shiiittt

FD2 is a dual channel overdrive. This is actually a boost pedal and a distortion pedal built in one box. This is a hell of a pedal.
