  • Thts an octopus not a cuttlefish

  • This is not a cuttlefish.

  • Here is a theoretical question. Why does the radio show Science Friday, broadcast on 8/5/2011, make it seem as if it were taking the cellophane wrapper off this video, but the comments date to nine months ago as of 8/5/2011.

  • i believe that video is ov an octopus

  • Wow. This just shows how powerful our Creator, Jehovah God is.

  • @iluvskittles83 lolwut never heard of evolution?

  • I never saw a cuddle fish in the corral I did however see the octopus... get your facts straight...

  • 00:29 i see noth- OH FUCK JESUS WHERE DID THAT COME FROM

  • actually, cuttlefish, octopuses, and squid are all cephalopods (as are nautiluses). you wouldn't be wrong by saying, "look at the cephalopod in this video."

  • I am thoroughly annoyed as this isnt a cuttlefish at all..it's an octopus. dear me.

  • I saw this on the same prog too - One of the finest examples of how Evolution plays its roll in the survival of the fittest.

Maybe Creationists will evolve in time with this technique?

  • @NatureWasFirst

oh yeah, you are in denial sir, keep telling yourself this sophisticated system of camoflauge evolved rofl. complex systems do not evolve, they are designed.

  • Let us dear friends not forget our dear friends the cuttlefish... XD

  • I don't know what it was exactly, but that was AWESOME!!! I totally wish I could do that!

  • I want one

  • A very nicely edited video. It practically looks real.

... wait, you mean... it's not edited?

  • I think that's a cuttlefish, I mean i think "fish" is just a misnomer someone made up years ago. Cuttlefish are in the same class as octopi and squid. It's hard to identify them because they look different every time and can do a pretty good fish imitation at a distance.

  • @pravinmb they call them fish because they swim in the sea. They use this logic because the term was coined by christians. These are the same people who class beavers as fish.

  • However, Dprjones. That's an octopus.

  • The cuttle fish is and has always been my favourite animal.

  • Cthulhu f'taghn, Cthulhu f'taghn!!!

  • If we ever die out, cephalopods will DEFINITELY fill our current niche.

  • holy shit. imagine if we can master a technology of this kind of camouflage ability!

  • @Takiado SNAAAAAKE!!!

  • @Takiado

    We could very easily.

    Just cover yourself in octopi

  • I'm sure there is a way to implicate this information into making camouflage that makes one transparent in a way.

  • Holy shit! I would have woken up my "wife", if my vocal ligaments weren't paralyzed.

  • That's kinda scary O_O

  • O. M. G.

  • that was pretty f***ing cool

  • Was this real? holy shit.

  • SPAWN MOAR OVARLORDS!

  • I love octopi!!!!! So badass.. Even more badass--- WONDERPUS!

  • This cuttlefish has shown us how, properly, not to be seen. (BOOM)

  • Cuttlefish or not, that's amazing.

  • Octopuses, ninjas of the ocean.

  • This is the mimic octopus, discovered in 1998. It can mimic rocks, coral, plant life and other fish.

    Truly an amazing creature

  • A cuttlefish is a cephalopod.

  • ╭∩╮⎛○⏜⏟〤○⎞╭∩╮

  • fuck me that scared the shit out of me

  • win

  • Not to be mean or anything but that is a freaking octopus. Note eight tentacles, texture changing abilities, ink, and color changing. All of which fit under octopus. Oh and boneless. :D

  • Think about all the creatures that may be around us right now today, on land, in the air, and in the sea, that have evolved camouflage similar to this!

What could actually exist around us all the time, evolved to never be seen by human eyes, the prospects are mind-boggling.

  • It's a cephalopod, a mimic octopus. This was presented at the TED conference a while back. Can be found if you search for Mimic Octopus TED on youtube

  • Awesome!! Imagine if humans had this adaptation... It would probably be annoying because we'd camaflouge with anything, even if we didn't want to..

  • braavo :D

  • The fish gave him away

    Camera follows fish.

    fish goes to weeds.

    Fish suspish and swims away

    Brainyfoot misses meal.

    turns pale and inks away

  • That fucker was invisible. Probably tastes pretty good too. We should totally overfish them to extinction.

  • Whether its a cuttlefish or octopus that was amazing!

  • Dpr discovers nature!

  • cuttle fish rock, they probably taste like every food on the planet as well.

  • Um you do realise that athiest means that you dont believe in a GOD. And since lucifer is a fallen angel you are ALSO and athiest.

Your arguments have more holes in them than a colander.

Im sick of wasting my time on you red neck american scum. Peace out

  • *not a satanist its meant to say.

  • @rhysc375

no you obviously are thinking of the double edge sword let me fill you in, in dummy terms so you can understand....

first off don't ever take that tone with me, your are lucky you are not near me becuase I would rip off your tounge and feed it to my snake....

Now satan hates you because god told him to worship you when that moron Adam came about, but he also loves how you attack god in a way that has some effectiveness...you also made it so we can worship the devil now...

  • @Angelsword135 Creationist tacit if your losing: Change your stance -> attack the other person -> Threaten with violence.

The next fail in your dumbass change of heart is that you forgot your youtube name is 'Angelsword' Not very satanic is it?

  • @rhysc375

atheist tactic when they don't know what to do -> come up with BS -> put words in ones mouth -> claim they are something else - > not realize I threatened you with violence on my first post

You do realize angels are evil as well right....

You are definitely worthy or smart enough to fulfill what I ask

You live in denial, and wanna believe your intentions instead of looking at the obvious.

I can assure you I say what I am, and I want nothing more then pain inflicted on u

  • @rhysc375

i can sense your hate, I can give you more if you please to satisfy that urge..

i stole something from an atheist today that was meaningful to him, since he believes his life is meaningless i figured why else would he need it, then I gave it to a believer........

this is 10 times more promotion of hate then a little fairy like yourself does on the internet....i can build this war far greater than you can, and that bothers you, because you have limitations and I don't

  • @Angelsword135 i can sense your hate, I can give you more if you please to satisfy that urge.. feel the power of the darkside of the force!

  • @izovire \

hahah yeah it's easy to be a smartass behind the computer....now I see why atheists promote science so much, it helps them be more a pussy then they already are...since we all know you pussies never talk shit to religious peoples face...

so lets hide behind a computer

  • @rhysc375

am I actually on drugs or am I more sane, since I am totally detached from the world of my enemy that you and I both hate....temptation is stong little one, you ever get the urge to punch a believer in the face, but can't because of laws...keep preaching and this roadblock will be moved...

do you understand what im saying now, im trying to help you as well as destroy you at the same time...it is the double sword that is life....i shall return...

  • Wow that is one of the most amazing videos I have seen in a while.

  • I'm pretty sure the atheists will be hiding when the religious ones retaliate to the blasphemy.

Just keep running your mouths and disrespecting the ones that got you lazy ones here. We can only stand back for so long, just be prepared for the retaliation because it WILL happen, and the disease that is atheism will be taking care of....

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    oh yeah

    USA > UK

  • @Angelsword135 ummmmmmm... wat?

  • @Angelsword135 The asylum was the turnoff BEFORE this one. Best of luck with your treatment.

  • @rabidsi

to me you are the one who belongs in the asylum....

Your treatment is giving me your address so I can fuck your crackwhore of a mother and put it on youtube.....that way your new treatment will be for you to watch over and over as I satisfy myself

  • @Angelsword135 Everybody, I present you the representative of the all loving and peaceful god. Angelsword135.

But seriously dude, you need help.

  • @rhysc375

wait wait what happened that argument you morons always use about the Old testament god?

Why is bad now, but ok in other arguments

ladies and gentleman I declare to you HYPOCRISY on the biggest piece of shit cult out there....ATHEISM....one more contradiction to the ones who live meaningless lives

    Wooooo hooo

  • @Angelsword135 wow your really on a rant arent you? BTW I dont believe in either god so there is no hypocrisy from me when I point out what YOU believe in.

Maybe try to understand your arguments first.

Atheism is rising dude, its coming to get YOU! Im helping, Im doing all I can to make more 'good honest' christians join me in devil worship where we eat babies and break as many commandments as we can.

Anyway... Just relax dude, you only live once. enjoy it :-)

  • @rhysc375

so if its rising then why are there more muslims then ever

AWWW you actually believe what you read because your so gullible and stupid

Awww it's ok.....you don't know what honestly is by the way, all i see is another faggot lover who has no respect for authority. Satan smiles upon thee, for he has told me you mother would have aborted you if it was legal back then....

Now we live in a world where I can safely worship the devil....I like what you atheists are doing LOLOL

  • @Angelsword135 You will also find there are more athiests since the rise of religion.

Also i actually challenge ideas. unlike you, as I can guarantee you were not born hindu, muslim, buddhist, jewish. You just stick with your outdated and constantly disproved holy book.

Also you speak with satan??? thats gotta be against some rule doesnt it?

Your not loving me? Do you think Jesus would act like you do? I think he'd be nicer and try and win friends that way.

  • @rhysc375

it seems I must repeat myself again since you are too dumb and naive to see that I do not follow the lord, but yet follow the prince of this world..Satan...

You ever feel the temptation to kill someone you don't like? I ask you atheists to keep preaching your beliefs because as gods law dies, my laws strengthen...and this urge can be fulfilled...

I love that I can worship the Devil without it being a law anymore, I am taking full appreciation towards it right now...

  • @Angelsword135 Dude your on drugzzzz. I know your now a fucking satanist. Your first post was talking about how atheism is a disease and how its blasphemy and that the religious will retaliate.

Now you say you love us and that we should keep doing our work?

    You got schooled!

  • Thats not a cuttlefish on the coral. It's an octopus.

  • One of the most amazing things I have ever seen: Check out "Mimic Octopus" on pangeaprogress' channel!

  • Jesus Christ, if I was swimming and this thing decloaked in front of me I'd have a heart attack.

  • @EclecticSceptic Yup, I'd proper shit my pants too.

  • Thank you for the great video!!

  • That's really amazing. Anyone know what species that is?

  • Demints started the recession!!!

  • I wanna have a suit made out of cuttlefish skin and then hunt down some special forces meat heads on a black ops mission in some distant south American jungle, collecting their bones and skulls as personal trophies.

...thumbs up if you're with me!

  • I know there should be a good Chuck Norris joke about this but I'm at a loss.

  • @VeritasLiber lmao,great comment and I must admit that i`m at a loss too :)

  • @VeritasLiber Alright I got one ... The only reason he can hide that good is he's hiding from Chuck Norris.

  • Ninjas look at that and go "man...I suck at hiding"

  • @VeritasLiber

20 Generations ago, my dojo's Sensei taught cuttlefish how to do that

  • You just know this thing has a shoulder-mounted plasma gun, can see your body heat, and sports wrist-blades.

Fuckin' cephalopds: how do they work?

  • Cuttlefish or cephalopod? An odd title considering that cuttlefish is a kind of cephalopod.

  • I love cuttlefish!

  • Well fuck. What ever that was it wins at hid and seek.

  • THIS IS PROOF OG GODS EXISTANCE

  • @waksibra No... it's proof of octopi...

  • pretty sure that one is an octopus. Both are cephalopods, true, but you can tell by the shape of the head. still, awesome animal

  • That's an octopus, but they're both amazing animals. While diving in Indonesia, my instructor and I were poking around, and a pair of cuttlefish came to check us out. It was like a dog...truly interested in us, and they even came up and let us pet them very gently. When we pet them, waves of color would go down their skin. A cuttlefish version of wagging their tail, maybe? It was my most amazing interaction with a wild animal ever. A truly smart and phenomenally interesting animal.

  • @blurglide Wow that sounds pretty interesting. =]

  • 0:31 That was... startling. Good thing they don't consider humans tasty....

  • Could I have a pet cuttlefish and train it to sit on my head and make me look taller?

  • It's a cuttlefish disguised as an octopus! That's just how good it is...

  • Cool video, however it's been on youtube for 3 or 4 years.

  • Wow!

  • I'd like to have that ability. It would be so useful when you're in the yard and the jahovahs witness walk up.

  • i think i can see it but it looks just like the rest of the coral. bottom right corner of te rock

  • All cuttlefish are cephalopods, not all cephalopods are cuttlefish. Cephalopod in the video is a type of octopus.

  • Sure, octopus, but I'm glad you posted this. I had no idea that either one was that good at camouflage. Very cool.

  • shit im listening to system of a down while im watching this.

    Pretty awesome.

  • Such a nanerpuss...

  • I wonder if the army are looking into adapting something like this for use in battle.

  • I've always been amazed by adaptive cephalopod camouflage. There must be some really interesting features in their visual cortex that allows them to map something and retain the visual memory in great detail, correlate that map to the object they perch on and then change their skin pigmentation to match. Just an amazing collection of adaptations.

  • Err.....that's an octopus!

  • @crabbit101 I concur, the heavily disguised creature in the later portion is an octopus. Cuttlefish have much less control over their body shape and surface texture than octopi, and consequently are less good at that type of hiding in plain view. It is a commonplace way for an octopus to hide from predators or wait to ambush prey, however. (Given that it dropped ink when it jetted off, it appears to have been hiding from the filming diver.)

  • Damm nature, You scary

  • fake.

  • The ocean has some crazy shit living in it!

  • Cool!

  • The one at the end is sooo an octopus.

Cuttlefish are so cute though -they're like the kittens of the Cephalopoda, only they never out of their cuteness like cats do.

  • That was wild!

  • Cuttle fish are all around Korea. One strange fact about cuttlefish is they are colourblind. Talk about amazing!

Oh yeah, let's not forget about the octopus. They can also blend in with their environment quite well. Sometimes much better than cuttlefish because they have no bones so they can morph into many shapes and can comourflage their skin to match their environment.

  • That clip's a really old Youtube classic. It went viral years ago.

  • /watch?v=PmDTtkZlMwM

  • Comment removed

  • IMPOSSIBRU!

  • Porn for PZ!

  • Cuddlefish!

  • I think this is what Borat was referring to when he mentions Jewish Shape Shifters.

  • that is so awesome!

    ninjas of the sea...

  • Awesome. :o

  • probably paul the octopus is just a cuttlefish camouflaged as an octopus and this cuttlefish is also just a camouflage of the flying spaghetti monster

  • That's just brilliant.

  • CUTTLEFISH <3

  • Hey guys, that's me, I'm sorry I scared some of you, I was hiding from some gangsters and thought you were them so I ran like crazy. Again, apologies.

  • AHA! Gotcha you evolutionist! you dont know every single detail as to how that evolved! That means it DIDNT!!

    bwahahahahhaha

Ugh I get commentz like that :-(

  • Ninja 'pus! :p

  • Fuck me! That made me jump.

  • wow thats like Predator decloak infront of you.

  • Damn. I am always entertained by watching these amazing creatures.

  • Amazing

  • This is old, its been floating around the internet for years. Its an octopus.

  • :D That is impressive. I never guessed that the cuttlefish was there. I thought you superimposed the image of a cuttlefish. I was wrong.

  • Holy fuck! dpr, you're the man.

  • My FAVORITE animal in the whole world!!!!

  • wow

  • It thrills me to no end, to see someone take the time to give these creatures a little respect. Cuttlefish and Octopi are amazing creatures. Very intelligent, curious, and even playful at times.

  • See, I realized where it was before it changed, but the speed with which it did so still surprised me.

  • Once in grade school we took a trip to the coast to check out the tide pools. I happened to find a very small octopus in a pool, and when I brought my hand closer to it, it changed from a brown tone to a flesh tone and clung to my hand. Then the other kids came over and messed with it and it turned red and sprayed ink all over, and then we let it go.

    Fun times.

But yes, octopi can change to a variety of colors.

  • @hgryphon wouldn't be touching too many octopi ... they can be highly poisonous

  • @Oddessuss So can the right kind of girl. ;)

  • it's quite obviously CGI. Some animals can change their colours, they can't turn into seaweed.

  • @eveningniteshade wait what? Except its not CGI. LMAO

  • @eveningniteshade you quite obviously dont understand camouflage :/ it worked so well you believed it to have turned into seaweed. thats the whole point of the mechanism in the first place (i.e., to look like something you know you arent)

  • @eveningniteshade It is not.

  • did you just watch the 4 part series on giant squid from WhyEvolutionisTrue?

  • LOL WTF!! That's practically scifi level camoflague!

    Damn, nature! You scary!!

  • @Paur Kudos for Family guy reference :D

  • Cuttlefish are cephalopods along with the Nautilus, octopi and squids.

  • I saw this before. You should check out the vid where the cuddlefish was on a black and white striped background. It is the camouflage master.

  • neat

  • It's an octopus not a cuttlefish and both of those animals are cephalopods.

  • They're the predators of the sea.

  • Octopus not cuttlefish, and that is one of my favorite sequences.

  • Hey, cuttlefish are cephalopods too, so you win no matter what!

  • that is amazing omfg

  • When they're fried, you can taste the intelligence.

  • Octocammo

  • That's an octopus...

  • Some crazy shit in the ocean!

  • Clever old cephalopod!

  • It appears to be a Caribbean Octopus, They are master of disguise. I was on a dive a few years back in Cozumel and came across one. I tried to point it out to the other divers in the group, but they couldn't see it. So I grabbed a still shots of it before I gave it a prod. Just like in this video, bang! Off like a shot and cloud of ink.

Squids are another cephalopod that are great at colour manipulation of their skins

  • Now I know why they are such masters of camouflage. Every second comment here is about how they want to eat the critters!

    lol

  • Holy shit

  • Wow!

  • I have to say this again!

  • Wow!
