  • first song that made me cry :)

  • Every time i listen it, i feel the same way. Never changes how deeply it touches me, maybe the most beautiful and sincere pearl jam song.

  • This is a very nice song but I hate how Matt Cameron play it live , this song should be played always with brushes or hot rods , I love Matt (he is one of my influences) but he plays too hard and fast this song live... this drummer in this video play it very well.

  • @godzuki444 I think its Jack Irons. I haven't really noticed Matt playing it too fast but I probably will now.

  • magnificent lyrics.

by the way... is that a tear in 4:26?

  • Is there a magical place I can download this whole concert?

  • This song is so true to me and my life... Eddie you are a genius!

  • Ingenious song. I never get the right time, after listening a thousand times... Nevertheless, this song is better the more i listen to it

  • @friendofmisery2 In former times, i could'nt understand the hype about Pearl Jam, i classified them as "boring", but now--- damn good stuff

  • 2 ppl do not know who pearl jam is!!!

    Great version!

  • I like this song very much, its a very different side of Pearl Jam, I got it on my ipod by mistake and I run to this... its a nice warm up... PJ rocks... they are my Stones..

  • 1:55 - That was Gaspar?! Maaan! He is f*cking good!

  • @WertzuHun - The keys were played by Pearl Jams producer, Brendan O'Brien

  • damn, 2 people missed the like button

  • FUCK YOU (WHO DISLIKE THIS)

  • Honesty is the key, Weather it be about him or yourself...Peace

  • off he goes......a lot of people who is going though life for keeping going, but without point, no goal, no the end, walking just because.....

wake up!! and don't walk just because.....be different....

  • Can you believe watching this is free!

  • I was riding my Harley across KY yesterday going from Nashville to Lexington and the winds were so strong that it was blowing me out of my lane. I was listening to Pandora radio and this song came on...like his riding on a motorbike in the strongest winds...made me laugh.

  • @mengle2004 life is unexpectedly awesome everysecond!

beautiful, made me laugh too! ha!

  • awesome.....cannt say something else.

  • i'm in love with this

  • this is classic end of the night music...love listening to it on the drive home, pure poetry...the last 2 minutes of the song are amazing what other band can do it

  • Eddie's voice has so much power and yet at the same time it's so relaxing. In a nut shell IT'S AMAZING.

  • Best band in the world!

  • Nothings changed but the surrounding bullshit....

  • Great song, awesome band

  • Eddie Vedder said the song is about himself being a shit friend

  • @BigPoppaSmurf87 A cheeky Nirvana Unplugged New York copy's, would u agreed...respect tho

  • @BigPoppaSmurf87 fuck, i can can relate.

  • nice song

  • There is a song written for Layne in the Lost dogs album hidden after bee girl starting at 6 mins. I think it was called 02/20/02. It was the day Layne died. Might be something else too, I'm just too much of a man to check the date.

  • it is 04/20/2002,. this is the day layne died.

  • No Code best PJ album ever.

  • hey, and what about ten!?

  • I agree. or VS.

  • Know a man called Jim,one day he took a swim, the ocean he swam was so large, the current was always sweeping us further apart,in the hospital i approached him with much tact, hoping he was intact,i suggested that he should come back, but hes always drinking much too fast.Jim H if if you see this im here to help! sorry for spoiling all the other comment's,but alchohism i hope.i can get my friend through..G

  • Is that a tear I see?

  • una de las mejroes canciones de pearl jam

  • I was lucky enough to be here for this one!

    gave me chills, thanks.

  • I love this song. Great acoustic, thanks for posting!

  • jack irons was the best drummer on pearl jam, and he is always missed in the rockest songs, like Brain of J

matt cameron is not so good playing with Pearl Jam as he was with the unforgiven, unique and marvelous Soundgarden

  • thats the biggest bunch of bullshit i have ever heard

  • remember jammin this with larry joe in the car about three weeks after the concert, got a bootleg which then cost about $40. actually wore out the cassete and had to "dub" another one. unreal time in my life!

  • great to see that there are still musicians out there that write about what they love, and love what they write... Eddie Vedder =P

  • The story of "Off He Goes" concerns a friend who periodically comes whirling in and out of the protagonist's life. In an interview, Vedder revealed himself to be the friend. Vedder said, "The song "Off He Goes" is really about me being a shit friend. I'll show up and everything's great and then all of the sudden I'm outta there.

    THANKS WIKIPEDIA

  • I'm that kind of a friend too. :-(

  • This is one of my favourite PJ tracks. Eddies the man.

  • Oh my god. Seeing Eddie this emotional is perfectly overwhelming. He must've loved Layne Staley a lot to make something like this for him even though he was still alive at that time.

  • Eddie actually wrote it about himself. It's not about Layne.

  • How beautiful... how sad... how deep...

  • Is that a tear at 4:34 ?

  • yes

  • goes deep it seems, love that song :)

  • @Cuenca20 initially i thought it was sweat, but when i saw your comment i had another look, and you can see that the second Ed blinks the tear comes out of his eye! one of my all-time favourite PJ songs - amazing ^^

  • @Jizle452 yea man truely amazing ;)

  • muito bom rapa!!!!

  • zajebista piosenka, zajebisty koncert!

    Pearl Jam 4life,

    Cheers from Poland

  • can somebody find the tabs of the instruments except from the guitar who plays the chords ?

  • if you find them send them to me, i've been looking for the transcriptions for a long long time

  • gndcd402,it looks like i always come back to your videos...thanks a lot!!!

  • dude where do u get these vids?? all you need to do now is unearth porch from this show..

thanks a lot man, keep 'em comin

  • porch was from the other bridge school night in 1996...sadly theres no video of that night :(

  • legendary PJ. unrea. thanks for posting

  • wow, i miss being young(er)

  • such a good song, but there are not much tabs online, does anybody know where I cant find the tabs? (I would like the tab for the 2nd guitar too) please let me know, thankyou

  • what an awsome song!!!

  • simply brilliant!

    thanks for sharing this :)

  • Holy shit. Another PJ Bridge School vid. The only one I could find was Yellow Ledbetter.

  • Love it! Great song, great band! :D

You know... I pity those who think Pearl Jam is just "that band that plays Last Kiss". They don't know what they're missing...

    Peace!

  • Well said. I have been blessed with a girlfriend who never heard PJ before me save for "Last Kiss" and is now in love with them :)

  • Ha! That's funny to think about. It's a good song and all, but there's at least 60 songs that are so much better than Last Kiss (case in point, Off He Goes), and I think Eddie and Co. would probably agree.

  • @pjlover23 WTF is "Last Kiss"? Never heard of that PJ song!

  • @DavidFUBB your missin out man! its a cover and awsome!

  • I think it's "There he goes with his perfectly unkept clothes" and then "there he goes with his perfectly unkept hope".. tho it doesn't necessarily sound like that, but..nevermind :D

  • my 2 cents - did you guys know that eddie didn't know how to play guitar? started after Pearl Jam were ROXing this world.

  • im almost possitive you're wrong

  • try to see some footage from earlier concerts... real early. you never see him play. then more recent stuff, he started playing, but always very basic chords. hey, the guy is surrounded by musicians and that's his living. he's bound to develop it, specially if he wants it (if he's got the bug). cheers

  • I know that he didn't play guitar then but he still could, in an interview he talks about learning at a young age and whoever was teaching him wouldn't let him play bar chords, also search I've got a feeling den haag he plays guitar at the end there, also bad radio betterman

  • @fernandocostacabral

I believe he started playing guitar onstage as early as the Vs. era. Vitalogy at the latest.

  • yeah he always could play at least basic cords- may be not as well as he does now- he would not be able to right the lyrics he did without being able to play at lease a little. Mind you the first three tracks he wrote Alive, once and Footsteps had the music recorded before he but lyrics to them (whilst surfing- try and find info on the massman triology cause all these songs are related (alive then once then footsteps i think)

anyway love the debate anyway- good to see some passion

  • yea man, thats true... as far as im aware

  • No he wrote betterman before he even knew the other members of pearljam

Ive seen him playing betterman early 90s and he plays the same thing he does now

  • He said in his Storytellers interview, he wrote Betterman when he was 16.

  • he wrote it in highschool

  • it's actually "there he goes with his perfectly unkept clothes".

  • clothes...

  • probably aren't too many people who cant relate to this song. simply beautiful

  • una de las 5 mejores de los dioses

    chucho_r

  • masterpiece!!

  • that has changed, but the surrounding bullshit

  • This is something special :P love this song hehe.

  • genial gran tema mejor la interpretacion!!!
