  • thats why the world record dB at a comp was 182.4 enough to kill a human....lol need to recone that bigass sub here and reinforce it with better materials...

  • 161.3 at 16 hrtz!!!! Wow!!! Pretty insane!!

  • I used to have a subwoofer, then I took an arrow in the knee.

  • damn actors

  • I've seen it done.

  • Yep u can believe there would have been more pressure if they would have sealed up the sun roof and there cone wouldn't have failed

  • Re-try this myth with a closed roof !!

  • This is so not busted they have obviously not been to world finals USAC Try again mythbusters and work with someone who knows car audio!

  • Not busted... first, the car was falling apart, second, that was a very short period. The car would eventually fall apart if they made their "sub" better and it didn't fall apart before the car did

  • they say it cant but they havent seen the SMD 4 18's in steve meades tahoe

  • @SONIICxProductions Steve only does 143 at 18hz.

  • blah.blah.blah... WE DONT NEED THAT SH*T!

  • Buy 6 jackhammers then we talk

  • first off they need a real subs in a real box.. and obviously get a car with out a sunroof... a car with more air space and they need to put like 4 layers sound deadner on every piece of metal to reduce flex and make all the preasure find a way to exscape!!!!! REEEEEDOOOOO ITTTTTT!!!!!!!

  • All that holds the sunroof pannel in place is 4 8mm bolts attached to some pot metal lifting arms. The fact that it failed first is understandable. It looks like it just slid the panel up to the top of the adjustment slots in the bracket.

  • they didnt use 0 gauge or do the big 3

  • u dont need a enormous 50" speaker to make more decibels than this SHIT lol

make a normal sub with big amplifier and than u can test !

wtf was here ? i can do myself better speaker with normal coil and put in to my amplifier and it will play better than this paper membran

    rotfl

    first time failed in mythbusters

    i dont like it

  • i can do this i am a expert at subs they used the wrong one use the mtx audio 55 inch subwoofer and it would work

  • @123macadam yeah rite... they never got that thing over 150 db. they claimed it would do 165 + and in testing they never got it over 150 . as for my expert advice...even though i dont claim to be an expert , would be to use DDz's or premier SPL's , or DC lvl5's , SMD's , HCCA's ,XXX's something proven or 165 db

  • @mazda2284 yeah no shit.. I can't stand this video it kills me. Just because you can make some bullshit ass driver with a huge fucking cone area doesn't mean you can dismiss fucking decades of car audio research and driver building

  • i can do this i am a expert at subs they used the wrong one

  • what is the episode called

  • 6 orion hcca 15s could have fit in the gap where that subwoofer went... and they would have actually fucked that car RIGHT UP

  • That was some horrible science. They play one tone, 16hz, and with that they conclude that car windows can't be broken by a subwoofer. Try other frequencies and other brands of subwoofers to improve the science.

  • not all cars have sun roofs

  • Busted? This isn't a myth; it happens at competitions alot.

  • I bet if they called Steve Mead and got some 18 inch smd

  • @ScooterPhotographer no... they would need to call ascendant audio

  • they need to hit the right frequencies to destroy a car...the 16hz just wont do it.

if that huge woofer was doing 100-150hz i bet it would be toast!

  • throw 4 btl 18s on 20 thousand watts and that shit will break every window!!!

  • It was a good idea but bad execution.

I wish they would re-try this "myth."

  • I love how each one of you thinks you can perform better than the rest. Either enjoy the show or go make your own mythbusters episode instead of whining about using the wrong sub or whatever.

  • put some t3 tsns 18sdynamat or just deaden the whole lower half of the car (from bottom of windows down) and seal the box off at that same height, then lets see your results with htat? :P

  • shittiest subwoofer ive everseen throw 4 21 inch incriminators in their then see what happens

  • they need a spider

  • Myth...no americants are Gay

  • drop in a fi bl sub baby..lol

  • cop a REAL mtx 24 inch jackhammer. like 8 amps. and completely seal the car off from air.

  • @theo122096 dude jackhammers are super shit

  • Put some jackhammers in it. See if those retards shit themselfs

  • @awbikes fuck the jackhammer put a Incriminater audio 21" in there

  • Right...how bout a cone that doesn't rip it's self apart in ten seconds?

  • They should've made a REAL sub bass element in that size powered by a high voltage transformer.

  • @Velodynamic Lol high voltage transformer........ Transformers arent amplifiers. Transformer would had just made a 60hz buzz...... They need a high power AMPLIFIER.

  • ever notice how some myths they try to bust.... they just go about it the completely wrong way??

  • Do you not see the sealant? The car itself is the box, watch the video again nerds. Its all sealed.

  • i like how just about eveyone comenting on this video like myself. knows about car audio. and how they effed up. they really need to do this shit again.

  • could of made the sub alot more durable and put it in a box of some sort

  • mercedes 300SD

  • dude wtf that blew ass tell them to go get some high performance subwoofers put them in crank it and see wat happens

  • i think this is kinda destroying the car.. NOT BUSTEDD

  • AT 16Hz WTF THATS FUCKING AWSOME

  • bigger than the mtx jackhammer

  • theres a dude in germany hitting 181db with one dd audio 18" subwoofer

  • I've personally seen ten 12" Subs (one truck) and eight 18" subs (another truck) blow the windshields out of a Mazda B2200 and a Chevrolet S10 Blazer respectively. That's why professional competition vehicles have brackets that hold the glass in place and most of the time lexan windows.

  • LOL....that's the worst speaker ever

  • They really need to redo this myth . 160db at that low with the sun roof and the car not sealed. Wow pretty crazy.

  • Presure not preside. Stupid iPhone has auto correct and puts in random words.

  • If u guys want to see this done with conventional subs look up meade916. There r 2 rides on his channells. 1 with 4 and the other with 8 18" subs.

  • If the mythwoofer running 160db at 16hz can't blow the windows nothing will. A jackhammer can't even produce spl like that at such low frequencies. The car would have to be totaly sealed but the preside would still find the weakest point and push out. Myth busted.

  • they need the mtx jackhammer then try that shit x.x

  • @gamer4gunz sike the jackhammer is shit. id rather have 2 18s that could out power that shit all day long. costs way less too.

  • @jamclam1 ur an idot u obviously never heard a jackhammer in real life if ur saying there shit i heard 1 at a car comp and there loud as shit so dont say there shit there just over priced

  • @toucandan8989 ok. im sure its very well built and powerful, but its still not practical even if it did cost less.

  • @jamclam1 there still loud for 1 sub i seen it do 160

  • Comment removed

  • I want 4 of those speakers in my mini van! lol

  • LOL!

  • they need to put it in a box (nothing special just seal it up) and put a surround on it. itll make a big difference

  • i like 3d gear

  • The dumbasses didn't make a real woofer. It was mechanically powered instead of magnetically and the hertz were way too low. If it was at a higher frequency I bet it would have been more likely that it would have shattered since the glass couldn't have taken such fast bending and movement. There stupid bullshit sub wasn't legitimate and was obviously not made well since it broke so quickly even if they were purposely maxing it out. Myth not busted at all.

  • @Millepone Ive been into car audio for many years and have experimented all types of designs from sealed to horn loaded and I have to say, I need to see them do this again with a better constructed subwoofer and car. There were too many wrong things done with this myth. It could have been constructed better. I say, DO IT AGAIN! I believe it can be done. I say they should match the cars resonant frequency with the next test. Just for shits and giggles.

  • It decompressed! Seal the holes up weld it up! I 160db I say that is not valid because you have the motor engine sound adding SPL db numbers that dont count!

  • 161 decibels at 16 Hertz is INCREDIBLE. I wish I could talk to them or others who were aroun d to see if they felt it for the short time or if it shook nearby things.

  • they really need to put more effort into this myth test

  • just wondered if they closed every opening on the car and filled the whole car's interior with some speakers, pump it to the max and played a bass test track.

  • Why even bother just play a sine wave at HIGH SPL db find a frequency that will crack the glass!

  • you people are morons, "lets use 2 DD subs!" shut the fuck up, you aparently didnt watch this mythbusters episode.

they just need to build it better.

  • Drop a real sub. That sub sucks ass.

  • There was no music test? The subwoofer on an engine to flap it back and forth has nothing to do with sound waves

  • Thats not even a subwoofer. you can blow a window at about150 db. Its even on youtube

  • to blow a window, its all about air pressure, high pitches crack glass, usually cars break due to spl.

  • But you can break glass with a sine wave oscillating up and down in pitch that would eventually shatter the wine glass into shards of glass!

  • lol.. if they picked a car without a sunroof the windows would have blown out.. they didn't spend nearly enough time on that one.. I've seen 2 12's crack a windshield, and it only produced 141 db.. so they should really do this again..

  • If this mythwoofer was able to survive and make a much higher pitch, like 60 or 70 Hz, I bet they could have easily done some severe damage.

  • why dont they hook like i dunno 50 12" alpine R series woofers to a regular 240v house power with a custom amp.

put it on max with either bass i love you by bassotronics or ULTIMATE BASS TEST on max volume and BOOOOOOOOOOOOM

  • lol the one dd 18" did a 180.5 this things retarted

  • yep they should have had 1 or 2 dd z18s and a better enclosure and let that baby blow to bits lol

  • I think breaking glass is caused more by natural frequencies than sheer force. The sound is intense enough and at the same frequency of the glass = shattered glass.

  • glass shatters at a few khz, most groundpounders windows blow out at 30-40hz

  • Krannyman92 : Glass has a resonance frequency at around 550Hz, 550 would be the spot to go to break glass.

  • sorry i didnt know the exact freq...i was saying that groundpounders break their windshields because the low frequencies cause the glass to flex too much then it cracks

  • wild thing is it actually isnt the sound waves that are breaking the glass, but the sound waves and make the foundation twist, that's how they break, fairly interesting how it works, if Mythbusters would have actually done it the right way I know they could have blown that car to pieces, 60's at 16hz is nice though

  • yea it is. you should expect that high of a number though when the cone takes up like 80% of the car's cabin space hah

  • what exactly are they saying is "busted". that u cant break glass or destroy a car. i have video of the world fnals in indianapolis in october of 08 and 2 guys broke windshields there...wayne...the guy in this vid knows that...he used to run the dbdrag circut. so....destroying a car....busted....breaking glass.....definately possible.....definately been done.

  • If you listen well, they state it is in no way impossible to break glass with sound. They state it is impossible to wreck a car with a sound system, no matter how powerful. Look at the speaker in the car, it's enormous..163 decibels will implode your eardrums if you're close enough.

  • 161.3db @ 16 htz! wow i'm sure no real sub could do that!

  • I will be putting up the Whole Episode

I cut out a few parts

just hope Discovery channel doesn't have a problem

  • @Gazooo29 lmfao they need ported

  • did they revisit this?

  • 161 dB @ 16hz is harder then lets say the word record holder whit 180,8 dB @ 125hz.

  • well a type x is nice but it isn't near as loud as a BTL

  • they should have use real audio equipment. this "subwoofer" is no subwoofer at all. anyone with the slightest bit of knowledge when it comes to speakers would know that.

  • That is not the point, of course it is not, it is not as near as expensive also, but it does the job of creating pressure, even more then car subs do = higher pressure @ lower Hz

  • holy shit that sub was big

  • check out the t3 audio blowing the windshield from their van.. its fuckin crazy.. and this is no spam just check it out...

  • To all the idiots screaming "use a real sub!"

The only thing that matters is pressure levels, and 161 DB is an insane amount of pressure. It's not likely that anyone here has ever sat in car that produced that much pressure. It would probably kill you.

Look, the only way a SPL will blow the doors of a car in reality is if the doors are the weakest link in the car. More often then not air will escape somewhere else first, the sunroof in this case.

  • 161 isn't really a lot considering the world record is roughly 180

  • 161 is a lot. Back in 2001 I sat in the Team Gates Bronco, back when it was setting all the World DB records. That truck had 50, 15" subs, 50 amps, 50 battery's, 50 capacitors and the entire structure was reinforced steel and 3/4" Plexiglas.

All that being said, it was pumping out 171db at the time. I sat in it with the door open and it was still registering mid 150's on the meter. DB levels in the mid 150's are enough to to push the air out of your lungs and make your hair stand up on end.

  • y it is if u look whare that car did put out the Hz.... look at that and then u can talk...

  • what the hell are u talking about

  • If you know how much more it takes to make sound at the pitch they did (16 Hz), then you'll understand how amazing it is. Bosse8808 (sort of).

  • they should use a rotary subwoofer

  • even if they do say busted or not.. 161 dbs at 16 hertz would probably make your ear drums explode!!! holy hell

  • at the end he straight up said that it could blow up a windshield. .just not the car itself....

  • yeah i a big ass van not some little crappy car

  • There are plenty of videos on here of 2 TC Sounds LMS Ultra 18's cracking windshields. Hell I blew the sunroof out of the tracks with a single Adire Audio Tumult MK2 15 with only 1000w in an old Jag.

  • aaarghhh

    you can't bust the myth

you didn't even put the spider on the speaker

  • they should of at least did made another one in a car with no sun roof

  • They didn't put in a spider to keep the cone moving side to side, which destroyed the speaker. If they build it better it could have done way more damage.

  • agree

  • this is non-scientific, many windows have been blown with subwoofers. and in fact, a mercedes is quite a well sealed car and if they had bothered to seal the roof i would have thought the could have at least severely warbled if not shattered the glass.

  • LMAO!

  • If they had lots smaller subwoofers, they might be able to create a design to fit more volume displacement. Steve Meade's sound system shakes windows 50 feet away with his doors open. He only uses 8 18" subwoofers. I'm sure the Mythbusters can create a design to fit probably over 20 18's, and that would without a doubt at least blow the windows off. If they make it air tight, and play it at a higher frequency, they might be able to achieve enough to shake the car apart.

  • Meade has 4 woofers. Chicken has 8.

  • mercedes-benz s klasse is indestructable.

  • i love this show

  • They should try a few Cerwin vega 18" strokers in it.. ;D

  • wot about if they airlocked it then tryed again it would smash the windows or maybe do something else..?

  • that would work. im totally serious too that would seriously work.
