  • So you test the porsche in dry weather (tops down)... Then you test the corvette in the rain and proceed to bitch about the handling... ERRRR

  • RUF? hmmm... Gran Turismo anyone?

  • Top Gear, plain awesome casual racism.

  • "about eleventy million horsepower" LMAO

  • this guy is a joke.. no matter what he drives he always likes foreign over american. Every single drive he does on any car, the American car always sucks.

  • a modified C4 hit two hundred and fifty four miles an hour. in 1988.

  • @jasoncown Yeah the Callaway Sledgehammer Twin Turbo... That car is engineering masterpiece, Especially for the time

  • I've owned both a 99 carrera c2, a 04 c5 z06, and currently a '11 vette c6 base. The '99 carrera was a joy to drive, and had WAY better road feel, crisp steering, shifter feel, brake feel, etc. It was quite confidence inspiring even with its rear engine. The vettes have limits MUCH higher than the 911 in all categories, but is much scarier to drive since you feel like you're floating on the road, whereas in the 911 you feel welded to the road. The porsche was also a pita to maintain.

  • both cars suck

  • So my friend joined the marines, buys a '96 Porsche with sign on money and so on, I own a '94 Vette. We race, I win.. Swap cars he wins in my car, so I win again. Trade back, he says "well my interior is quieter, but that's it, I hate u" that and his little 2.5 isn't quite enough to really pull ahead in the corners.. I'll stick with my Vette, thank you.

  • Well.....its RAINING too!!!!

  • i think these cars are great. the callaway is much like a lambo of this time.. its the way it makes you feel, respectivly. basically taking your life into your hands everytime you drive it. and the RUF is awesome cause lets face it, who dosent like a tuned porche. i love it.

  • Clarkson about 18-20 years ago. From the pages of history.

  • I love both cars, but in my opinion, that guy is a freaking moron!

  • Comment removed

  • Holy shit he is young

  • ho ho ho ho! WHAT A CAH! lol

  • the callaway just looks pure ugly

  • Back when the C4 Corvette was new, it was one of the best handling sports cars on the road. They dominated the Porsche 928 in SCCA racing, and was Motor Trend's 1984 Car of the year. Anyone who says the C4 Corvette can't handle, has never drove one. Mr. Clarkson purposely made the Corvette preform poorly in this comparison. He ain't fooling me.

  • @nathangreen666 He always makes the corvette look bad because he knows his fellow brits will believe everything he says or does.

  • @nathangreen666 928 is a tourer mate. 911's the handler. Motor trend have their biggest market in the US. Why would they choose a car that wasn't the new best car out of the US? No one would have bought it lol. Find a non-American magazine that gave this car any praise.

  • @944CoyoteV8 The 928 was in direct competition with the Corvette (Front engine, V8 RWD). The 1984 Corvette was a vastly improved car over the previous generation C3, which is likely the reason for Motor Trend's Car of the Year award. Car&Driver reported a .90 lateral g out of the 1984 Corvette, which bested the Porsche 928, and the Ferrari 308. If the C4 "couldn't handle", it would have never been able to compete, and win races on a road course. The C4 deserves credit for its accomplishments.

  • @nathangreen666 Disagree. 928 was a cruiser that handled only because it was engineered by Porsche. It was soft and predominantly 3spd until the later S4. I know this, I had one.

70% Of what a skid pad shows is how good the factory tyres are, not how fast a car changes direction. A slalom does that. Americans use a skid pad because generally (no offence intended) their cars are not engineered well enough for the changing direction thing, and will look better against the others.

  • @944CoyoteV8 FYI, Porsche once considered the 928 as potential 911 replacement. And I really don't understand your argument at this point. Are you saying that no matter what the Corvette has accomplished, it sucks because its American? The fact is, the C4 Corvette won races, and it takes more then a good set of tires to win a race. Porsche backed the 928/944 turbo in SCCA racing. Why stand behind a car that was never meant to be on a race course?

  • @nathangreen666 You're thinking of the 914 that Porsche once considered it to be potential 911 replacement because it used same everything except body of the 911.

  • @nathangreen666 Just because a stock car pulls high lateral forces, it doesn't mean it has better potential to do more with different tires. For instance, Toyota Supras once had highest lateral force for stock car, at .98 (this was during C4 era, mind you). However, once modified, suspension and tires in mind, it doesn't even see anything above 1.10G. Even race prepped Supras don't ever see 1.15G and above while other cars that started out much lower can achieve 2.0G.

    C4 really can't handle.

  • @nathangreen666 Most definitely was not dominating in SCCA Solo II, maybe Solo I as the former requires great handling while the latter requires power and less handling - almost like nascar.

  • @nathangreen666 you do know the difference between a race car and a production car which are being compare in the video right?

  • @nathangreen666 I owned one and it can't handle. It can be made/built to handle but that's a different story!

  • @Lukeentertainment The Skid-Pad test results I posted are trivial. A real test of a cars capabilities is on the race track. The C4 competed in the SCCA Escort Endurance Championship series, a showroom stock class, which means besides safety equipment, the C4 race car was a production Corvette. And no matter what BS reason you can come up with, discrediting 19 for 19 wins is foolish. The C4 proved itself on the race track. Funny, the Porsche 928 lost all those races to a car that "can't handle".

  • I love it when the English judge cars that are superior to anything that comes out of England.

  • Jeremy really irritates me. Such a pretentious prick.

  • The C4 is ugly as hell...

  • @twztd28

    so is that porsche

  • @Dominator5515 I have nothing against Vette's. I'm not Pro-Porsche. I actually like Vette's and Porsche equally. 08' Z owner. ;)

  • when clarkson had hair.

  • If they weren't so rare I'd get a 1993 Porsche 911 Turbo

  • thats not callaway

  • He is such a nob; watch him from inside the car and all the background shots are travelling at 15 mph.. say no more

Tiff Niddell is soooo much better and a real driver if you must pick a cirquit driver.

  • He is such a nob; watch him from inside the car and all the background shots are travelling at 15 mph.. say no more

  • i have an 85 corvette and it handles great when its dry out but if its wet or even a bit cold it will slide and spin its tires all day you have to be very careful with the c4

  • the record top speed for a 88 callaway corvette is 410 kp/h and hes saying its crappy.....kiss my ass the 88 lambo couldnt even hit 300 it topped out at 230 kp/h

  • eleventy million horsepower

  • I wish I could get a 599 Italia and do what he did to that classic 911. You are a bastard, Jeremy Clarkson.

  • @azn069

Hey, there isn't a 599 Italia. Clarkson has his idiosyncracies, but you need to get your facts straight!

  • @azn069

There isn't a 599 Italia, mate! Get your facts right

  • @shamikbose89 Apologies, my mistake. I meant 458 Italia, I know Jeremy loves that car. For some reason I thought of the 599 GTO, which is an amazing car

  • He forgot to mention the Calloway b2k when he was touting the 211 mph top speed of the Ruf.. B2k did 250+ and that was unbeaten well through the 2000's I believe.

  • @bighunt08 That's still impressive, but it was a one off car that while being road legal, wasn't anywhere near a production/publicly available car. The callaway B2K kit wasn't the same as the sledgehammer; there was only 1 of those.

However the ruf packages/kits actually hit that 211mph. Ruf sits somewhere between production car and a tuner series. Technically it's a tuned production car. The sledgehammer is more like the AP supra. Not as impressive *as* a car you could actually buy.

  • Huh, that does change my mind about Callaway 'vettes. Guess I'll put my money on Lingenfelter.

  • I love top gear but i love corvettes better seeing him shoot that corvette made me sad :(

  • jeremy can suck a bag of dicks. he only likes them shitty plastic veyrons and Lamborghinis.

  • @kbuss10

Do you know what a joke is? Or what it means to ACTUALLY love cars like he does? (apparently not)

Sure his opinions are odd but nobody ever told you to listen to all of them

  • air cooled engine in the wrong place :-O ???? WTF?? whats this idiot is mumbling about, did he drink too much

  • @kbuss10 Im a huge Porsche fan but according to physics it is in the wrong place..

  • @mehrzweckreiniger And that's why they've chosen to castrate the boxter/ cayman.. To keep them from being faster than their "iconic" 911...

  • 11ty million

  • 52k miles and still feels like new? well if you build a piece of crap to start with I suppose it would.

  • zr1 had a aluminium block and race suspension test this one

  • @matatacutata i laf at your engrish

  • What video is this from?

  • I'm not a big fan of Porsche but you got to respect their engines. They can turn a boring 6 cylinder engine into a lean, mean, power inducing machine.

  • porch sucksass

  • @subarunation100 If you're going to give an opinion of a vehicle you can't afford. At least spell it correctly.

  • only 11 million more hp

  • what video is this from?

  • It always pisses me off with what Jeremy does to classic porsches. just one day, if I ever had enough money, i'd love to buy an original Mclaren F1, or Aston Martin One-77, strap a ton of C-4 to it, and watch him panic.

  • @team99999 Clarkson doesn't really like the F1, so he probably wouldn't mind seeing that blow up.

  • @team99999 ......That was not a "classic" porsche, that was a replica 911.... He mentioned it himself in show. and blog, im surprised you didnt know...

  • @team99999 i don't think he will care he hate both but if like to see him panic do it to a ford GT40

  • @team99999 fuck yeah

  • @team99999

Clarkson doesn't really like the Mclaren F1 that much. He does, however, like the Ferrari F40 very very much.

  • @sandstrom1994 In Forza4 he whines about how ugly it is =S

  • @team99999 Touch my McLaren F1 AND DIE!!

  • Comment removed

  • Do it to a Reventon and demand a Ransom for it.

  • @team99999

    He doesn't like the Mclaren F1 either......make it a Ferrari F40

  • @team99999 he hates the mclaren f1 too, lol

  • @team99999 cant believe this bloated homosexual asexual gay fag so called "englishman" tells whats good and whats not, and a lot of other idiots actually like him, or listen to him!!!!!!!! who give a fukk that he dislikes these cars??? both are wonderful cars, old or new. watch tiff needell instead, hes at least a racing driver and a pro!! unlike this curly gay bigmouth. how coud he become an automotive star journalist is beyond me...

  • @kbuss10 -Easy,he became a journalist in a has-been place called Eng-Land where they never were capable of making anything that actually works ,they tried unsucessfully make cars, and then went bankrupt, now idiots like Jeremy wastes his life dissing Germany and America, but nobody pays attention.

  • @peter455sd What are you crazy. Almost every Indy car that was at Indy this year was built in England. Almost all F1 cars are built in England. WOW I am completely blown away that anyone would make such an ignorant statement. England is in the forefront of composites automotive and aerospace. You have never heard of LOLA or LOTUS the list goes on they have had some flop street cars but what country has not?

  • @team99999 well u better strap that c4 to this disgusting curly fatbucket :D

  • @team99999 you wouldnt do that to a Veyron would you?

  • @team99999

I'd rather strap him with some C4 and watch him blow up rather than the F1.

  • @team99999 I see what you mean. But with Jeremy you need to read between the lines and never take him seriously. Mind you he is show man and will anything to make a joke of of anything.

  • @team99999 HES JUST GIVING HIS OPINION, YOU DONT HAVE TO LISTEN TO IT

  • what's the difference between porche and RUF

  • @jeff4ever1000 RUF is a porsche 911 with some modifications and added power

  • @jeff4ever1000 RUF is a Porsche performance company. It's like Ford's SVT but a lot more German....

  • @EliteLX not correct mate, a RUF is a RUF and not a Porsche. RUF have a "manufacturer-status" and is not simply a tuner.

Porsche send all parts to RUF and this company build the whole car incl all modifications.

It's like Wiesmann, this company use BMW parts, but its a own carbuilder.

  • @druide106 Thanks for clearing that up for me -)

  • Both car suspensions are very springy, soft!

  • 5.7L V8 at the front, rear wheel drive, crappy suspension, worst weight distribution in the world and he's driving it on dripping wet track. WHAT did U expect?

  • @soberek I expect the engineers from GM to account for that.....and not try to correct it with pick up truck parts. Look it up! They actually used pick up truck parts on the vettes!

It's called engineering. You have a problem, then you figure it out, not put a band aid on it :-)

  • @911SBC LOL Pickup truck parts? The fundamental design of the engine was lifted from contemporary GM pickup trucks but so what?

As far as I’m concerned so long as it sounds good, runs hard and is an overall thrill to drive then the engine could be lifted from an obsolete Soviet era bulge pump for all I care. :-)

  • @soberek actually the weight distribution is pretty good. but thats the only good bit lol

  • @soberek If you delete "5.7L V8 at the front", and replace it with "3.4L engine behind the rear axle", you're talking about the RUF. Did you typo by accident?

  • @waldowin Hmmmmmmmm... I don't think U'd find prehistoric leaf spring suspension or a frame chassis straight from a Willys Jeep on a RUF 911...

  • @soberek

are you making that judgement because of jeremy or do they have c4 corvettes in polands ?

  • @RIEKSONE Are you not making that comment because being a yank U think that my comment does not deserve so many thumbs up? And it's "Poland" U ignorant, uneducated asswipe.

  • @soberek crappy suspension? Ferrari looked at the suspension on the corvette and they were taking notes because it has one of the most brilliant suspension systems in the world.

  • @flacjacket Just look how snappy and hard it is to handle... They might have had smart theories but they sure didnt make the best of them on the C4 vette. C6 on the other hand handles quite well, especially the Z06 and ZR1 are brilliant.

  • @TheRighteous123 The C4 is an excellent cornering car especially on a track. In it's day it got nothing but praise from the real motoring press. As a matter of fact in 1994 when the first C4 was released it was ranked the best cornering car in the world however because of too many complaints about its harsh ride, in 95 the spring rates were increased and it tied with Porsche for road holding. He's just driving it like a retard. In reality C4s corner like they're on rails.

  • @bronxboyXXX He did that with the new ZR1 in their comparison with the V10 R8. You could see him flick the wheels to the right, then hard left. If you're on the gas you're only going to get one result from that. He knew that car was going to kick out.

  • @bronxboyXXX First of all, the C4 was released in 1984, it rattled like a truck and handled like a mad man, I owned one so I would know. They can be modified to be fantastic, but the factory car is terrible. Take a 70's RX7 for a test drive and you'll see what good old handling is supposed to be like!

  • @Lukeentertainment you're correct I did mean to say 84 but I happen to own a 95 6 speed (see my page) & have driven various models of C4 from the 84 up to 96 & while some did rattle more than others the rattles were not that bad & by 95 they were gone. Not knowing how to drive a corvette is the number one reason people complain about the cars. Corvettes do not handle like other cars & have a lot of torque but if you learn to drive them properly they kick ass.

  • @Lukeentertainment I've owned 2 C4 Corvettes. They weren't without their flaws; both cars had a bit of a harsh ride, but handling was always top notch. Oh, I've also been behind the wheel of a RX-7, multiple times...handling was fantastic. But the RX-7 only weighed 2,300-2,400 lbs. The C4 Corvette on the other hand weighed 3,200-3,300 lbs. Really hard to compare two cars not in the same class, but if you want to, the rotary engine has always been underwhelming.

  • @TheRighteous123 Yeah I think that other guys comments were mostly related to the C6. The C4 is horrible

  • welll.... the year ruf started making the car was 1983... but that looks like a 1987... my uncle has a slant nose version. thing is crazy fast.

  • what year was this from?

  • @Teder95 He said this car is 11 years old and that it came out in 1990, so i'm assuming the video is 2001.

  • Was it raining on the vettes test ?Looked like water running on the side glass.

  • what year is this? pls

  • @glavonjagrob Well H-Reg cars were made in 1990-1991. Jeremy says at 2:23 that it's an 11 year old car, so a guess would say it's about 2001-2002 :)

  • @MiniOneSam tnx ....I want to watch all those older episodes but I don't know how to get them in Serbia

  • @glavonjagrob try finalgear(.)com. thats were i get all the episodes

  • @MrKoenigseggccx Thank You! I will try it!

  • I do chuckle when reading all these arguments and seeing someone write "your grammar and punctuation are (should be 'is') bad. You know the person writing this remark, knows they have lost their argument and doesn't know what else to write.

  • 211 MPH O.O really?? well thats something...

  • back fire RUF! :D

  • It's not the "ruff", it's pronounced "roof" or "ruuuuooohf" in German.

  • @HandigeHarry010 You're correct! But to Clarkson's credit, he is speaking the word in English, so he's phonetically pronouncing it correctly. But to his discredit, seeing how he's quite the snob and would surely pronounce a French word or term properly via it's native origins/tongue, he should have pronounced "Ruff" accordingly as well, which he did not.

  • The Sledgehammer was not a production car though, not 500 made.

  • I love the early 90's 911's. There's something about a car that's trying to kill you every time you push it....that's the way I want to go out.

  • he claims the Porsche RUF to be incredibly quick but all along he seems to b doing less than 60Km/h.

  • my name is callaway :)

  • i'd bet my life you don't even know where Oxford University is... you replied,,, "i WAS from Oxford"? what kind of improper English tense are trying to impress upon us? Did you intend to say " i am from Oxford" or are you trying to say "i went to Oxford" or "i graduated from Oxford"? Please tiny Grasshopper, find another YouTube video to comment on,,,, something more related to your level of unprofessionalism......

  • shit video, seems like clarkson use to be a shit driver

  • vette looks like crap but callaway makes great stuff

  • What show is this from?

  • Let's not forget that in 1990 callaway also built the b2k that did 250mph back then!.. What does the $1million bugatti do these days? 260? Also the Supernatural (SNAT) corvette isn't exactly slow either!

  • nitromenoob,,, i can see your vocabulary and class reflect your origin.. you can take the person out of the trailer park but not the trailer park out of the person...

  • LOL, eleventy million bhp.

  • and yes i do love corvettes i've owned them..

  • i like top gear and old top gear too so id recomend that you dont make bad comments about him or the video personly id go for the porsche or as they call it the ruff ive never been a big fan of american cars.

  • i like top gear and old top gear too so id recomend that you dont make bad comments about him or the video personly id go for the porsche or as they call it the ruff ive never been a big fan of american cars.

  • I love that he hates Porsches. Especially since Porsche fans always have such a stick up their asses about them.

  • no matter what each car does performance wise,,, the porsche a far better designed machine... this is not an issue that can be disputed... you can have your preferences about style and facts about performance but in pure fit and finish and design quality there is no comparison and if you think otherwise please get an education in engineering from a reputable engineering institute and then please state your comment...

    cheers!

  • @thequintsband no fuck you porsche suck my balls

  • @nitromenoob,,, i can see your vocabulary and class reflect your origin.. you seem so articulate and must have studied for many years to have obtained such intuitive dialogue.. let me guess Harvard, Yale or possibly even Princeton! what am i saying?!?! sounds to me like trailer park kinder community college...... you can take the person out of the trailer park but not the trailer park out of the person... take your negativity else where.. i'm sure no one is impressed...

  • @thequintsband i was from oxford

  • love this guy but he exaggerates immensely about how each car reacts and performs... ridiculously exaggerates!! "feels like a Volkswagen beetle", "you could read a book between shifts from turbo lag"..

  • @thequintsband The exaggerations are a part of the entertainment, everybody knows it can't be that long to shift.

  • fucking hilarity

  • ugly corvette

  • Jeremy Clarkson "elevenity-million horsepowers"

he is clearly a physicist :P

  • bad audio is bad.

  • i love american cars, the thing is, they're still after all these years way behind euro and Jap in sophistication ranks.

What they do have over euro and jap is vulgarity, which has huge street appeal, hence me owning one... guess it depends on ones personality ))

  • CRIKEY MOSES!

  • i hate to say it but i really like both cars, yes, i said it, i like the corvette too

  • RUf porsche! the corvette looks like a toycar,so plasticky and cheap...whereas the porsche wants to be taken seriously!hail 911

  • @gaj3n yeah looks pretty good for a beetle

  • Of course, any real man would take a RUF Porsche over a junky corabeth. "Drop a hand full of peanuts under the bonnet of a corabeth?" That would be a waste of good peanuts!

  • OMG.......you stupid wanker.....it is a "ROOF"!! It is not pronounced like it is spelled. Kinda like "Por-sha"........not "porsh."

And until the supersport came out, the sledgehammer was the fastest, way before the ssc or the bugatti were even thought about.

  • A family friend owns the only RUF CTR in North America...and I've had a passenger ride in it: just INCREDIBLE. So much ferocity in such a small car makes me sex wee.

  • Come on. The Corvette is a plastic peice of shit. Get over it folks, Chevrolets are NOT the best thing since sliced bread. Stop bowing down to the Bow tie. Just because its a Chevy doesnt make it great. There is much better out there.

  • @Statimtek

Because it's a Chevy? No. Because it's a Callaway? Yes.

  • It look to me like he drove the Vette in the rain?

  • Ruf, nuff said...

And that other plasticy thing can go to the scrapper for all I care... xD

  • @jacobmagnant52262 You're very close. What you should have said is, "We all think we know who would win..." and, of course, never mind repeated and well-documented thrashings of corvettes over 911s on any number of tracks, you naturally go on to show that you know absolutely nothing.

  • when was this aired?

  • he really could have drifted that 1st vette turn and made it a little better. But muscle is all about 0-60 and straight lines.

  • it really could have drifted out that 1st vette turn a little better

  • have jeremy drive the sledgehammer!

  • i hate his taste HAHA that vette would smoke that piece of shit in a race, that guy dossent like american cars just becouse they had bad cars for like 50 to 60 years ago... butt the vette has become a badass on the race track and on the street AND YOU ALL KNOW IT!!!

  • 11ty million? haha nice love the old Porch...oops sorry RUFs lol

  • guy need2 2 learn how 2 handle a vette

  • @ Everyone. Stop bashing Jeremy Clarkson. He has tested and driven more cars than you ever have and he does have a valid OPINION on cars. It is his opinion, not yours. This is not a sign of ignorance.

  • @ShepperdW I don't think so I drive cars to car sales I drive 10x the cars he dose he only likes car from companies that pay him

  • @ShepperdW Good call. People just need to chill out and appreciate some awesome cars!

  • @ShepperdW i agree...

  • @ShepperdW that is so true well said

  • @ShepperdW no, he's retarded. entertaining, but a nob.

  • @ShepperdW true but clarkson can;t drive for shit jack shit evenn a cripple 89yr old racer can drive better than this bloke but he is a dam gd car journalist
